Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Kishibe Rohan's rank will not move. Glad to see Hoozuki no Reitetsu doing well. The anime hasn't even started yet, has it? It could do really well.

Can anybody explain to me how Sakamoto Desuga? got so popular so fast?
The displays it has in stores really command attention.

Not has a really explanation, is a very good and fun manga but 1 million seems so exaggerated for a serie that not has nothing really special in comparison to many others comedy and gag

Because many people like that series.
Oh really? nobody could be imagined this :)

do you have perhaps a picture?

i quite like the series and think the humor is unique. I don't know if it gets boring over time through overusing the same style, but at least now it is enjoyable. But I didn't thought it would be a huge seller. I guess the editorial department didn't think so too.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Thought Yowamushi Pedal would get more, anime is only having a tepid effect maybe. Oh well, will be interesting to hear total sales numbers for the series before and after anime.

Volume 12 went on sale on 9th of December.

So those sales are from a day before the street date.

Because the animation studio was interested to animate that series.

Is there any source that informs how many copies of Saint Seiya Next Dimension (#1 - #7) were sold so far?

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

@SharkBait: Wait, Coppelion's latest volume is released last week? Didn't know that.

This must be one of those cases where the anime is so bad it hurts the previously established albeit very minor reputation of a manga, aka Coppelion.

This is sad.

Also, Nichijou still charting! Does anyone know it's released date? I'm hoping that it was released late, which would explain for lower sales than volume 8.

Finally, hoping that Nichijou will sell more and somehow Coppelion turns things around.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Shingeki <3!! Going too strong man! So strong that it's spin offs and prequel are topping charts also!

Nichijou <3 passing dat 100k mark!

Feeling sad for Coppelion though, didn't chart at all, not even 10k or something like that. The anime hurted it's reputation badly :(.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Coppelion didn't have a reputation in the first place. The anime was good, GoHands did a marvelous animation job. The voice cast was outstanding, the direction and visuals were perfect. The source material was the problem. If the anime did hurt sales, I would be curious to know why people who were already reading the manga, and had progressed past the anime, stopped reading the manga because they did not like the anime. That would be a very strange, very dumb, reaction.

The last volume sold 23,669 in it's first week, falling out of the top fifty after one week. The volume before that sold 27,261 it's first week. The new volume came out on December 6, that weeks chart ended on December 8. The bottom of last weeks chart sold 18,604. Coppelion averages about 25,000 per volume during it's first week. With a short week, the new volume probably sold under 18,604 last week. Averaging only 25,000 during it's chart lifetime, it obviously was not going to sell the 21,029 copies needed to chart this week. It has nothing to do with readers dropping the manga because of the anime. Spreading about 25,000 copies over two weeks kept it off the chart.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

The thing with Coppelion was its anime was decided in late 2010. And then it was gonna air in like summer of 2011, but then there was the big 3/11 Touhoku Earthquake which made people afraid of REALLY having nuclear disasters making Japan uninhabitable, so it was delayed since it was such a delicate issue. I think by the time the anime now finally has come out, it had lost the small amount of popularity it had. It was already a pretty long manga and it was probably at its peak of popularity around that 2010-2011 period. I doubt the new stories helped it all that much, either.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Anime is just an advertisment for a manga. It works and become an entity of its own, or it doesn't and fades into obscurity. If anime could hurt anything, I would be worrying about One Piece every Sunday.
