Black Clover doesn't really feel like an adventure series to me, especially when compared to One Piece. How many different places have they gone to? The dungeon and the underwater temple? Really it's been a lot of invasions from rival kingdoms for whatever reason. In 100 chapters not much adventure has been going on.

If you compare the number of chapters, probably BC characters went to a whole lot more places than One Piece ones.

There's no way BC is not an adventure series...

Black Clover can be classified as a adventure series but it didn't really feel like one. I can probably attribute this to the lack of an overarching goal or at the very least relevant goals. One Piece always keeps the focus on, well, finding the One Piece. Fullmetal Alchemist is focused on the brothers finding a way to restore their bodies. Hunter x Hunter focuses on Gon's struggles to become a Hunter. In all of these adventure stories, a goal and motivation is clearly established and the characters actively work towards those goals as part of their adventure.

Black Clover is focused on Asta trying to become Sorcery Emperor but the execution falls flat because despite all of the missions he's been on it mostly feels like Asta and the Black Bulls are just dicking around instead of making progress towards any actual goals. Yeah they power up throughout the story but it doesn't really relate to whatever goal they set up for themselves with the possible exception of Noelle who gained the power and confidence she craved.

Doesn't really help that character motivation seemed to be a secondary concern for Tabata when writing this series.

Black Clover never felt like an adventure series to me, feels like they just go on short missions and get invaded all the time

One Piece, HxH, Kimetsu and Dr.Stone feel like adventure series to me from the current lineup

Would we also classify Naruto as adventure? Cause Black Clover feels very similar. Where they just leave base for a mission and come back. Doesn't feel like it has the same sense of adventure that One Piece and Hunter X Hunter has

Yet only 2 of those were actual adventure arcs: the dungeon and the underwater temple. The forest could have been an adventure arc if there wasn't one of the many invasions as soon as they got there. Just going somewhere doesn't make it an adventure series. Actually exploring the places the characters go to and interacting with the people who are there make it an adventure series. Black Clover having two somewhat decent adventure arcs doesn't make it an adventure series.

I'd also say somewhat decent is a reach.

I'm not sure if Naruto can be classified as adventure. Early on it kind of was an adventure series with him going on missions but a lot more happened at the village than elsewhere. Then in the later half Naruto was all over the place hardly ever returning to the village if I remember correctly.

Its obvious that we can't compare Black Clover with One Piece in any way if we want to talk about quality...

Even so what is "adventure" to you guys? A series of endeavours to achieve a goal? Because if that's the case One Piece and Black Clover are pretty much the same.

In all Black Clover arcs there is an specific objective:

Heal Asta's arms, protect the kingdom against invasions, conquering a dungeon, to obtain the magic gems, etc.

I said it before. Black Clover is a GLORIFIED TEMPLATE of a shonen. You could make an RPG game based on it and I bet it will be better than the manga. In fact, the action and magic can be easily replicated in an RPG game. You can write a novel, a spin-off, whatever, and it will be better than the manga for sure.

Yeah, Black Clover doesn´t have neither an overarching goal, not at least an overarching goal for each of its characters(thing that One Piece definetely has). We´re just seeing the Black Bulls dicking around, navigating places with no purpose whatsoever. I deny that Asta becoming the Sorcerer King is an overarching goal, because nothing that has happened so far in the series feels relevant to that goal. It´s like the goal is there, but there´s nothing conducting to it.

Adventure manga is going from point A to point B, with detour in the way.

WSJ Manga that I read and would classify as an adventure manga or at least adventure part:

Kid Goku's story in Dragonball

JoJo part 2,3,5

One Piece

~Naruto at least up until the Zabuza's arc. then the first arc of Shippuden.

Houshin Engi

Bleach sorta count in Hueco Mundo and Soul Society?

I haven't finish these but I also classify them as adventure: Hotoko no Ken, Hunter x Hunter, Dragon Quest
-----
Non Jump example: FMA, Mahou Sensei Negima second half, Inuyasha.

To me the best examples of adventure series are Hunter x Hunter, One Piece & Toriko.

Why did you leave out the other parts of JoJo?

Bandai Namco is the publisher so not really Toei related. I'm not sure if it's Shuiesha or Bandai Namco make decision on which game develop company will make the game. But if they let CyberConnect2 (the Naruto Storm fighting series developer) makes One Piece Burning Blood then it would be a fantastic fighting game and series. Instead, they give it to the same developer company who failed miserably on J Star Victory -.-. Spike Chunsoft is specialized in RPG (Dragonquest series, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series) not Fighting games :fail. Such a shame too.

Just my rant, I'll stop now before we go off-topic.
Imo
One piece needs to be made into a RPG like what treasure cruise. But u know better and all.

Op aint like naruto. Not everyone has the same source of power. Like people do in naruto
Plus some crew members have the powers they got because of their roles in crew (usopp and sniper, Nami and navigator) which i think is feat that RPG has(dk just guessin on if they do)

Why did you leave out the other parts of JoJo?
The entire of part 4 is in a town, and majority of part 6 is in a prison? I don't consider part 1 an adventure manga either.

I also don't consider Steel Ball Run part of WSJ anymore, but it is an adventure manga. Haven't read part 8.

On the topic of adventure genre I agree with EmDee's definition of it

to me it isn't about going from point A to point B, but about creative new worlds and how the cast of characters interact with that

so I would consider manga like World Trigger and Naruto as adventure manga

but wouldn't consider bc as one, they went to the underwater temple and the dungeon and immediately started fighting and when the fight ended they left

Anyone read Kuromori Climb yet?
just wait until Monday man, it's made by 2 rookies, no group will pick this up, at least not this early, they have no reason to

about time, the volumes have been out in Chinese for ages

speaking of which, they haven't added any new manga to Plus from their Chinese partner for a while now

Chronos Ruler is the only manhua on the site now, they gave Daisaiyuuki Bokuhi Seiden an original ending (it's still ongoing in China) and Gunjou no Magmel have been on hiatus for ever

they published The Smiles manhua oneshot not too long ago so I don't think their deal ran out
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---
on a related note

recently, Magmel author uploaded pics of himself drawing a name on 4/4 so hiatus over soon?
