Sorachi's gag focuses more on current event and pop culture, which can be conveyed easily with graphics. Nishio's gag, on the other hand, are mostly playing on words (a lot of puns, as well as twisting the meaning of certain words, etc.), and works better in text, but hard to make a joke out of it with graphics. Couple with the whole battle stuff, it just diminishes it greatly in my opinion.

Also, Nishio doesn't seem to like repeating a pun/joke so that the readers get it (or, rather, knows the character is saying something funny)... While Sorachi just keeps beating the dead horse until it bursts into flame, (which is what makes if REALLY funny, BTW :P)

Heh, yeah that's true enough. Sorachi's also really for lack of better words, mean. :-P The current arc is a lampoon that spears the 3DS and otaku visual novels. It's not so much he's critical on these things, as much as he loves to point out the sometimes illogical ways people behave. Gintama's like an unholy union between Kenshin, Cromartie High, and Zetsubou sensei. :-P

On topic, I haven't even read Medaka, so I guess I can't really defend or denounce it. In the last part of your reply, do you mean (which is what makes IT really funny?) otherwise I'm not sure I get it. I would love to see non action series survive in Jump, but maybe it's hit it's niche with what it has? (Sket, Inumaru, Gintama, Kuro?)

Yes, I meant that the fact Sorachi keeps repeating a theme throughout a chapter/arc intensifies the funny factor. It's like a machine gun that just keeps hitting you until the end of the chapter/arc.

Yeah, that would be awesome! I really hope he will make a comeback in 2011, cause this year have been a good yer so far (at least when it comes to music).

The Greed Island arc is probably the best and most intersting manga arc I have ever read!

Jorped: I recommend that you read it anyway. It's actually not a fast-read manga, cause there's a lot of psychological aspects to the manga too, not just plain action and battles. Lot of text, and you actually have to use you're brain a little bit (compared to other battle-manga).

but even if it's back can it compete with the other mangas ? it has been on a break since forever and surely all it's fans ( i'm a big big fan ) have already moved on

I think that it has a lot of potential to keep up with the others, but that's my personal opinion. The Ant Arc is at it's climax right now and with the end of this arc in sight. I think that characters like Hisoka, Kurapica and the Ryodan who may return in the storyline could boost it again. :D

Togashi needs now a break!!!
He drew a picture and even painted it, guess thats it for 2011.

After all, i would be happy if he comes back and bring it to an end, but i doubt that will ever happen before he dies.

I think HxH could compete with the other mangas. It's not gonna beat One Piece and Naruto I guess, but it would probably be around top 7 or something? Like Host Samurai is saying, the current arc is at it's climax. I think a lot of people who read HxH would love this climax, and those who haven't found the ant arc that good will look forward to the next arc. HxH is a manga with great potential and great characters, so it could proably do really well, even though it's been on hiatus for a while.

Now, there are only 5 mangakas/illustrators left for the illustrations: Kishimoto, Sorachi, Shiibashi, Obata, and Akatsuki.

Also, I hope SQ authors to do the illustrations as well.

So, the cries of desperation from his (remaining) HxH fans do not make him take his pen and draw, but the quake and tsunami do. >__>
If Togashi does not want to do the hectic weekly schedule, then please at least do a monthly one... ;____;

Sorry for this insensitive comment.

There are several monthly magazines, such as Dengeki Daioh and Gundam Ace, having their cheer for Japan illustrations posted on their magazine. It is pretty possible that SQ might go for that instead of opening a section on their website.

But then again, I have not yet hear anything about the Seinen magazines, like Young Jump, Business Jump, and Ultra Jump...

It is possible that SQ might release the illustrations posted on magazine, but next issue for SQ going to release at April 21st and I think it is little too late. So, I think it is better to release the illustrations on online, like Shonen Jump.

Or he can simply op for the route of his buddy, Hagiwara, and aim for 1 tank per year, plus squeezing out those Complete Edition volumes every now and then.

But I doubt he's going to do it.

UJ didn't have anything on this issue (2011-04 that came out on 03/19), and nothing on their website at the moment either.

Of course it's best to have it on the website, but we just don't have anything from them at the moment...

I mean the ONLY publishers that has a whole company wide illustration page up are Square-Enix and Hakusensha, the rest are either magazine specific or no online sites at all.

The breaks haven't hurt it in the past. The most recent volumes have still sold extremely well (and better than any Jump series not named One Piece or Naruto) despite the lengthy breaks. I think it has been proven time and time again that Hunter x Hunter's fans will always wait for it.

Ooooh... Thank you for that info~
It's a shame if they don't do illustrations, I was looking forward to possibly see Araki-sensei and okama-sensei's :/

The fact that Shueisha gave HxH higher first print than Bleach says it all... :P

Whats the problem behind hxh? Is it illness or stress? Because the best way to prevent both thing would be to do it like the boys in bakuman. draw chapters before the ongoing serialization till its enough to back up quite some time. he could even take a break between arcs. in my opinion a much better way than doing nothing at all. It would appreciate this way for all mangakas, so they can think about stuff ahead and do their arcs better. it's not like all of them have such a hard cut in story flow like kuboto, but it wouldn't harm them.

How much money does someone like him make with manga? Seriously he works every now and then like he doesn't need money every month for a living.
