Re: Vagabond 246 & 247 Discussion Thread

Inoue would not end the series on this note. He can't. He has built up the rivalry between Musashi and Kojiro too much to end it without them fighting. We may switch to Kojiro, but there's also the possibility that we'll stay on Musashi for a while and have a small sort of drama play out between him, Matahachi, and Otsu.

Re: Vagabond 246 & 247 Discussion Thread

i doubt that it'll end like that... we still have hyogo... we havent seen them do battle yet..... and theres still a lot of things that needs to be settled... and musashi hasnt discovered Hyōhō Niten Ichi-ryū yet and i think that he will have a buddhist name.... of course this may just be a fictional account about musashi, still we want inoue to put those things in this series...

Re: Vagabond 246 & 247 Discussion Thread

I don't think Hyogo and Musashi are meant to fight. In the novel we cross paths with Hyogo's father quite a lot of times, but there are no more battles with the Yagyu style of fighting than what we've already seen in the book.
What I'm expecting to see, battles-wise : Musashi vs Gonnosuke Muso. I tend to say this will happen soon, and Musashi's leg wound will be used as sort of an excuse to justify he'll lose to Gonnosuke (with no harm for his health).
Then there's a fight against a bunch of outlaws that we may see, that's where I expect the two swords style of fighting to be really introduced.
That's about all that's left with Musashi, except for the final battle.
It should mostly be about Kojiro now.

All this is true if Inoue follows the book, which is doubtful.

It's not like Musashi is undefeated anyway. He lost to Inshun the first time around, and "tied" the second time.

I expect Musashi to lose to Muso.

Re: Vagabond 248 Discussion Thread

I'm curious to see what Matahachi does now with his life. He knows that he's made several mistakes, and realizing that will probably help him to grow into a better person.

But now Otsu is left wondering if she should follow Musashi or let him lead his life with living by sword. I think that Musashi will recover, but slowly. This will give him and Otsu the time to bond before he ventures out to more adventures. Now from reading the actual historic events of Musashi, he still has many more opponents to face. But I have to keep in mind that this is being told on a 'fictional' level, so the Inoue can embellish the facts around a little to better suit the storyline.

But overall it was well drawn, fullfilling chapter. Can't wait for more!

That was his only defeat IRL. Also the only one in the novel, as far as I can remind it.

They first meet some time after the battle against the many Yoshiokas, when the plot leaves Kyoto for Edo (Tokyo).
There Musashi finds himself facing a peasant near a farm, the peasant atttacks him with a staff. Musashi manages to dodge the blows but doesn't manage to draw any of his swords. Eventually he manages to catch the staff with his bare hands, and beats Gon' up.
There Musashi stays at the Musos for a while, and we learn Gon is from samurai family, and used to live with the hope to found his own school (not sure whether it was a sword or staff/spear school).
Then they meet a second time further on the road to Edo. Gonnosuke says he wants another duel with Musashi, the later agrees. Gon uses a shortened staff (a jo) whereas Musashi uses his two swords. While Musashi thought he had easily blocked Gon's blow, due to its shorted size, Gon's staff still hits Musashi (not sure whether it was in the forehead or in the chest). Musashi recognises his defeat and they become good friends.

Then all throughout the story Gon becomes Musashi's first pupil, though they must be about the same age.

I think Gon is the one killing Gion Toji in the novel.

I don't think they ever meet in the novel. They're not friends or anything.

Re: Vagabond 248 Discussion Thread

I think some chapters of Kojiro going around doing things will follow now. And it will skip the whole recovery time of musashi. Like it will be a few volumes of Musashi, then Kojiro, etc.

Post them if you got them.

It's been a while since the last raw came up.

Re: Vagabond 248 Discussion Thread

They're out but no RAWs have surfaced. At least none that I can find anyway. I've been waiting for them for sometime but no one has uploaded them anywhere. Looks like we're going to be in for the long haul waiting for the next chapters. And if all else fails, Viz is keeping up with the series nicely, so you could always buy them in a number of months. I think they're generally a couple of months or so after the official volume release.
