Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

It's Kodansha that wants him
Is there relationship between Togashi and Kodansha, or did you just made mistake?

Also, it is unfair that Togashi gets a special treatment, but I don't think none of Jump authors are really complain about Togashi's treatment. I think the reason is most of current Jump authors are who read/watch YuYuHakusho when they were little, so I think they have really great respect for Togashi. So, they were just happy they were able to release their work in same magazine from Togashi serialized. So, from current Jump authors, I think the only person who actually can criticize Togashi is Akimoto.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

How is it unfair? This is a relatively standard treatment across the manga industry. Inoue is allowed to serialize REAL on a bi-monthly basis in Weekly Young Jump. He serialized Vagabond on an erratic basis as well, generally serializing thirty or fewer chapters a year, also in a weekly magazine. Miura only serializes nine chapters of Berserk a year, a volumes worth of chapters. Yamamoto only serialized ten chapters of Homunculus every year. Inio only serializes a single volume of Oyasumi Punpun in a year. Even Gantz has a special deal, serialized bi-weekly in a weekly magazine. Negima too, Akamatsu only serializes three chapters per month. There are many more examples too, I am sure. So how is it unfair if so many mangaka in so many different magazines were able to negotiate similar deals, and in some case, better than Togashi received.

Young Jump is kind of weird case; many series are serialized differently from regular serialization. Gantz and Beshari Gurashi are serialized bi-monthly; Ohanyuu, Destroy and Revolution, Zetman, and Rozen Maiden are serialized monthly; and Liar Game and Real are serialize irregularly. I'm kind of getting confused how Young Jump exactly works now.

Magazine serializes too many series for one magazine; Jump/Sunday currently has 21 series and Magazine has 28 series (not include series that is not serializing right now). So, Magazine always has one or two well-known series are being absent every week (however, it is indeed that Negima does have more absents than other series).

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

A contractual relationship...edit: Shueisha, Kodansha, who cares. :P Though it did sound weird in combination. /edit

Togashi, just like any author in the west gives them some of his work and in return recieves his royalities, just as they get their push in magazine sells and enable them to get even more from the tank sales. Again why shouldn't veterans get their own contracts, just like authors and illustrators everywhere else in the world?

Shinobu Kaitani[Liar Game] takes his time to produce some good intelligent plot for the next story arc, while Inoue does whatever he does, e.g. exhibitions around the world or planing for one of his projects. In the end we profit, if they get their time to plan in advance.

Well,I don't see a problem as long as HunterxHunter keeps its current TOC position.Shonen JUMP is a competition after all.Every single manga-ka tries his hardest to get to the first pages of the magazine as close as possible after all. They publish a chapter every single weak, unlike Togashi, who has more time to relax than them.So keeping HxH out of this competition is the only necessary step.

Why would you make my argument for me? Yes Young Jump has a number of series serialized on an irregular basis. Why? Because it is common industry practice. They offered Kobayashi, Mori, and Peach Pit irregular serialization to lure them to Shueisha. Inoue was lured back with irregular serialization. Like Togashi long time Shueisha mangaka's Oku, Morita, and Katsura were rewarded and retained by allowing for irregular serialization. The treatment Togashi receives is not an exception that WSJ is making but standard practice throughout the manga industry.

Also, you conveniently ignored the other examples I gave. I did not only site examples from ShoMag, Sunday, and Young Jump. I also used examples from Morning, Big Comic Spirits, and Young Animal. Are those magazines some sort of exception too? What about Afternoon, where Blade of the Immortal is serialized irregularly? What about Comic Beam, where Ultraheaven is serialized irregularly? And do not doubt that if anyone tried they could find countless other examples in countless magazines. You are dead wrong, Togashi is not being treated unfairly nor is irregular serialization an exception restricted to Magazine, Sunday, and Young Jump. It is a common industry practice used to lure mangaka from other publishers and retain the services of established artists.

You're right. A lot of manga do that "appears once every other/fourth issue" in order for the author to be allowed their own pace while still be in the magazine they want to be in. There are a lot more than the ones you mentioned. Billy Bat, Chii's Sweet Home, and Hyouge Mono all run bi-weekly in Morning, for example. And that magazine doesn't have that many series.

Considering how famous Berserk is, and how well known it is for taking breaks, I do wonder why so many manga fans think that HxH has such a strange arrangement. Even Level E was serialized irregularly, monthly in Weekly Jump. Togashi had already been allowed irregular serialization years before he even started Hunter x Hunter.

I'll go back three pages to say that three consecutive months of Sket Dance volumes make sense. The last chapter to be released in tankobon format was Ch. 190, and the most recent chapter released is 217. I don't know why Shinohara and the publishers were holding it off for so long. I feel sorry for the tankobon readers.

Based on Murata's twitter, he said that the magical girl picture that he uploaded before was created for a pin-up girl for upcoming Miracle Jump. So, I'm beginning skeptical that the picture is for new serialization.

It is possible to serialize in a bi-monthly magazine. It may not be his only serialization, but then again maybe it will. He has already stated that it will be a serialization not a one shot, there really is no room to debate that fact. And could you please link to the tweet where he says it will be in Miracle Jump? That way one of our many wonderful translators can confirm the information is correct.

I'll just copy and paste what he said:

http://twitpic.com/8729q4 - 告知!これ、2月7日(火)発売のミラクルジャンプのピンナップです。架空の漫画のヒロインを描くと言うシリーズ企画に参加させて頂きました。イラストの下半分も頑張って描いてるので是非お手元に!
---------- Post added at 07:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:36 PM ----------

It is said he drew the picture for part of a plan on drawing a heroine from finctional manga (like manga in Bakuman). I believe Katsura Masakazu, Oku Hiroya, Minagawa Ryouji, Oh! Great, and Ohtagaki Yasuo have participated in this plan.

It is confirmed that Jojo's Bizarre Adventure will have live-adaptation movie, plus Matsumoto Jun will be main role for a movie.

I remember reading somewhere here that it will also have an anime, have there been any news about it or was it fake?

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

So this is why Kanou's volume comment was so depressing.

Kagami no Kuni no Harisugawa Vol #01 Author comment
Who was it!?
Who was the person that made a setting where the protagonist cannot meet anyone or go anywhere, and a story that cannot expand at all!
Ah, it was me..........

Out of all the regrets I've had in the past, this series is the one that I've writhed about drawing the most.
Even if it's just a little bit, I would be happy if you enjoyed it.

yeah but kanou is totally right with it. i never saw this manga getting more than 100+ chapters. it's a miracle he could do so many with some unexpecting twists. (because they were expected much later)

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

An interesting lineup. I'm always happy if Toriko is on the cover. And great to see Gintama in second after One Piece. It's really deserved it with the last arc. Nisekoi still seems to be doing very well, TOC wise. Whether it can stay that well as the series goes longer and volumes come out, we'll see.
Not such good news for Harisugawa. And Stars for some reason still hasn't been canceled. Most of the rest is in their average place. It just so happens that this week Sket Dance is high and Beelzebub is low, but those are always switching all over the place.

With HXH's big climax next week, I'm wondering what's gonna happen. Probably just a regular center color. But to hear that HXH is finally going to have a tankoubon come out WHILE IT'S STILL RUNNING IN THE MAGAZINE would really mean something at this point.
