Itto is not a character in the book, and I don't think him and Musashi ever met in real life.
But Muso really seemed too weak compared to Kojiro to look like a man who could defeat Musashi without injuring him seriously. I'd say Itto fits that aspect better, even though we're not sure yet whether they'll fight.

The old man on the bridge telling stories is Matahachi in the future, right ?

I didn't get that part either. The young boy listening to the story kinda looks like Musashi.

And Gonnosuke might have trained with Ito and became good enough to be a challenge for Musashi.

thats the conclusion i arrived to as well. it was a WTF moment for me. It felt like the series is coming to an end. But if that is NOT matahachi then the series wont end anytime soon.

We have yet to see the final battle between sasaki and miyamoto. Im sure Musashi will meet yagyu in the future.

At least in the Real Musashi's History, not only the Novel, but the one told by Shinto Muso Ryu Jojutsu's Masters like Kaminoda Tsunemori Sensei, Gonnosuke fought Musashi Twice, lost the First Duel and Won the Second.

And I liked the way Takehiko Inoue worked out his version of Matahachi.

But unless he cuts half the novel appart, there's still Iori arc, the Two Fights with Gonosuke, and the Friendship with Yagyu Grandson, to develop Musashis's history, this, if he don't work out side stories, like Joutaro becoming a thief, or Iori or Joutaro being Otsu's brother (don't remember whitch on right now).

It's Iori who's Otsu's brother.
Still I doubt Edo's part will be as developped as in the novel. I can't see Otsu becoming friend with Yagyu's son, nor Matahachi kidnapping her and having her almost as his wife/slave.
The "Musashi in jail" part has also been treated (it's normally when him and Gonnosuke kill Oko, Gion Toji and Shishido Baiken), and it sometimes seem as Iori and Jotaro have been melt into one single character.

I'm afraid the plot will be relatively short from now (just guessing though) : a non lethal fight between Musashi and Itto, some thinking about it by Musashi, Kojiro proving to be a worthy weapon master, his fame raising, Musashi being refused as a weapon master here and there, a couple of random fights, then the finale part with everything leading to the final fight.

There's one character left : I forgot the name but he's the strategy master injured by Kojiro and saved by Musashi's arrival. Then his pupil try to murder a drunk Kojiro but a lot of them get killed. Still I can hardly see that part happening in Vagabond, as Kojiro isn't mean here...

I'm currently marathoning Vagabond and I've got to say it's a great manga. And it's a nice change of pace to long and flashy battles that you get in most other mangas. I enjoy mangas that use history extensively and well so I'm loving Vagabond.

I'm currently at chapter 140 in the really long flashback on Kojiro which is pretty good. But I'm not going to deny that I really to see what Mushashi is doing right now.

Sorry if this has been answered somewhere else, but I'm wondering why is Vagabond coming out so often? In June there were 4 chapters, so it's coming out... weekly? Have we died and gone to Vagabond heaven?

Vagabond has always been a weekly series, if i remember correctly, appearing in Morning magazine, but the last few months, there were a lot of breaks and breaks. But now that it's back regularly, isn't that good news?

I can't remember the last time Inoue was this productive. He's only taken two months off so far this year.

It had been a while since I was waiting so anxiously for a release. I've been refresing the release page 10 times a day all week. Then #276 came and got scanlated. I sure wasn't disapointed. Thanks to all who worked on it.

Now I have to hibernate until #277 is out. haha. This is getting pretty excitting.

Ahh..the flashback. Seeing how much Mushishi has changed over the years. He used to be such animal back then but now he's become kind of reflective of his past actions. Do you think there'll be a twist to the story and he'll put away the sword for good?

At some point he'll abandon the sword for the brush. He'll spend his time painting water colors and writing his book. That may be after the series ends.

awesome! Ittosai is going with Musashi to Yagyu castle. Well at least now Musashi has a bodyguard if more than 1 enemy ambush him. Cause lets face it, he is a cripple.
