Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

I'm bored with this week's ToC...most is about normal or not remotely shocking. Sucks Kurogane is so low and Hunter x Hunter is going on a long hiatus though.

HXH on hiatus again? :blink I wonder how long this break will last for.

Hurray @ Sket Dance taking the silver! Yes, I know Bleach and Toriko are not listed this week. It makes me relieved that JUMP is still willing to give Mago colour pages.

i never understood why this series was cancled at that time. maybe they hoped to find a new series fast, which would seel equally or more and do better in the toc? yeah, afterwards that wasn't their best idea.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

Maybe it just didn't reach the targeted sales, Hatsukoi Limited eneded with vol 4 too.

Pretty bad sales for Kurogane though, and it's near the bottom, is the plot good or does it seem to go next?

side note: Kazé Manga[the Shueisha company in germany] released their first WSJ manga Nuro and Toriko.:P

Kurogane's sales is understandable given that it's from a debuting author with no backgroud career whatsoever and it's only been in the bottom twice (including this one) so I guess it's far from cancellation yet. And there's still ST&RS and Magico to be its cushion, it will be depending on Nisekoi and Pakky's future performance and the other two new series if Kurogane will be the next in the chopping block. About the plot, nothing's really spectacular or extra special about it but it isn't bad, actually I think it's a good and an enjoyable read and the author has a lot of potential in doing a slice of life, sports series.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

i never understood why [Ane Doki] was cancled at that time.
I completely agree. Obviously, the poor ToC rankings were the major problem, but the sales were surprisingly high for a series that had such a short life. In terms of plot, Ane Doki did exactly what a romantic comedy series is supposed to do, so surely the editors couldn't have been disappointed with the content after having approved it in the first place.

Overall, I like how fans are directly involved in the fate of a series, but reader input in canceling and replacing a series doesn't account for the quality of its successor. Ane Doki might have been under-performing in the ToC, but surely it achieves little to replace Ane Doki and the two series that ended shortly after it (Kanata Seven Change and Neko Wappa) with Lock On and Yotsuya, the latter of which apparently didn't even reach a quarter of the sales of Ane Doki.

Hopefully Hunter x Hunter comes back soon. Back to only caring about one Jump manga.

Ad in WSJ #16 about Bleach's absence:

Kubo had the flu, and it was so bad that they yanked Bleach for one issue.

Should be noted that they only 'plan' to have it back in issue 17, rather than it being a guarantee. So I guess his condition isn't at a point that they want to make promises.

Noooooooo! I had high hopes for HxH now x) I was really psyched about a new arc and everything :-( Hope it'll be a short hiatus at least! A year or more would be too much for me!

Ouch, besides Hoshino Katsura I haven't seen too many Jump authors come down with a flu that bad. I hope he has a swift recovery. =/

I hate to say it but I am absolutely floored Beelzebub is so close to the bottom 5. From what I've seen, people REALLY loved the whole Hilda Amnesia arc.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

A low ranking does not seem to mean much for Beelzebub. The top of the TOC is so crowded that Kuroko, Beelzebub, and Medaka seem to get knocked to the bottom every once in a while. Most likely it has more to do with space considerations rather than a series preforming poorly.

Of course, you're right about that. :P I agree, the ToC is kind of bursting at the seams. Nothing has been cancelled since Mirror World, which is amazing. My comment on Beelzebub was purely based on its rank and not at all about its context. Beelzebub, Medaka, Kuroko, and even Sket Dance have fickle rankings that make them consistently 2nd tier.

i don't think that will be the final result. Nurarihyon no Mago higher than beel and kurogane? that would be quite a suprise.

I guess I'll say it this time...the preview on Jump's website in no way reflects the actually ToC. They are just put in a seemingly random order and is completely different from the actual ToC nearly every week. After the ToC comes out, however, that list will change to show the actual rankings. But as far as an early ToC, it is not. So ignore it please.

I think Zeromcd puts the list from the preview because the order has reflect very closely to ToC recently. That's why he puts the order from preview.

If it does it's just coincidence. Some weeks it's close, other weeks it's as far off as could be. My point is it's kinda pointless as we've gone over this nearly every week it seems like.
