People really think that the only reason Togashi isn't working is because his "back pain"?
This can be only back pain or multiple reasons. No one really knows.
_____________________________________________________________
My 2 cents:
I don't know why people are so focused on this. Manga is just entertainment, something superfluous in life. The reality of HxH is this, 1 batch for year at most. If you don't like this reality, just drop HxH - simple like that. I have many friends who has dropped a lot manga for that very same reason, like Vagabond, Berserk, D.Gray-man, Beet the Vandel Buster, Bastard, Arata Kangatari, Gin no Saji, Nana etc etc

Sure will be funny when TogashI kills himself and you hacks say he was just a coward who didn't want to finish his manga.
Ive lost so much respect for a few of you. Wow.
Pre existing mental health struggles and a spinal injury destroyed my life last year and severely hampered my artistic ambitions and ability. You people are so naive to reality.

See, the thing here is, it would've been okay for him to walk away from it all. It's his choice. There's plenty of new and upcoming mangakas who are more than ready to step up to the plate.

But he hasn't. Therefore, it is not unreasonable for fans to expect a semblance of consistency from him. It was his choice to continue the game, all he has to do is own up to it.

You're mixing a lot of things. The fact that his type of Job and Situation allow him to not work correctly and the fact allowance for external people to complain with reason about it.
I don't think ppl should complain giving his reasonings. Sure he could be exaggerating or lying but we have no basis to say whether he is or not. For all we know working it could be agonizing for him to work on manga weekly.

You bring up that there are other ppl who actually have serious health issues and back problems who continue to work hard even through their health. But put into account that the average person, and even the average comic artist aren't in the position to live comfortably without working. Bills still need to be paid even if you have health issues.

So assuming Togashi actually has health issues, let me ask you this.

Let's say you're a manga artist for Jump and you have health issues that makes work more agonizing then it needs to be. However your manga series has reached a level of success where you can afford to not work, and you're allowed the leeway to work on your series whenever you feel like it. Even if you could realistic work through the pain would you

A. Continue working a weekly schedule that even young and healthy artist have difficulty maintaining

Or

B. Comfortably work at your own place, and not having to worry about your health or stressful deadlines.

I'd imagine the average person would pick B, and even a lot of manga artist in the industry if they already were living comfortably. All I'm saying if he claims to have health problems, it's not fair to just assume he's bs'ing, and criticize his method of working. If that way of working works for HIM, then so be it. Most of us would work the way we chose if given the option

Why the fuck should he walk away from his passion project. It's HIS art, not yours.

Plus. Just because we're fans doesn't mean he's owes us new chapters at the pace we want. And if he did decided to end it now, we'd get a ton of angry fans complaining about an incomplete series

Not all people are the same, and being a mangaka in a weekly serialization can be pretty taxing, too.
So there are people who likes their job, but get bored? Do you realize that it doesn't make any sense at all?
There are more dangerous job out there that the people who do them do it with pleasure. It may sound strange to you that police officers like to put their life on the line, the same for firefighters, military personnel and all that dangerous jobs, but they really do. They are willing to put their lives on the line to protect people. So don't come with this bullshit that weekly serialization is taxing, many people who really love drawing manga would pay to be in the same spot as Togashi if they could. It is all about love and passion for their job. I can see it from Hoshino who is really trying hard to keep a schedule in SQ Crown. When Oda got sick there were people saying that he wanted to draw in the hospital! Man, that's the definition of passion.

Someone mentioned Mashima and although I think his series is inferior in quality I respect the way he does his job. Yoshikawa Miki talked about her period as assistant there, it was like everybody was playing around and yet the job was done at the end of week as if by magic. xD
That's the kind of passion I'm talking about, when you are having fun even when you have to follow a routine to get the job done at the end.

Yeah, the same Hoshino who has skipped an issue in a quarterly magazine and the latest chapter was just 7 pages - again in a quarterly magazine. And No, I'm not criticizing Hoshino. But you don't know what exactly is happening with Hoshino and you don't know what exactly is happening with Togashi. You are not absolutely sure that Hoshino is really trying harder than Togashi. Depending on his condition, he may even be struggling more than she is. I don't know and neither do you. Heck, people who really love drawing manga and with great health would pay to be in the same spot as Hoshino too.

You try drawing hunched over for nearly three decades with depression and back pain.
Then you can tell TogashI that it's not that taxing and he should get back to work.
So naive.

Wayyyy too much of a OP rip-off (in terms of artstyle)..... But him being deaf perked my interest. I'm hearing impaired, so this put a little smile on my face :smile-big

On another note, is thursday's releases a double issue, or is it next week?

You're missing my point. Fact of the matter is that Togashi had a choice: Keep writing, or just walk away from it all. By choosing the former, he should damn well have expected there will be demand. HxH is Togashi's product, Jump is not the sole owner of it. By creating the series, Togashi is selling his product for fans to enjoy.

Let's stop the whole idealistic artistic debate for a second and focus on the one simple business theory:

If you have a product to sell and it gains traction, there will be demand for it. You're expected to keep up that flow of supply and demand on a consistent basis. This is Economics 101. Manga is a business in Japan. Therefore Togashi's "art" is not his own anymore once he decides to sell it.

Hardly anyone would've blamed him if he wanted to retire since way back, because the manga industry is constantly evolving, with new generations stepping up to the plate every year. Togashi is not irreplacable.

That would be me. I definitely agree about Mashima. I think his place would be a fun place for newbie mangakas just starting out and learning the ropes.

I wonder if Shimabukuro is planning on just doing oneshots for a while or if he's hoping to get a full series out of one of them. I can imagine focusing on oneshots being a lot more free since it means he can work at his own pace doing whatever kind of stories he wants for a while without worrying too much about popularity and so on, especially after spending 8 years on a battle shounen.

Who else is pumped for Jump Giga? We got Kei Monri, Fire Force ripoff, another attempt at shogi, and a bunch of cool looking oneshots.

He doesn't owe us anything. And he's in a position where he can comfortably supply his product whenever he pleases, and it'll still sell.

You think they get translated? And scans should be popping up soon, right?

I don't know if you can speak French but if you watch his youtube channel he says the oneshot and his art are inspired by his favorite author Oda

he said he competed in manga competition and the prize was to be published in Jump Plus

he won second place and he was sad but they told him Jump Plus will publish the first place winner and and second place so he's relieved

one of the judges was Watsuki (Kenshin) who told him his artstyle resembles Oda's and that he was Oda's mentor so he knows what he's talking about

Inspiration is one thing, but it honestly feels more like a blatant tracing at this point. I can tell the differences, but it's still too much Oda and not enough of his own. Welp, I can only wish for him to polish his style further over the years so he may develop his own distinctive style.

BTW, I'm gonna ask again is this week's release a double issue?

Nope, it will be funny when Togashi kills himself and you say it was is own decision and you can't judge it! Why, because opposite with any other kind of worker he was an "artist" and it was just "entertainment" that he did.

Oh, so your problem hampered your artistic ambitions and ability, but Togashi that "supposedly by you" has a similar affliction is still passionate.

And what do you think of the "fact" that you're be working decades less than other normal people, and that even if you're in a better situation financially and socially you will not be able to recover even if decades pass?

Will you excuse your failing in "artistic" life with that?

Yep, I'm naive for not giving blatant excuses for the problems in life.

The "you don't know so you can't talk about it" argument.

So if somebody kill many people one after another, a Serial Killer, can't be judged, because you don't really know his situation.

A perfect anything apologist argument. We don't want to put the blame where blame is due, so Let's play skeptical, shall we.

You are comparing an artist with health issues not drawing a comic for little children in what you consider to be a timely fashion to a serial killer. Maybe you should rethink your priorities, you clearly care way, way more than is healthy about it.
This discussion ends now, I am tired of having to read entire pages of people trying to pretend they know what they're talking about by writing walls of text in hopes that someone will actually care enough about their opinion to read the whole thing. Either continue it in the HxH forums or in PMs or in I really don't give a shit, just somewhere where it will not be my problem because I am going to start deleting these posts on sight.
