Well, he won the newcomer award for Monthly Shonen Jump on 1986, but I'm not sure whether person's mangaka career begin from either winning an award or serialized their work first time in a magazine (I'm not sure when was Asada's first serialization).

Probably beased on professional debut, the first time the artist was paid for their manga. Shueisha may consider the cash prize from the award his professional debut. The one shot he submitted was likely published, counting as his professional debut. First serialization would only matter if the mangaka had never had no prior one shots. Oda's career would begin with the one shot Wanted!, rather than One Piece, his first and only serialization.

From what I've seen, it goes by first time published. From what Hiro Mashima says in his one shot collections, it sounds like his one shot Magician which won him the runner up for the newcomer awards was the first time he got paid for his manga. However his one shot Bad Boy's Song ended up getting printed first, and that's what pretty much everything I've seen lists as his debut.
