Metallica had a really fun first chapter and an interesting premise. It would have been perfect for the magazine... back in the 80s. It's really unfortunate that it was in WSJ and not a childrens' magazine. And it was essentially a rip-off of early DB/HxH, which hampered its chances a bit.

...A bit? There was not one original thing about it. It had DB, HxH, OP and Toriko. And it even stole the power from Yakitate Japan.

Being inspired by something is fine, but Metalluca proved that there's a line that can be crossed, even if the art and pacing is good.

Sometimes I wonder if the stress and all the pressure gets to oda and affect him.

Anyway,
I'm surprised that reborn! is actually above bleach's shinigami return chapter.
I wonder if toriko have already claim the permanent seating beside op and naruto.

For me, st&rs and beelzebub being bottom 5 is ridiculous

and I'm sad to see engima! still there. It's like engima and magico are taking turns in that position.
Really pleased with Medaka's ranking too.

I don't think Metallica is that bad. I think shonen magazine isn't suited for Mizuno. I think Mizuno is more suitable for children magazine, like CoroCoro, V Jump, and Saikyo Jump.

Also, Sawai Yoshio (author of Bobobo) also going to serialzie in Saikyo Jump for spin-off or side story of Bobobo.

There has also been some speculation on the internet that Sakaki Kenji, (Enigma's Author) has gotten a divorce from Kyosuke Usuta due to what she wrote in this weeks author's comment page in Jump.

急に寒くなってきたので、早くもこたつを出しました。こたつ最高。結婚したい。<健滋>
It's suddenly became very cold, I've already got my Kotatsu out. Kotatsu are the greatest. "I want to get married." <Kenji>

Of course this is just speculation based on a single comment.

If you would like to view the author comments published in Jump every week, you can view them HERE

Ouch. I'm hoping that was just supposed to be a joke or something. It would make it even worse if Enigma got the axe.

I think the comment is kind of like joke; she want to get married to kotatsu because it is warm. I think people are just overthinking.

God I know what you mean. Not only are idiots going on Amazon and reviewing it in an attempt to stop people from ordering her volumes, but getting canceled to top it off with a divorce. I just feel sorry for her. Still gonna hope for the best though. ;)

Though Negative could be right. She does seem like she's just admiring the leg(?) warmer things.

It seems really silly to allude to something so private in a jump author comment no? It has to be a joke.

Shit, now I can see how Bakuman's latest arc really relates to the author.

Unlike Bakuman, the real WSJ's mangaka line-up consists of 'middle-aged' people. The average age there is 35-45... the fictional one consist of super prodigies in their early 20s.
pfft.

That was my biggest problem with the last arc and how they tried to act like some of the mangaka who were in their 30s and 40s were geezers and had to GTFO and make room for the ones in their 20s or something. Give me a break and stop insulting my intelligence please. Anyone who checks the age of the current Jump mangaka would see something horrendously wrong with how they tried to play that off.

i thought they would be more like 45-55, besides they are called geezer by the "kidz". ask a 16 year old if you are a really really old with 30 =)

With two guys in their forties writing and drawing Bakuman, you should realize that it's exaggerated and shouldn't take it so seriously... I don't read Bakuman[on-hold], but looking back a decade, you will see three guys in their twenties taking over the top 3 WSJ, Tite, Oda, Kishimoto with others like Mitsutoshi returning after a while. Maybe this gen just has not enough good young talents or they do manga for other magazines. The manga became unrealistic the moment I saw Eiji Niizuma or rather when it was released in the WSJ. :D

Well, at least Heishi, the actual current EIC of WSJ became the EIC in Bakuman, and Ohba didn't make Aida, Yuushiro, or Hattori the EIC for some odd reason.

Personally I don´t think Bakuman its exaggerated at how it portrays ages.. Its not unheard of young authors submitting mangas.

If you think about it there are lots of mangakas that began their careers relatively young, Masanori Morita begna at 18, Oda began at 17, Kentaro Yabuki had its first published manga at 18 to cite a few examples.

The things is that there are just too many hits with too much volumes in the present, maybe as Schabrak says new authors aren´t as good, maybe with the child birth decline in Japan there aren´t as many new authors or JUMP wants to stick with their known line-up.
What I mean is that the average age of authors isn´t what it used to be, just think like it was 2003-2004 and lets compare TOCs, shall we?
TOC 2003 Issue 15
I choose this poll since it’s the last poll that is on biwa site, if it were for me I would have used one of 2004, with Gintama, Death Note, D-Gray Man, etc.
Kochikame: Osamu Akimoto 51
ONE PIECE: Eiichiro Oda 28
NARUTO: Masashi Kishimoto 28
Shaman King: Hiroyuki Takei 31
Eyeshield 21: Riichiro Inagaki 26 & Yusuke Murata 24
Prince of Tennis: Takeshi Konomi 32
ROOKIES: Masanori Morita 37
Mr. FULLSWING: Shinya Suzuki 27
Kanna de: Horibe Takeo 24
Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo: Yoshio Sawai 26
Hunter X Hunter: Yoshihiro Togashi 37
Yu-Gi-Oh!: Kazuki Takahashi 43 (He had been working as manga artist since 1982!! And his debut as mangaka was in 1991 in the manga Buray which by the looks of it was a wrestling manga (?) thankfully he did Yu-Gi-Oh! And finally had success!! (And what success!)
BLEACH: Kubo Tite 26
Ultra Red: Suzuki Nakaba 26 (BTW his mangas LOOK soooo cool!! Like Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure cool)\
Black Cat: Yabuki Kentaro 23
Ichigo 100%: Mizuki Kawashita 32
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Hirohiko Araki 43
TATTO HEARTS: Kajisa Osamu 29 (Was assistant to Kishimoto)
Granada: Itou Mikio (Legendary) 29 (This is funny though since a week from this issue’s release he would turn 30, but for the sake of me winning argument he is 29 LOL)
Pretty Face: Yasuhiro Kano 33
Pyu to Fuku Jaguar!: Kyosuke Usuta ??? (I think he should be above 30 since he had already been working for like 8 or so years)
And just for the heck of it, Shimabukuro (TORIKO mangaka) had its first hit during this period Leader Dan Takeshi its manga was cancelled due to circumstances, since it was cancelled (It was a big hit) I will count it, he was 27 years old.

Also.. LOL at 2 baseball mangas running at the same time.. I mean.. In the long history of JUMP those are some of the most well-known baseball mangas and they ran at the same time LOL.
A sume of 656 years distributed in 21 authors (1 unkown) for an average of 31.2380 years per author.
Versus.

Isn't that still like a 7-10 age difference from Bakuman's known authors? I'm not sure. The manga itself is quite mellow and seemed to exaggerate a lot of things, so when I read through it, I kind of skim through it.

Ashirogi, Eiji and Iwase are 20-22 years old, Fukuda and Aoki 23-26, Hiramaru 27-30, Nakai 33-38 (Can't remember), Shoyo and Shun should be 18-20, Nanamine 17 IIRC.
With those characters the average is 23.444 years per author.
In the Bakuman-verse Dragon Ball, ONE PIECE, Naruto, BLEACH, TORIKO, To-Love Ru (Was), Kochikame have appeared in old JUMP covers and several mangas have been mentioned.. I don't remember which but Saint Seiya was hinted at when Eiji mentioned a manga about Chemicals.. I think enigma was mentioned too?
Counting the authors that are supposedly still in JUMP which IIRC are both Oda (36) and Akimoto (58) the average age goes a little higher, 27.727.

---------- Post added at 09:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:09 PM ----------

LOL... Guys I just found out something while looking for an author that'd fill either Ashirogi's or Eiji's age and do you guys recall how I mentioned Rokudenashi BLUES's mangaka Masanori Morita was 18 when he got serialized, looking at wikipedia you can clearly see the connection.
I am sure Ohba asked the WSJ staff if there have ever been a high-schooler serialized mangaka and that's what the staff came up with. Although Yabuki Kentaro got published at 18 too, and he was an assistant to Oabta, he might was well named the character Yabuki too lol.
Takeshi Obata himself won an award at age 16.

Seems like to get serialized in a young age you have to have pretty art since all these examples of mangakas being serialized/winning awards soon had pretty, pretty art, Obata and Morita in a more realistic way and Kentaro.. Well we all know what's Kentaro is drawing right now :p
