i don't get this trend at all

why does the mc have to die & reincarnated as something else? why can't the manga just start with a mc as a hero, slime, goblin or whatever? the story would be so much intriguing

but i guess a good story cant compete with wish fulfillment & escapism trash
There is the wish fulfillment aspect, but also it's much easier as a writer to have a character who is as unfamiliar as your audience. If your character has always been in that world, it takes more skill to gracefully introduce concepts to the reader. When the character is an outsider, he asks all the questions the reader has.

I agree with everything you said, my problem is just that it have been done so many times in so many light novels that it is becoming insufferable cliché

just because it's easy doesn't make it right, authors should be original & creative with their info dumps

Because its cool, why else?!
"Goku is an alien from planet Vegeta, but in his previous life he was a 40 years old virgin salaryman that got hit by a truck"
"Kenshiro is the rightful successor of an ancient art of hokuto shinken, but in his previous life he was a 16 y/o introvert otaku virgin who loves big boobs & died choking by a Dorito"

is dying & reincarnating making these stories cooler?

Yeah, because "great Japanese people" are the target of Shonen Jump manga.
Oh, come on.

First of all, he was arguing that characters don't have to be carbon copies of the target audience, not thatthe target audience is "great japanese people", and second as it is right now the characters are nothing like the target audience.

Most manga actually feature people whose talent is at the top of their world, even "realistic" manga. Light is supremely intelligent, Hinomaru Zumou and pretty much all battle/sports manga feature main characters at the prime of their world's physical ability. Mashiro is unrealistically skilled in art for his age, Takagi is the actual /best/ student in /all of Japan/ (without studying to add extra unrealisticness), Raku Ichijou is fucking amazing at accidentally getting girls to want his dick, the same goes for all other romance protagonists.

Basically, my point is that the characters are always uniquely great and nothing like the target audience. As it is right now, JUMP's characters are all already "great Japanese people." Purposely pathetic or average characters like Tsuna are the exception, not the rule. There is zero correlation between traits of the audience and traits of the characters, aside from the very basic age and gender. The similarities end there.

I have noticed is that the main characters of manga usually have a join between related to the audience and escapism. The main characters can have some extraordinary skills, but their other characteristics (especially the look) usually consider average.

An example that could prove this would be Raku. He was considered very attractive and very intelligent in Oneshot, but he is considered average look and average intelligence in the serialization. This was probably done in order that the audience could identify with Raku in that regard. Now, in the story, Raku attracts too many girls although he is average, this is scapism for the audience.

Every week someone gives a gift to Tabata.
I am 21 years old and I have a lot of white hair, so, relax, Shima (but please wash your hands before you draw the manga).

I actually quite liked Ultra Battle Satellite.
It was a fun pure battle manga that didn't take itself too seriously and had a really nice Yusuke esque MC.

It was too derivative.
