One piece doesn't have bishies.
Reborn is full of them but that doesn't say anything about its standing but maybe because its due to the bishies
that it lasted so long.
Enough with my assumptions tho.
I like this week's toc except maybe for nura's position.
Nura does not deserve this :(
I'm pretty sure the new arc is getting ranked already..maybe nura is too dark.
Another series is engima, engima has come quite far (one year) so I really hope it stays.

Magico is..unfortunately, rock bottom and near hopeless.

Nice to see Kagami is well received :D do want it to stay there and sket dance deserves that.

I like Kagami no Kuni but i just have an odd feeling it won't make it to a natural end. On the other hand i think ST&RS will become hugely popular, it has a really unique art style and seems to be the kind of thing that people from a really young age to a really old age could get into. But that's just me >.>
I think you're just being hopeful. ST&RS may become popular but I don't think it'll reach extreme levels (say, Bakuman).

There are many Jump series which are good and are popular but lack that one final killer touch. In Jump right now as far as I can tell, only One Piece, Naruto, Bleach and Gintama have it, and Gintama only once in a blue moon, and Bleach feels a little bit forced at times. Having a sort of drama that makes the manga feel epic (not to overuse the word) and heavy. Ao no Exorcist shows potential for it and Shingeki no Kyojin has it, too. I think well-done drama is the one "key" thing that could take a shonen series to the next level in terms of hit-status. Toriko has barely any drama and even with such a mainstream concept it's still taking off slowly.
There are other series that integrate drama like Nurarihyon but even then it's just not as good.

Ahah..ahah. Gintama fans get less than that, believe it or not. I just now got raws for the last two weeks worth of chapters. Be happy it at least gets scantlated on a regular basis....>_>
It.. it does? I thought the Gintama chapters were lagging by a year at least with the gap only widening

This brings up my opinion about Mirrorland: the lighthearted drama in it is something refreshing in Jump. Hence why I'm loving this series and the reason why it could very well fare better than St&rs.

Yeah I'm glad to see how well Kagami no Kuni is doing. Normally it's the kind of series I wouldn't be interested in, but so far I've been enjoying it a lot. Plus Kano really deserves some success (even though I'd rather it'd be with Mx0 or Loop). Both Mago and Enigma should really have higher places in the ToC, the latter's current chapters are obviously being affected by the series' low position. Is it because both series are pretty dark compared to other series currently being serialized in the magazine?

Well at least seeing Sket Dance doing so well makes me happy!

I don't think Shonen Jump is lacking in the bishie department either, but I think I understand what you mean. :p

I guess since I haven't been following Jump that much, I assumed that percentage has been like that for quite some time. I'm surprised 20% is a high number, but if it is that's really incredible. (Now I'm curious...how many female mangaka are currently serialized in Jump? I can count two off the top of my head: Enigma and Reborn.)
The media guide goes back to 2007, it has been 20% the whole time. That actually is a large number of female readers, by shounen/seinen standards. SQ is higher but all of the seinen magazines are considerably lower, closer to 10% or less. Business Jump was 11%, Super Jump was 10.5%. Both will be merged into a single magazine in October. Young Jump is 15.4% while action oriented Ultra Jump is 5.2%.

I think the One Piece effect is probable. I mean, if you're buying the magazine, you might as well read the whole thing and fill out the questionaire as well. I also think its because Jump has a lot more long-running series. Some of the adults who read One Piece when they were kids are not only still reading it, they are recommending it to their work friends. Same for other long-running series like Naruto and Bleach and even Gintama to a certain extent. Kochikame seems to be an exception this, though.
It's only a guess, for series like One Piece that appeal to a wide variety of readers it is not unusual for fans to skip the magazine and wait for tankobon. But One Piece drawing a lot of new, older readers to the magazine seems logical,

EDIT: I agree with Kaiten, a manga like Bakuman would have been REALLY out of place in Jump 10 years ago. And a nostalgic factor is alway good to have.
It would have fit back when they running series like Nube, Sexy Commando Gaiden, I"S, and Ichigo 100%. Not so much in 2005 or 2006.

On the color page, it said that Enigma will be getting its first character popularity poll. So, I can safely concludes that Enigma is safe on next round of cancellation.

Thus, my speculation for next round of cancellation is like this. Since there is no series that have replaced Golden Future Cup's place, so there is four possibilities:

1. Hunter x Hunter go to hiatus again and two new series going to start
2. Magico ends, Hunter x Hunter doesn't go to hiatus, and two new series going to start
3. Magico ends, Hunter x Hunter goes to hiatus, and three new series going start
4. Skips any cancellation and new series like last year

How others think about my speculation?

YAY for Enigma's surivial!! Though I feel bad for Magico right now...

Not sure about which of them is the most likely. I do imagine that Togashi will have to keep Hunter X Hunter going a bit more consistently with a new anime and all(they'll have to catch up eventually) so I agree/hope with/for the options that say he won't be taking a hiatus for a while

Mieru Hito cancelled before popularity poll result come, the result have to wait until tankoubon out. Sakaki probably won't be as unlucky as Iwashiro though.

When Miertu Hito started its popularity poll, does it said just "popularity poll," or it had written as "first popularity poll?"

"First" can always be it's "Last", not saying I want Enigma to end, but I wouldn't put my faith in that being the factor of it surviving or not...

True but I still think this makes it more likely that it'll survive the next cancellation round if there is one anytime soon. Magico isn't really doing all that much better...

However I think the real deciding factor will be the next tankobon for Enigma. If the sales continue to rise then it should probably be safe.

I don't agree, the sales are just too low to keep it in if it's not able to rise at least to the top of the last 5. It would need to sell at least around Mago's sales or else the money factor just isn't big enough

I don't agree with your disagree. :P

Not only has Enigma just hit a new arc, it hit its one year anniversary, its first character poll, a colour page and its ONLY been in the bottom for two weeks in a row, which the colour page ultimately broke. It's true its sales aren't as good as Mago, but they're still higher than Magico which is also in an equally bad situation. Ikkyu was on the bottom for 5 weeks in a row, which Enigma has only been on for 2.

I'm not sure if Miertu Hito was canceled or the author ended it naturally, but it could have been the authors choice to reveal the popularity poll in the volume over the magazine and decided to end it. Enigma did get into the top 30 Oricon last time.

It's their choice, cancel a mystery manga of 49 chapters of hype and only just now having a drop to last position.
Or cancel an action manga (which they already got enough off of) of 26 chapters. Magico unfortunately didn't get into the top 30 Oricon(sp?) list.

Unfortunately, it's both Sakaki and Naoki's first manga being published, so I really do wish neither of them got canceled, but if I had to put money down, it'd be Magico that's going.

I hope that the new Act makes rankings go up, as well as the new characters. I mean, there are a few factors that may raise its rankings, which could be spoilers for non-Enigma readers:
Mao's defeat, Akame's defeat, Masked Gentleman's identity being revealed, Cannibal being revealed, Cannibal's defeat, Kuroiwa's defeat and the return of the other e-test players.

well don't misunderstand me, I think that Magico definitely has a higher chance of getting canceled. Just wanted to point out that if Enigma stays at the bottom rising sales won't save it. It may be safe for now but I really hope that it's ranking will rise, after all it's the only mystery manga in Jump and it's definitely refreshing.

Right, I know, I know. I have a bad feeling it's doomsday for both if things don't improve for either. :(

Umm...when I mentioned "rising sales". I just meant that would be a possible requirement for it to outlast Magico(though all signs seem to be pointing towards Magico going first). I know it has to move back up the rankings to survive overall.

well I don't think that's even needed, the difference in sales isn't that big. Enigma already got through one year and it's a mystery manga that's why I think it has at least a bit of a special position, kinda like Kuroko.

Magico is a goner if anything should get canceled

Actually, Magico did manage go into top 30 Oricon on its volume 1 and it barely missed volume 2 on top 30; on the other hand, there are no data for Enigma's tank sales for volume 1 and 2. So, when I use your logic on tank sales, than Enigma has more higher chance to be cancelled than Magico, since there is higher chance that Magico can reach or pass Enigma on tank sales.

The suspense series are very difficult to have very high popularity and tank sales from shonen magazine. The suspense series have more higher chance to be successful in seinen magazine; in order for suspense series to be successful in shonen magazine, it must have shocking and surprising establishment, like Death Note. Enigma is good, but not as shocking as Death Note.

Therefore, my ideal prediction will be Hunter x Hunter will go to hiatus and two new series go in. I'm usually go sad when Hunter x Hunter go into hiatus; this time, I'm actually going to be happy for Hunter's hiatus, since actually I think all of current line-up (well, except Kurogane since I've only read two chapters and not sure whether I like this series or not) is very strong, so I don't want none of them to become cancel. So, I'm going to be very glad that Hunter to be sacrifice for Enigma and Magico.

Well it's true that Enigma was last only in Jump #40 and #39 but (excpet #34 and #31) it was down in the bottom5 from Jump #30. While Magico began his drop in Jump #34, right after a color page.

For the tankobon, they are practically the same. Both Enigma #4 and Magico #2 sold around 40k copies. So Top30 or not doesn't really matter.

Is Mieru Hito the only recent series that's been cancelled during it's popularity poll?

Because if we're talking about a isolated one-time scenario I don't think there's any problem assuming Engima will probably be safe for at least the short term.
