which in itself is disconcerting. Like why is there such a disparity between some of these shows country of origin and western territories, demo-wise? You'd think with better marketing they'd have a shot at having these cartoons be less of a... insular thing, regarded as something "other" by so many people. I'm not necessarily decrying their current audiences and timeslots, but it sucks a bit that that's how it is.
Maybe I'm not remembering, or ill-informed, but the only animes that aired in the conventional, Saturday-morning slots that had success were stuff like Pokemon, Yugioh, Digimon, maybe Beyblade. Basically franchises tied to aggressive merchandising. Along with 4Kids bad production, it's probably why One Piece didn't take off for that demographic, despite being initially aimed there. It's all about toys and games in addition to the show for that demo. Even Naruto, which wasn't aimed at the Adult Swim audience, initially, didn't air until later in the day. Keep in mind that the Toonami block of anime, which made DBZ popular years ago, was gone by this point, IIRC. The majority of anime, regardless of it's intended audience in Japan, airs at these late-night timeslots. Unless you are on a system that has Funimation's channel.

Yeah that sounds about right. Stuff like Yuyu Hakushou and DBZ were on weeknights at like 5pm and stuff. Most of the anime that air on Saturday mornings are the ones with game or card tie-ins. Heck, other than Yugioh I don't think any of the series that aired on Sat mornings were based on manga at all which is pretty interesting to consider. Most of the toonami stuff were the things that Viz carried in their shounen jump anthology, or stuff that would be considered the teen demographic in Japan.

Though one thing we have to keep in mind is that nowadays even in Japan anime is seen as 'other'. Hence the lower episode counts and graveyard shift time slots. Manga is mostly acceptable and accessible to plenty, and at one point anime was made to be this way too, but now not so much. We're actually more similar in regards to how we treat comic books and cartoons than different IMO.

Fair point. In a way it's understandable, with all the shows of less than... savoury levels of fanservice and such. I guess my distance to it all now makes it seem more extreme nowadays. That and the ill comparison to, say, Naruto and One Piece's Japanese air times.

It seems a lot of the stuff being animated nowadays are targeted to one audience usually. Now I don't want to marginalize either the fans or the companies that create anime, but they (the animators) need to keep the lights on, eat, etc, while the fans have to be choosy (somewhat) for the same reasons due to crappy economy woes. If less than savory levels of fanservice
get them to buy, and companies can fulfill their bottom lines then...

On topic, One piece is essentially the country's darling so it makes sense it's on at a highly visible time. Naruto's on Thursday's at 6 which is weird for it, but normal for TV Tokyo I think.

so i guess Bleach ( or at least it's anime ) is still going strong there though i don't know if these are good rating or what, i'm used to following ratings of my favorite tv shows but i don't know what to expect for anime series.
If I ain't mistaken, Bleach had set a new record for that time slot or something when it got 1.3 million viewers at one point.

Not a good idea to post official scans. Keep that in mind.

Cool! We have the same tastes. Haikyuu!!, Saiki and World Trigger are my top 3 favorite series in Jump right now. I would like to read the whole interview too.

Maybe because he's from Italy and well, he can't...
Well, isn't he still able to buy those since it is from online?

If it was a physical magazine, then I understand. But, for the online.......

Why don't you buy the ESJ in order to see the whole interview?
Well for me personally, I'm not going to pay for it since only 2 of them I consider worth paying for and that's not nearly enough for the cost of a subscription.

Afaik they're blocked so that only people in certain countries can buy it, I once tried and I think it required you to give a physical address in the country and some other things

Oh, that's how it works? I don't have much interest on ESJ, so I didn't know how it worked.

Well, then you should wait for someone who is very generous enough to pay for that issue and willing to upload the whole interview in here. :p

Is there any site that gives the initial print numbers of upcoming volumes? Or something?
