Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Top ten ranks are essential, even with so many series ranked. Consistently placing in the front half of the magazine is the only way to ensure continued serialization. When the magazine is as crowded as it is that only means the occasional dalliance in the back of the magazine is not a disaster, as long as a series spends the majority of it's time in the top ten.

Yes but the first half of the magazine is a top 10 within all the series (ie counting color pages and non ranked) which is not what is done here. Pakki, being place before the last color page has a good rank this week but so far its ranks were not to worrisome.

If Hunter x Hunter does not go into hiatus after chapter 340, is it safe to consider that Hunter is not an irregular serialization anymore, or should still consider as irregular serializing series?

I don't think that matters at all....if it stays it stays, if not well...

Yeah as far semantics go. However, regarding cancellation...
I think the correct thing to think here would be to assume HxH is still getting special treatment. The only time we can know for sure that it's treated as a regular serialization is the moment it's cancelled.

Well, it is not weird for HxH getting special treatment since it is third highest selling series in Jump, Togashi had contributed to Jump's Golden Age, and his name value is still strong. Plus, HxH will never considered to be cancelled.

Hunter x Hunter probably won't go on hiatus until Dragon Quest X comes out. Then it'll be on hiatus forever because DQX is an MMO.

Well since this is the longest HXH has been published straight without (author) breaks I think its fair to say its now regularly published, I don´t think Shueisha would have let Togashi begin a new arc without some sort of promise or something that Togashi is doing ok and that maybe he will have some chapters with sloopy art (like past week) but he will work weekly.

i thought you're safe as long as you sell around 500,000 per volume? that's what's in bakuman, right?

hxh is never gonna get cancelled, what with the sales it gets.

I echo the sentiments about HXH not getting cancelled no matter how low it ranks. Togashi and WSJ have a long relationship, and he worked his ass off with Yu Yu Hakusho so there is a certain privilege he has earned. I'm sure if Oda or Kishimoto has a new series, they'll be treated similarly as well.

It's kind of nostalgic to see the top 3 in that order; I'm still amused Magico is still going strong; boo at Sket being in the bottom half. :(

Agreed. There is no way Hunter x Hunter is canceled, it's a classic and one of the magazines most popular titles. Nor will it ever switch magazines.

We'll know if it Togashi is taking another break next week. If he is it will likely say at the end of the next chapter. I hope not, being able to read Hunter x Hunter every week has been such a treat. The art was back to form this week too, not sure if that means anything though.

I don't think anybody fears Hunter x Hunter being cancelled, rather than going on hiatus. I think its TOC place corresponds more or less to the number of votes like other series but similar to Mago and Kochikame it has no impact wrt cancellation.

This week chapter was special, so maybe he put more focus on the drawing of this chapter at the expense of previous ones

Are there some people actually think Hunter x Hunter going to get cancelled?

I am more in fear of Togashi just giving a random ending than it getting canelled, honestly chances are way higher.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

I've discussed this before, but the REASON Togashi has a weird release schedule is in order to PREVENT him from giving stuff sudden ends.
I posted that letter he wrote about why he ended Yu Yu Hakusho abruptly way back, and did a qucik translation of it. Basically the reason that had the end it did was because he was overworked and overstressed and it was destroying his life. Now he has assistants (I think) and a family to support (based on the cover flaps) so I think he's fine on that front. Otherwise I'm pretty sure he'd have ended it way back when he went 20 months in a row without releasing anything.
Also there are several plot points left open. And he just introduced a new major one. Also it said at the end of the last chapter that a new major arc was starting.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

I'm not worried about any of that. Thirty straight weeks of new chapters is enough to banish the thought of another hiatus. If one comes, it comes. In the meantime I'm going to continue enjoying a great run of chapters.

Cancellation of HxH ? Do you want a ending of a manga with unanswered questions ? And why would Jump/Suieasha canceld such a famouse and one of the best selling Jump-series ?

Hehe, it seems that this thread has become a sub-forum for Hunter x Hunter recently :-)
Anyway about HxH cancelation we all agree. Nobody says it was going to be cancelled anyway, so it's quite funny there is so many answers to a question which was not even raised.

For those who read the raw, how is HQ! so far ? Do you feel like it has some potential ?
After 2 ecchi bomb chapters, it seems that Pajama slow it down a little, I guess it was time to start a plot.

HQ! is really interesting and is much better than Kurogane and all of the other sport series' that Jump has had over the past few years. Unfortunately, the art makes the series a chore to read, and it is just so ugly and scary and out of place. I think this series has alot of potential, but I think the art won't go over well with the voters. I'm most likely going to drop HQ! though :(

Pajama na Kanojo is my favourite of the two new series. Chapter 1 and 3 were really good. I didn't enjoy chapter 2 as much as the other two which was probably because of the lack of Yuki. The series is very daring so I'm anxiously waiting to see how it will do in the rankings. I'll be looking foward to reading this series every week and will also definitely be purchasing the volume's when they are released.

If I were to rank the new series and there potential it would probably look like this -
- Nisekoi > Pajama > HQ! > Magico > Pakki > Kurogane > ST&RS

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've also noticed that since I've began reading Nisekoi every week, I just cannot seem to enjoy reading it when it is in English. The translations are perfectly fine, but the characters seem so annoying when they are speaking English compared to when they are speaking Japanese :(

I've never had this problem before when a change of language has so greatly effected the amount I've enjoyed a certain series. I'm just curious, but has anyone else had a similar problem to this before?
