Since we're talking about Jojo now, I done I quick bit of maths and One Piece should overtake it in total chapter count in about 2 years (taking Oda's frequent breaks these days into account).

Sure Jojo left the magazine with less chapters than one piece currently has and monthly chapters are a lot longer but I just find it kind of interesting that One Piece still technically doesn't have the second highest chapter number of a wsj series yet.

Dat bait. How the hell is 300k per volume bad? Lol, bait aside there's people who actually believe that selling around 300k is bad. It's good, not every series can be a million copies per volume seller.
Speaking of JoJo, i am reading part 6 (stone ocean) at the moment right now and i have to say/ask:

Araki chose the wrong magazine to publish this in. It should have been in Ultra Jump from the start.

Did it get the Jump's almighty axe at the end? Looking at the ranking it seems likely.
I disagree. After part 6, the story is a different timeline. There's no connections from part 7 & onward to part 1-6. It was fine in WSJ. Yes, part 7 and onward had to be in Ultra Jump and it did improve Araki's writing as it prob gave him more freedom. Downside is that it's monthly.

I don't think it got axed. He said in interview he wanted to end it at part 6 because everything got so overpowered at that point. Also, remember that part 7 still started in WSJ. Yep, JoJo's rankings was all over the place which makes me wonder why people think that parts like part 5 is the most popular. It had 10 million sales for part 5 I think which is a lot but I dont see how its the most popular.

Either way Im hyped for part 5 anime. If the rumors of part 5 being the most popular part in Japan is true then maybe we can see an increase in sales. (more than 10k hopefully)

Steel Ball Run was meant to be an entirely new series at first wasn't it? It wasn't officially jojo part 7 until later on.

It is an entirely new series. Doesn't oricon (sales) call it just as SBR as oppose to Jojo part 7? I just call it as part 7 since Im used to it.

Yep and its pretty obvious that Araki changed his mind and integrated it into the Jojo canon after the fifth volume hence why Johnny went from being a sidekick to a full fledge main character.

Well Part 8 is just called Jojolion despite it being officially part of the canon from the get go so it doesn't really matter if the moniker "JJBA" is not included.

The volume numbers restarted, but Jojolion has had JJBA Part 8 in its name since it started. Even Stone Ocean is technically a separate series from the first five, the numbering restarted then too.

What's the point of this discussion? Didn't Araki himself said that everything is "Jojo"? I'm lost here.

Every magazine would gladly take in the series that sells 50k in Jump and are discarded. Shonen Jump average is pretty high and I think it is decreasing a lot lately with the end of big series... When One Piece ends, the average sales of the magazine will be around 300k...

Its not that big series ending is causing a drop, its that most of the new series simply don't have enough appeal with readers to motivate them to buy the volumes. That combined with a shift in industry format from paper to digital also leads to the drop we are seeing. As of now, we have no idea on digital sales, just that total digital volume/magazine etc, sales is increasing steadily.

Do you think any currently running series could outlive One Piece?

It really depends on Oda and how long he wants to drag out the coming arcs because we all know at this point One Piece may as well be un-ranked every week so the likely hood of it receiving the axe is minuscule. If you believe what Oda said that One Piece is more then 60% done then it's possible but unlikely.

No. There will be no series like One Piece ever again. One Piece itself couldn't beat One Piece if it were released now. XD
One Piece is a remnant from another era.

Only one I can see maybe still being around when one piece ends is Black Clover depending on where the story goes. If it stays focused on the eye of the midnight sun and the diamond kingdom as enemies the whole time it'll probably be a 300 or so chapters series but if it the current stuff is only the first saga and we get full ones for Hearts and Spades (as well as possibly going further afield like Yami's homeland) I can see it being a 10 year series.

I guess the gag stuff could last that long due to the nature of them being gag series but otherwise

- Gintama and Zumou will end this year
- Academia feels like it's building facepalm up as the end villain and I can't see the series drawing out the confrontation for more than 200 more chapters at the most
- World Trigger's rank wars have maybe 40 chapters left and the next arc after it could very easily be the last one (it just depends on Ashihara being well enough to return soon and not becoming another Togashi)
- Haikyuu's on it's final stretch (granted that final stretch might take another 200 chapters depending on how long the matches last but that's still nowhere close to outliving one piece)
- Souma's wrapping up all the main plots with the current arc and will likely end before the 300 mark
- Yuragi's a romcom and they never last too long in jump
- Kimetsu's story structure is pretty well set out now so unless there's some massive plot twist later on it'll probably be a 300 chapter thing at the most

and the only other non-gag ranked series is Neverland which we can't really make a real comment on until we see where the story will go next

Haikyuu could keep going until end of third year. They're hyping up Date Tech a lot, so it would be stupid if everything ended in these current nationals. It's not like the team is aiming to be #1, they've already succeeded in their goal. Plus Hinata and Kageyama are still at the starting line of their potential, which was made obvious last chapter. I reckon they'll lose against Little Giants team, third years leave and they proceed to the next year.

I could easily see it doing a Diamond no Ace kinda thing.

The whole series has been building up to the big Nekoma match at the nationals finals, they aren't just going to lose to some random just introduced team and repeat the whole series up to this point with half the cast gone.

I have to disagree with you on this one. I really can't see them going past this first year considering that they have been building up to the nationals the entire series. It would cheapen the hype if they had another year of it. Also, if they continued past this first year, the three 3rd years would graduate and it wouldn't feel the same without them (especially since Asahi is the ace of the team). Also, Furudate himself seems like he's getting tired of drawing the series with how the art quality has slipped. Or maybe he knows that people will buy it either way so he can slack a bit. The way is see it panning out is that they will probably lose at nationals, then the third years will graduate, end.

Not many mangakas have the balls to go for Diamond no Ace/Yowapedal route. I think they will win the spring championship, third years graduate, and the epilogue of new students.
