I didn't say don't compare only Togashi because he's special

I'm saying it generally, don't compare 2 different people period

everyone is different, we have different dna, different genes, different background, different circumstances etc..

it doesn't make any sense
Yep, everybody is a special snowflake now!

Everybody is different, we should also not have exams with grades, because it compares people intelligence, it doesn't make any sense.
Job Yearly Evaluation should also not exist, because it obviously doesn't make any sense.

The concept of comparison is ludicrous, everything is different from everything: different background, different circumstances etc...

This is nirvana, a total revelation. Civilizations all throughout time, and even in the animal kingdom, have being based and constructed in the base of a stupid nonsensical concept as COMPARISON.

Thank you Mammo you really opened my mind.

At this point I just want some closure or accountability instead of waiting for consistent chapters like the second coming of Christ. Either rip off the bandage now and announce that he has no plans to finish the series and just end the series like YYH or commit to a schedule of some sort so people can stop bitching and moaning about it and give everybody at least some peace of mind

that's the point I'm poorly trying to make

when students take the same test do all of them get the same grade?
when hr managers gives job assessments do all employees get the same evaluation?

people were given the exact same job and performed at different levels, that's the ultimate proof that different people have different skills and attributes
why except person A to do what person B did? it doesn't make sense to me

Do you think dropping one volume every two years makes him THAT much of a profit? Yes one volume probably makes him a good amount of money. But he's likely still collecting royalties and could likely live comfortable if he never released another HxH chapter. Releasing 1 volume every now and then probably doesn't give a significant amount in comparison to what him and his wife (likely) already have.

Also. By that "He wants money" logic, wouldn't it make more sense for him to release more volumes in one year? If he was truely able to release way more content than he already is and was that desperate to make a living, why wouldn't he release enough content for 2 or 3 volumes every time he comes back?
He receives around 10-15% royalties for every PRINTED copy, veteran and famous authors receive more royalties than newbies so let's consider he receives the 15%(if not more, taking in consideration that he can go for years without work is very possible he was able to get a deal where he gets even more royalties).
Each volume costs around 420 yen, 3.9 dollars. So he receives 0.59 dollars per book. HxH last volume printed 1.6 Million copies. So he earned 936,000 dollars for that.

About the chapters in the Magazine, an author can go from 150 to 500 dollars per page(yep, Kubo received around 500 dollars for "The Heart"), so assuming every chapter had an average of 15 pages(not gonna go count!) so 11 more chapters(the amount he did the last time he came), it makes 5,500 dollars.

That means in total he made at least 941,1500 dollars. Around 60k dollars to 1 Million dollars mark!
Divide that for 2 years and 14 monhts(let's count the christmas and big holiday salaries) and you get 33.625 dollars per month.
Is unfortunate to say but his brief return brought him for 2 years, more money monthly than what I do in an entire year.

What are you talking about? You said it shouldn't exist a comparison. Is because a comparison exist that you can see and say that somebody is doing horrible and other person is doing fantastically. So you find a measurement of what is acceptable, and by knowing that you know that is totally unacceptable to say that the reason somebody doesn't work is because at 40 years he is to old.

We have Toriyama working for 15 years without stopping and doing 2 of the biggest series ever, and he himself says that he will stop working because he is Lazy, and he in fact his.
But on the other side we have another person that gives up after 4 years, returns with a privileged working schedule, gives up again after 2 years, return a 3rd time, and spends more time not doing anything than doing something, for 19 years. And for that guy the argument is "people are different".

Seriously! Are we reaching the level of ridiculous where every normal working person is a Super Hero, while Togashi is the normal one.

I never said Togashi is normal or that everybody else is a super hero

I'm merely saying people are different, it's irrelevant to say Person A did this and Person B did that

they're not the person in question so what they did/do doesn't matter

You're flip-floping! So comparison matters or not? Please be consistent. You can't change what you say for convenience. So comparing makes sense and is relevant to say Person A did this and Person B did that, or comparing makes no sense and what a person do differently than other person doesn't matter?

Or you should grade people in school and make people that are above a grade pass year while others that do below fail, Or you should just let everybody pass/fail independent of their differences.

The same for a Job, you should give promotions dependent of what they do comparatively, or you should just give(or not) promotion to everybody independently of their achievement.

I never said he didn't make a good deal of money off the volumes. I said he's not desperate for money where he absolutely NEEDS money. Like I said, if he was really THAT greedy for money, and was capable of making chapters through year, why wouldn't he go for making as much money as possible? Why only make 1 volume? Why not make 35 chapters instead of 10 chapters so he can get more money from Jump and more money from volumes selling? The logic of him only coming because cause he wants to get paid makes no sense, because without the hiatus he could easily be making WAY more money. If he wants money THAT bad why come back for a measly 1 Million a year, when he could easily come back for like double, triple or quadruple that if he worked slightly longer?

Your view on life is completely flawed. You can't tell somebody what they are and aren't physically able to do. You can't tell somebody what limits they have and don't have when they say they have health issues. If Billy the Mailman broke his leg, but is still delivers mail, that doesn't mean that Jonathan the Mailman who also broke his leg should be expected to be able to do the same thing. They're different people.

I don't get why you see it as "taking up for a snowflake"? It's has more to do with, us not knowing how severe if his issues are. If you were his boss and went over his house right now, and first thing you hear when you get in is him genuinely screaming in agony and struggling to leave his bed, are you going to scold him and force him to go to work? Maybe his issues aren't that severe, but we don't know if he's lying about them are not, and we have no reason to believe he is. However, you and a ton of other HxH fans are treating something that's a very serious health issue for many ppl, especially when they're older in age, like its a common cold.

what do you think?

You people should stop comparing Togashi to Akimoto, Aoyama, Morikawa, Itagaki, Kariya, Mashima insert name here...

I'm consistent, I'm not flipflopping nor did change what I said
on the other hand you changed what I said 3 times now
you claimed:
1-I said no one should be compared to Togashi because he's a special snowflake (I didn't)
2-I said Togashi is normal and everyone else is a super hero (I didn't)
3-now you're accusing me of flipflopping (I didn't)

Is unfortunate to say but his brief return brought him for 2 years, more money monthly than what I do in an entire year.
and what's your problem here anyway? why is it "unfortunate"?
how is it unfortunate that a creator is making money? did he steal the money? did he force people to pay 4 his products?is him making money hurt any one in any way?

:hi

So you're only really able of thinking about one possibility, and obviously that possibility is one that makes no sense. You won the argument. NOPE!
What about if he is lazy and wants to work as little as possible, but still wants to receive a significant amount of money? How about doing 1 volume every 2 years? Wouldn't that work? Yep, it would.
Why doesn't he do more, it gives more money! He is lazy, and he doesn't really need or care about more money.

You're able to write. Oh, :O, I just said what you're physically able to do.
Things here are reaching a disturbingly level of stupidity. His like you don't live in reality, but wonderland. Is like it doesn't exist metrics in our world. Is like when a parent sees is young child unable to speak/write/read/walk or something else he doesn't goes to a doctor or specialist and asks what is wrong with his kid.

Is not about if Jonathan is expected to be able to do the same thing, but the fact that he can! Everybody is different still most things other person can do in a given situation you can also do it in that situation. Is simple excuses if you say you can't in that same situation.

What has anything to do with us knowing how severe his issues are? There is no way a person has such a severe issue that makes him lose decades of work and still keep working.
If you knew about back pain issues, you would know you're doing an amazing huge disservice to people that suffer from those kind of problems and handle it everyday, with excusing Togashi for it. Ask yourself why in the 16 years of HxH Togashi never made surgery for it? And why when he did it, he stop working for 2 years and why right after some months he returned to what he did before not having the surgery? And do you really believe that the recover of a back surgery is 2 years? Are you comparing a back pain surgery with becoming paraplegic? And the Rehabilitation for that is around half a year.
If you're interested, for really serious back surgery the recovery(and that means recovery of pain, not of being able to do any kind of work) is around 1 to 3 months. To a "Special" person you could give 6 months(The same as paraplegic surgery). but anywhere close to 2 years? Please.
Ah, I know, people are different so one can be decades recovering, right.

If I was his Boss and he was with such a degree of pain or health issues, I would make him immediately take the health procedures to get better fast. And after seeing that wouldn't be possible I would terminate his contract(and so paying the due advance money) and guide him to file for disable aid, or because he is already rich he doesn't need the aid.

"We don't have any reason to believe he is lying", you're funny, because most of wwhat you're talking didn't even came from the mouth of Togashi or Shueisha, but your imagination. The only thing said by Shueisha, is that the 2014 hiatus started with a back pain surgery. The fact that back pain had anything to do with 7 years before that point(assuming it started in 2006), and not to go to the more ridiculous arguments about it existing since YYH, so 19 years before. Is totally a ridiculous assumption and excuse.

The "Older" argument. LOL. If a person from 40-50 years is a older person what about a 70-80 years old, with 30 years more? If you don't know 40 years is middle age. You know, that time where is a men's stereotype for him to get an identity crisis and start living like a youngster, go into adventures and after way younger girls!

I'm sorry but I'm not buying that Togashi's health issues are as severe as to justify missing 11 out of 19 years of serialisation. Ask yourself this: does it not seem strange that Togashi's latest return conveniently ended in him releasing the perfect amount of chapters for a future release of volume 34. You've heard it here first: 2018 return with volume 34 being released within two months of his first chapter back. To me it's clear that Togashi does not care about making manga anymore but Shueisha just don't want to get rid of him and thus his current release "plan" was born. Thankfully for me Hunter x Hunter ended at chapter 340 and I'm so glad I have not touched the manga since.

Hunter x Hunter ended for me in the Chimera Ants arc when I caught up with it and found out that I was reading a dead series. I remember that it was not that great anyway and I didn't want to reread the entire thing when Togashi decides to release something.

What bothers me is that nobody is doing anything to stop this bad example from happening. Really, Japan is blessed for its culture where people has a strong sense of responsibility. If it were here in Brazil the other authors would be questioning "why not me as well?", the magazine would have a rebellion in its hands with everybody doing their job when they want to.

Okay. I don't know if you ever met someone with back problem or met ever worked a heavy lifting job where you have to avoid back issues.
Any older gentleman will tell you "once you ruin your back, you don't get it back". There is no cure for back pain, only treatment. Once you start having severe back pain IT DOESN'T GO AWAY, even with surgery. If you believe other wise you've either never expierced back pain or met anyone with severe back pain.
And Not working through back issues is not an insult on ppl who work with back issues. For one thing those ppl who do are probably in the position where they NEED to work to survive. If you asked to same ppl "if you had the money to spend most of your days resting instead of working through you health issues and pain" their immediate response is likely going to be "HELL YEAH". Togashi just happens to be in that position.

You're idea of how society should run is practically a dictatorship. And again. If we are talking about a a Construction job, or a and kind of job with hard labor, than yes you have an argument. If we're talking about a doctor, or a police officer, or a accountant, than yes, your health issues is no excuse. These are jobs where you need complete the task or quit.

But we're talking about a freaking comic book artist here. If the man is in the position where he has the leeway and popularity to take a break because of the health issues he claims to has, why shouldn't he? Who's going to die because he's not making HxH? Who's being hurt by no new HxH content? This is an entertainment career.

I've pointed out many times that YES, this all could be him being just exaggerating his health issues. But I don't know that and you don't know that. I don't get what's why it's so hard to grasp the idea that if you don't personally know the guy you can't say he's lying or telling the truth. But in the field of entertainment I'm not going to question his the issues he claims he had. You keep bring up the amount of total years he worked like he works at an office where he needs to clock in every morning.

Lol. To me he just draws whenever he wants at the pace he likes. Like Inoue and Miura, he gets bored of doing the same thing week by week. Nothing wrong with that.

Every job is based on doing almost the same thing week after week, man... It is obvious that there is something wrong with it.
People who really like their job doesn't get bored of doing almost the same thing week after week, it is like us here talking about manga week after week, it is a pleasant hobby.

Not all people are the same, and being a mangaka in a weekly serialization can be pretty taxing, too.

Not saying that's the sole reason. Just saying we shouldn't pounce on him as if we know every little detail as to what's going on with his life. If he says has health issues, we can't necessarily call him out and say he's lying about them. And he's reached and earned the position where he can take as many breaks he wants to rest while having alleged health issues, I don't see why he can't.

I wouldn't call Inoue or Miura "like Togashi". Miura never worked in a weekly magazine. And excepting 2 times, where 1 he brought work when he got back(with gigantomakhia), he been pretty consistent, even when he changes his schedule and when he gets hiatus for working on the anime or related stuff he tells its audience.

Inoue worked so much more and so much time than Togashi ever will. He even was doing 2 weekly works at the same time. Recently he said in an interview he didn't felt he could still work regularly in any series and so he asked to quit. Yep, he asked to quit from Vagabond, but the people from Morning Magazine asked/begged for him to stay and that it didn't matter if didn't had a schedule at all. That is the recent situation of affairs about Inoue and Vagabond. I don't know about Real, but I believe he returns sometimes to do some chapters.

They are still quite far from Togashi works ethics.

People really think that the only reason Togashi isn't working is because his "back pain"?

Lol. To me he just draws whenever he wants at the pace he likes. Like Inoue and Miura, he gets bored of doing the same thing week by week. Nothing wrong with that.
He has an obligation to his fans that have been following his shit for 20 years with dedication. There's definitely something wrong with it. Just end HxH and be done with it imo

You're mixing a lot of things. The fact that his type of Job and Situation allow him to not work correctly and the fact allowance for external people to complain with reason about it.
