It doesn't really look like minimalism though. It pretty much just looks like he didn't have time to draw a background, or couldn't think of a good one. If you draw a portrait taking up most of the page and call it minimalism?
Yeah, I like HZ a lot, but I really doubt it would get an anime. It said it itself that sumo doesn't have much of an appeal with the youth anymore. The character designs aren't the most appealing either.
That's exactly what I was arguing, the problem has nothing to do with the cover not conveying the content but the fact that the aesthetics are all over the place so you don't really know what to expect which is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on what type of cover from him do you like.
Actually there is a definitive style that separates an American style comic from a European and a Japanese one . For western comics, it makes sense that comic books tends to be varying levels of detail and quality as still images or frame by frame pictures because western artists would have just used the western classical art experience gained in school for their illustrations so when you see a cover it feels more like its trying to sell you on that particular issue than trying to convey what to expect .
Well that's my exact argument. American Superhero comics don't ever tend to follow one aesthetic. Sometime an superhero series will have a a cluttered cover with characters all over the place.
The next issue may have a cover with a close up of one character.
Then the next cover may be a minimal cover with the characters standing in a completely white background.
Then the next cover could be a close up of 2 characters talking with word bubbles on the cover.
I'm saying that I feel like Horikoshi's cover being completely different and all over the place could be self aware and purposeful.

Bottom line MHA is really hit or miss on volume covers.
Hori despite being literally a classically trained artist (he went to a pretty good art school in Japan and his majors were in painting and 2d printed art) is really bad at working with CYMK. The way he likes to color and the particular colors he uses all get murdered by CYMK printing- especially his blues. Thank God he realized this and his color pages improved greatly as a result by his volume covers are still not consistent.
Himomaru Sumo trailing on makes it seem pretty obvious an anime is in the works and just yet to be announced.
Shueshia is a company looking for profit and there's no way they wouldn't have ended at the point it's at with the sales it gets unless they think there's a chance for a boost.

Totally agreed (Missed your comments Rica!). I wanted zumou to end but not anymore. Now I want production IG to get it's shit together and just announce the anime already...
Can we move already from the lame MHA cover subject? It's plain bad guys, come on.
Nothing real, just fan daydreaming here but it would be neat to get a cover with Hinomaru, Kimetsu, Yuragi, and Neverland all getting anime announcements at the same time.
