Ill answer but I still struggle to try to gauge level of attention paid to a series lol. I mean I guess since my reading of One Piece is just read the panels where zoro, sanji, luffy, or sabo are talking and skip everything then that is my least attention paid to a series oh same for nisekoi, read ichijou or onodera or shuu panels/chps skim the rest.

1. Haikyuu (multiple rereadings)
2. Assassination Classroon
3. World Trigger/Food Wars/Gakkyu Hotei

As we can see, this is the 5 best chapter of Nisekoi according to Jump reader.

So what the TOC has to say about those 5 chapter ?

IT'S FUCKING NOTHING

There is absolutly no correlation between all those chapter no matter the scale of measurement used.

Okay, that poll is not the most accurate thing ever and even and myself struggling to take it completely seriously (the chapter 97 is obviously the number one because of Y-san), but it's from my point of view the most unbiased link between the TOC and the actual popularity of a chapter in the Jump that we have today.

So until a new progress on the subject, their is no direct correlation between the TOC and the poll result, maybe a medium term correlation exist but that's all.
First, explain this chart because I didn't understand anything at all. :lmao
It had 5879 votes, probably from people who like the series a lot and would vote in the series anyway. There are other factors that make it unrelated with the TOC, but the amount of votes and the profile of those who voted is the most important one.
Nobody noticed or even cared about the relation between TOC and the poll (me included) becuase there is no need to find a relationship, we know that it pratically doesn't exist. :p
However, as a Nisekoi fan, I can say that the chapters were well chosen, many of them would be among my favorite chapters.

I don't read Nisekoi, but isn't it possible since the chapter poll came out recently, the fans have reflected on the past arcs and changed their opinions? Like, at the time some people may not have been impressed with a chapter but after considering later chapters, they realize its good and vote for it.

Like I remember for Beelzebub, the Tissues Arc ended up being the most popular arc in the whole manga, it got a lot of hype and when the volume came out there was a lot of extra material produced for it. But if you look at the ToC, the rankings for it were worse than the Amnesia Arc. The ToC can only reflect the readers mindset for that period only. It doesn't indicate what will remain in readers' minds afterwards.

The chapters were good in themselves, all of them. Except chapter 98, all of them were final of arc. My personal opinion is that any future chapter would change the perspective, they were good since the beginning.

IIRC, Tissue arc had the best positions for Beelzebub since I started to see TOC, top 5 most of the time. o.õ

Now that Nisekoi went out in English, I could read the comments about the poll. Y-san sent 800 votes this time and put Marika in first place, if it were him, she would be in 6th. :p
This time it was a Mali-in Vote Ballot, the person has to send a ticket that comes with the WSJ, which means that either he bought 800 WSJs or he asked to everybody he knows the ticket. Both options are hard! He may be from MarikaTeam, but I respect him deeply. He is a true fan of this series. :nod

I really do like all four new series, but my favorites would be Kagamigami and Black Clover. I really hope at least one survives and Viz picks it up. I guess I understand waiting to see which will be at all successful, and until the Naruto spin off ends. But I honestly hope it's not that long.

Selfishly, I hope Jump readers don't vote for the Naruto mini, rather vote for ongoing series. #kagamigami #blackclover #cyborgroggy #ubs.

If they really had no capacity to add more, I doubt they would have even did this initiative let alone even offering people the choice of these new four. Are we sure that naruto continuation would really...subtract from their unstated quota, they already had naruto. Seems like a question people similarly offered up when HxH was coming back

If you read each issue of ESJ carefully, they never outright said readers had a choice of what they wanted added to the magazine, they merely said to say what you think about them in the survey. This round, they never said to vote for what ends up in the magazine either. If you read the comments from the editors, they've indicated the same.

The purpose of "Jump Starts" is to give readers a sample of what's new in Japan's magazine with no guarantee of any of them being continued, so their supposed capacity makes no difference. It's a tease and punch in the face to readers that end up liking something that doesn't get picked up, but this is the way it ended up being.

They'll be at Anime Boston, so maybe they will say something then.

Its only a punch in the face if nothing is added. It was never said anything would be added immediately, Gakkyu Hotei seems to be the only immediate addition, with Hi-Fi Cluster added weeks later. Its not like they said nothing will be offered in the next two, three, or even four weeks. I dont see why people are in panic mode or ultra critical mode at this point in time.

I can't understand the table! What is the C0, C1, C2, C3? What is the 1 to 20-rank?
The "1-rank, 2-rank, 3-rank..." is the calculation method. As you can, the column "TOC and "1-Rank" have exactly the same data meaning that "1-Rank" is the rank that had the series in the magazine during the week of the publication of chapter. Here is an exemple: The chapter 97 was release in the WSJ 49 and that week Nisekoi was ranked 10th.

The "2-Rank" and up use the same logic but with an increment of 1 for the magazine Number. Here is an exemple: 2-Rank use the Nisekoi rank of the WSJ 50, 3-Rank use the Nisekoi rank of the WSJ 51, 4-Rank use the Nisekoi rank of the WSJ 51...

In the end, I wanted to see the ranking up to 20 TOC of the five best chapter according to the WSJ readership/Nisekoi hardcore fanbase to see there was a week where all the 5 chapter were highly ranked but that was proved to be negative.

As for the meaning of "C0, C1, C2, C3 and C4" is just the color page and their ranking.
C0 = The Lead color page.
C1 = The first color page after the lead one.
C2 = The second color page after the lead one.
C3 = The third color page after the lead one.
C4 = The forth color page after the lead one.
It's as simple as that

So, my chart was a little bit too cryptic so I'm sorry about that

It's a punch in the face if there's series you actually wanted to read and it doesn't get picked up. A lot of people don't care, but there were some disgruntled ESJ readers when Judos wasn't picked up. Hi Fi Cluster was added in the issue immediately after the last Jump Start preview at the time, Eldlive, ended, it was not weeks.

Considering their editor in chief actually said that ESJ was pretty much full for their current budget, it makes one wonder.

Look at how long it took for them to add Shokugeki no Soma and even My Hero Academia. Soma replaced Naruto and HeroAca replaced Hi Fi. Notice that both were added in only after space was made, even though they were highly requested literally everywhere.

I think the budget issue has a few issues with it to. First is it budget in terms of licensing and royalties or is it production costs? Second what if a series is from a writer they already have a series of, is it going to cost more than a series for a writer theyve never had? How could we assess the budget for Naruto continuation, I would find it odd if they have to give a ton of more money to JPN considering they currently already pay for Naruto. Or even for more budget, does a continuation or putting in a series they are already releasing the books of (Food Wars, Hero Academia, DBZ Full Colour, or in All You Need Is Kills case, a manga which had already been planned for worldwide simultaneous release (digitally in America)) cost equal to something like a new series? Would putting Assassination Classroom in this incur as much cost as putting in a new series? What if a new series is also from a writer of someone they already have contract with (Kamigami(sp) or Gakkyu Hotei)? Probably the most questionable thing to budget issue is why embark on an initiative to put in four series at three weeks each, if money was a constraining factor, that suggests to people that they could add at least one more series to the line up (3 x 4 = 12 chps)

I dont know if the replacement theory is sound, if a series is only added after one ends, how did the magazine increase in size. Would monthly series and one shots and miniseries [Jaco][All You Need Is Kill] be included in this size replacement theory? When HxH arrived for that brief serialization, what did it replace? Or in your Food Wars and Hero Academia case, then what did Gakkyu Hotei replace?

For starters, no one will ever know the exact specifics for their contracts unless they actually work with Shueisha or which ever company. Asking to know that is practically asking to read their contracts. Only they will know how the royalties regarding the Jump Starts work.

The only time ESJ really grew was in the period following the move to simultaneous release.

Maybe you should read the ESJ comments because there was a guy in there that noted what ended and possibly what replaced what. If I recall, he essentially lumped all manga together, so a monthly could replace a weekly. He pointed out that there were a couple manga that looked like they didn't look like they replaced anything. I think it was Hunter x Hunter, All You Need is Kill, and Gakkyu Hotei now? I would have to dig to find it.

Just about everything else, followed a fairly set pattern, where a new manga would start after one ended.

Viz is owned by Shueisha and Shogakukan, so there shouldn't exist any licenses and royalties in question.

The only costs a series should have in Viz Weekly Shonen Jump is the translator(and other staff if there is more) and marketing. If the series has physical volumes it would be the print cost as well. And also an increase cost in the servers(keeping the magazine issues with a given limit in pages will certainly save a lot of money later).

A US licensing company being owned by a Japanese publisher doesn't just make the licensing fees magically disappear. The author is still expecting to be paid, and Shueisha isn't just going to cover that out of the goodness of their hearts. All the ownership does is give them exclusivity, they still have to pay for things.
