That doesn't sound like it at all. It sounds like it was an executive decision, or at least a decision made by someone other than Mashima and Ueda. But who would possibly make that kind of call besides Mashima himself?

His editor. His editor (or possibly editors) at the weekly shonen magazine actually have a lot of power. They decide what can or cannot go in the magazine, and they can reject a name from a chapter if they don't like the contents. That's why sometimes Mashima had to make revisions.

It would seem like the original idea for the sequel was for it to be an original story that Ueda thought up himself. Hiro Mashima's editor eventually convinced Mashima to work on the project. The fact that they got him to draw the names of every chapter meant that Hiro actually has to draw the chapters himself. I see a lot of complaints about how the series is biweekly, but honestly it's pretty amazing that the sequel isn't monthly. The quality of work in Mashima's rough copy name is often comparable to the work of other artists' finalized inked manuscripts.

It would seem so. I'm actually pretty happy it turned out like this. If Ueda had to do all the work, then the art would likely differ a lot from Mashima's style. The price we pay for art so faithful to Mashima's art is the biweekly chapters.

What is amazing is that they have presided mashima to finish FT, but it would be they who will have decided to do this continuation.

Nevertheless mashima had talked about a lot of project related to FT and that the adventure was not finished.

So I think that mashima is still a little bit at the origin of that.
