I'm not surprised because my train of thoughts is this:

once a manga have over 100+ scanlated chapters and it's not popular in the west

nothing will make it more popular not even an anime

I can't think of an example of an unpopular manga with active Edited Mangas that got popular after an anime

if anyone can please enlighten me
JoJo

Viz only has part 3 in manga form and that is out of print for many years just recently they decide to reprint part 3 in conjunction with the hardcover part 3 (why?).

I would say the 2012 make it more "mainstream" and Viz gets the license for part 1,2,3,4 despite it having 100+ volumes in Japan. Also the earlier parts have crappy scans from what i've heard. From my experience, never heard of Jojo until a few years ago with all the Jojo memes and stuffs. And back in Nam we import a bunch of WSJ tittles too.

note: specificly talking about the popularity of the West here not as a whole.

The hidden factor is very simple: there were worst series since then and we know that.
There have been two series, U19 and Poro, worse in terms of rankings and sales and both have already been cancelled. The only series left before Seishun started is Neverland. Marie has been consistently bad in rankings but it sells better and now its been axed. Shudan and Cross Account are too early to tell but rankings have been bad for both. Looking purely at this, it makes no sense to leave Seishun in unless there is some other factor we don't get from this public information.

well, technically you're right, but that's an exception to the rule since it's an old series that got popular due to an anime reboot

it doesn't really fit the context we are talking about which is new ip and active Edited Mangas

Didn't Tokyo Ghoul make several bestseller lists in the west?

Certainly...unique. The art style is very simplistic but not in a bad way. Though the dialogue had better be brilliant because I really feel that this series won't be able to pull off visual humor very well.

This is almost definitely a kodomo manga. Its literally written like it was for 4 year olds. The dialogue is almost more childish then Kemono Friends. It also throws in a huge amount of references especially actors and the like and if you're not aware of them, you'll not get it. The main girl, Amato Meme also doesn't get it. Its a parallel world called Cutopia (with root cute) where candy and the like grow off of trees. The main girl gets back to her world by strongly wishing to go back. This is almost plushie fodder. The main character is a Toy Poodle that was born from the seedling of a tomato plant. If this somehow made it, you'd definitely see this on TV Tokyo's long running daytime slot. I'm not entirely sure how long this will last but, time will tell.

iirc no one scanlated TG, the translation was tons of chapters behind Japan when the anime aired
When the anime started i remember already having more than 100 chapters scanlated.

Yeh, Lycopene is ridiculously simple to read. It basically just has a bunch of ass jokes, some references to stuff going on in Japan atm/actors and then some vulgar stuff here and there. Its the typical ‘cute going against your expectations’ series. Had a few laughs, but nothing series. It probably needs to hit more high notes if it’s going to survive, though I can easily see it appealing to a certain niche, which miht be enough for it.

Peole have spoken about SW replacing Isobe, but this series is literally the perfect type of series to do that. If it survives long enough, i could definitely see it becoming a 9 page gag manga or something.

Were any manga really 'popular in the west' before an anime?
I'm not talking mainstream that even non anime fans know it
I'm talking popular that every week tons of people would flock to talk about it
Like I already mentioned BnHA but there is OPM which have always been big

currently Neverland and Fumetsu no Anata e are pretty popular

Impressions right from Twitter. The cuteness is destroyed pretty fast, but can deceive some people like this guy mother. XD
