Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Gintama above Toriko for 2 weeks in a row. That hasn't happened in a long time.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Again, probably because the Gintama movie just came out. I would be surprised if it DIDN'T sell a lot better.

Also, I think this week is right when the first episode of Gin no Saji aired or so. Or maybe just before. It probably wouldn't change a ton immediately.

Glad to see Doubutsu no Kuni a little higher. I think there's a good chance it'll get an anime at some point now. After winning the Kodansha Manga Award and all.

Yes, Gin no Saji's anime started during that week. Maybe my expectation about this series will become like Shingeki no Kyojin was too high since it is by a famous author and it already has high tank sale

It typically peaks in the low 20's, selling about 25-30,000 copies in it's first week. It most recently made the June 9-15 charts, ranking 26th. Comparing sales to most bestselling manga would just be wrong, Ikusa no Ko and it's Comic Zeon kin are niche titles, they are not marketed towards a mainstream audience. The publisher does not expect to appeal to a wide audience of fans, but rather to develop a small, dedicated audience.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

How comes the note on the chapter cover of Nanatsu no Taizai's chapter 37 says that there've been over 1 million copies sold so far, yet according to the data volume 1 sold 80,496, volume 2 sold 144,482 and volume 3 sold 169,758? All these copies amount to only 394,796 copies in total?

Oricon doesn't include all of the sales from the book store, so the number is different. Plus, 1 million copies is not a sale, it is a number of copies printed.

Yes, but we're talking about the first three volumes. In the second weeks the sales increased abit, but then disappeared in the following weeks. If the volumes were sold much more, shouldn't they be in the top 10 list even after the two weeks?

It's always "prints." You can never really know the exact sales of a specific item since it's always sold through retailers.

I believe Wintercry and K-dom had answered that one. Also, Japanese publishing industry more focus on the number of copes printed than the number of sales. So, when you see on the series said "such, such series surpassed such, such million," you should think of it as the number of copies printed.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Oricon tracks sales, so that will always seem a little low. Publishers release total copies in print, so that will always seem a little high. Total print is directed at stockholders and financiers whom publishers hope to impress with a nice, bug numbers. Notice how only big, even number are posted? It's always 1.8 million, never 1,718,256 copies printed.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Is this the first time Beelzebub's remained on the charts for 3 weeks straight? :blink I honestly can't remember.

Man, Assassination Classroom's numbers are amazing! If it can get an anime with the same production value as Shingeki no Kyojin I'm curious to know how the sales will compare to it.

The volume 1 and 2 of AC also sold around that.
