Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

compared to the previous volume, it sold more in 3 weeks .
The previous volume had the Tsunami factor, so i don't take it into consideration.

When i editted my post, i erased the 2010 part of it by mistake and didn't notice. :eyeroll
I was comparing with the 2010 data to avoid the tsunami factor.

First and second week from 2010 volumes:
reborn 32
- 180.760
- 121.456

reborn 31
- 305.145
- 72.346

reborn 30
- 330.180
- 105.108

reborn 29
- 269.353
- 160.614

reborn 28
- 309.558
- 111.140

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Yay for Kekkaishi! :amuse Even if Negima would have taken the top spot if it hadn't been split into 2 versions :p

Looks like Naruto will be taking another week to hit a million.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

the sales for naruto and one piece has dropped
In which strange and mysterious world One Piece sales has dropped? I mean, in this chart the volume 62 has only 20 days of actually sales, and it sells anyway more than 100k copies.

Before jumping to conclusion , I would say check the number of days and release month.
Also if you want to find out if the sales decreased, then compare the volumes released at similar time. It is a common thing that most of the volumes released near end of April/early May sales go down a bit.

Anyways, to see how sales dropped, example, KTR-28 sold 462,989 in 18 days while KTR-33 sold 347,657 in 17 days. Both are March release.

Similarly you can compare 26 and 31 , or you may compare 27 and 32 for nearly same days.

In which strange and mysterious world One Piece sales has dropped? I mean, in this chart the volume 62 has only 20 days of actually sales, and it sells anyway more than 100k copies.
What the poster said is true when compared to previous one that sold 2,724,241 in 18 days while 62 has sold 2,698,663 in 21 days.
OP-62
│*,579,127(0)│2,367,582│2,595,303│2,698,663│

OP-61
│2,086,080 (3)│2,571,703│2,724,241│2,819,362│

Such drop isn't significant. Also when volume 61 came out there was the OP-200 million sales advertisement going on in various media which helped.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Amazing to think that both Gintama and Bakuman beat out Bleach in that category. Nice to see Toriko in the top 10, also.
I think it means "up to volume #12" or forgot to remove the volume number, because the series isn't called "Toriko #12".

It's really incredible how fast Shingeki no Kyojin got popular. It really wasn't that big until volume 3 came out then it exploded and all three volumes were in the Oricon for a while. I've been reading it since I get Bessatsu Shounen Magazine to get Doubtsu no Kuni. It'll be interesting to see where it goes from here. They're slowing down the action now and it's had more about training and flashbacks and trials and stuff, but it's still good. It beat out Fairy Tale, making it Kodansha's #1 manga.

And yeah, One Piece is distantly #1. It's sold more books than any manga in history. But to be fair, #2 which is Dragonball, had a lot fewer volumes. I remember seeing some stats about that a while back when OP surpassed it.

Gantz obviously sold a ton because its movie and stuff came out.

I agree. This shows that Bleach is falling and that is exactly why they are pushing Toriko to be apart of Jump's "big 3". Its is young, along with Bakuman and they are doing quite well and are obviously the future for Jump.
Also I love Gintama and I'm glad its doing well.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Analizing the sellings by volume in the period, i don't see it the same way. I see that Gintana and Bakuman were able to get more people to buy the old volumes, but the current sellings of each volume are still below Bleach.
Bleach had 2 volumes in the period and none of Bakuman and Gintana volumes were able to surpass even the bad selling volume (Bleach # 49 sold 646,700, Bleach 48# sold 822,941).

I am happy with D.Gray-man reaching 526,455 copies. The first 2 weeks were below the previous volumes, but the total sales was still above 500k. :) The impression of people not liking Kanda arc dissipated.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Awesome, the huge gap between One Piece and everything else is really amazing. Pretty surprising to see Gantz that high, I think the live-action movies must have boosted it, especially with the "A-list" actors acting in it. Yay for Shingeki selling so well! :nuts Bleach has truly lost its position as one of the top 3 in Jump, having been beat by even Bakuman and Gintama. Hurrah for Toriko as well, by the end of the year I expect it to overtake Bleach :D

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

It would be awesome if bleach would be overtaken by Bakuman, but thats not gonna happen:
9 Bleach #48 822,941
17 Bakuman. #11 586,726

And i dont see Bakuman as a never ending story, maybe 20 Volumes(and even that would be too much imo).
Lets wait for the next Bankai and Bleach will sales will rise again.

come come paradise

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Not sure how reliable 6-month rankings are; not all series have released the same number of volumes depending of their release schedule... We can be sure that when the full-year ranking will be out, Bleach will be back on top. But it's good to see Toriko and Bakuman are doing well. I'm disappointed at KHR being out of the top 10 though :/ I don't read Gantz but I guess the live-action is having its effects.

But wow, 8 Shueisha series, 2 Kodansha and 0 others, talk about variety xP Same for genre; 8 shonen, 1 shojo and 1 seinen...

i really don't get it... how many volumes were released in that period ? one piece sells a little less than 3 million copies per each volume and for it to sell 23,366,030 that mean there have to be about 7 or 8 volumes released... i just don't understand... i've looked all over this thread and only found 3 volumes

that was the first one... and if there were only 3 volumes there is no way in hell each volume soled more than 7 million copies...

i'm very very glad that both gintama and bleach are over toriko ( as they should ) , gintama is great and if bleach leaves it's place as one of the big 3 gintama is the manga that should take it

The 23,366,030 copies sold is the total for every volume that sold within the time period(Dec-May). Not just the new volumes released within the time period. If you look at the sales by volume list HERE, you will see that One Piece has 10 volumes in the top 50.

yes i know,, but as you can see that number is the total sales of the volume not just this week... so from that link if volume 61 soled 3,133,092 and colume 62 soled 2,698,663 how can their sum be 23 million ? even if we add all the other volumes

49 One Piece #5 Eiichiro Oda 333,209
48 One Piece #4 Eiichiro Oda 336,091
46 One Piece #58 Eiichiro Oda 345,097
45 One Piece #3 Eiichiro Oda 350,238
40 One Piece #2 Eiichiro Oda 361,740
37 One Piece #1 Eiichiro Oda 380,967
33 One Piece #59 Eiichiro Oda 408,911
One Piece #60 Eiichiro Oda 604,485
2 One Piece #62 Eiichiro Oda 2,698,663
1 One Piece #61 Eiichiro Oda 3,133,092

the total isn't even 9 millions

Oh, I see what you mean. Well, it could either be a typo, or the remaining 52 volumes that didn't make the top 50 make up the difference.

i think you are right and it's a typo, they couldn't have made a "14 million copies" difference

It very well could be, but why couldn't the remaining 52 have made the 14 million copies in difference? Each copy would have to sell like 277,000 or so copies and since the old volumes 1-5 didn't have any trouble selling over 300,000 copies, I don't think it is to far fetched.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

If each of the other 52 OP Volume that don´t appear in TOP 50, sold about 300,000 copies...

52 x 300,000 = 15,600,000 copies

It´s possible OP sold more than 23 million copies in 6 month ^^

Well we're not talking only about the volumes that were released during that time period, we're talking about all of the series' volumes. Of course the release of a new volume is the greatest boost a series can hope for, but OP is a bit particular in the sense that the whole manga is reaching cult levels lately, or so it seems. Maybe we can guess that earlier volumes were also bought en masse during that period, and the total adds up to 23 million.

Keep in mind that OP has over 60 volumes, that makes an average of 300 000 sales per volume, which isn't that far from what the OP volumes in the top 50 appear to have sold. Add in a couple extras (character books and the such) and you could very well get to 23 million.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

yeah but for each and every volume to sell 277,000 that's very unlikely to me... i know in japan the love one piece so much but they couldn't have bought every single volume 277,000 times now :( for all the volumes to sell like that without any one selling more than the others or it would have appeared here is a long shot.... but not impossible though i don't believe in that
