That's another thing Horikoshi wrote himself in a corner with. Both of them failed to get their provisional hero licenses and now they have to get sidelined for 5 to 6 months in the story, until they get another chance at the exam in march. Without a license they can't take part in internships and aren't allowed to use their quirks in dangerous situations.
Without a timeskip the only place these two can use their quirks is at the school and after everything that happened in the current Yakuza arc another school training arc won't cut it in terms of fights. But he also can't just timeskip 5 to 6 months straight to the end of the first year. It's been over 150 chapters and the school year itself is barely 5 to 6 months old.
What we, and japanese fans, desperately want/need is a simple school training arc where Deku sits down with either All might or another teacher and just spars. If All Might doesn't step in now, he's basically setting in stone that he's not growing as a teacher. There's also the possibility of an upcoming Cultural festival which can also change up some dynamics. It can go back to student interaction and growing from each other, one of the best aspects of the series.

Honestly, this shows how much an editor is necessary and how quickly a story can drop if the editor is too lenient/not doing his job. Once a series falls, its incredibly hard to get back up to the top 5. Heroaca basically cannot finish in the top 5 this year because of the placements this past month and a half. Its effectively ruined the record Heroaca was keeping and it basically came because the mangaka wanted to try something new, but struggled structuring everything so as to keep it both exciting and coherent and his editor either didn't or couldn't help keep him on track. I know its important to let the mangaka have freedom to express themselves and do what they want to but they can't just keep okaying anything and everything. To be a little harsh, this is effectively a case study on how to ruin a franchise with massive commercial potential. The series is at a record high in sales but that can very quickly drop if the story continues like this. Even if this arc is able to wrap up as properly as possible, if the next arc is the same, people will stop. People have already begun posting that they don't like where the series is going and saying they may stop or are going to stop buying the volumes after this Vol 15. The editor needs to see what went well and really capitalize as much as possible while slowly working on the weaknesses on the series. If not, this series will never get to that 1 million first printing that it had the potential to get to.

With Full Drive in, there is 5 sport series in jump currently. Do Shudan still have hope of surviving for at least a year?
I hope, ignoring RxL, all these sports series are really good. NOw if they just get a baseball manga that would last I will be please. (though no way could it be as good as Ace of Diamond).

Do you guys still think Hero Academia will get a million for its first print? Honestly I don't think it can grow much more beyond what it is at now. It would need a really good arc for it to get a noticeable boost.

Well that's quite the depressing read, but you're absolutely right. All we can do is hope for the best in the future and have faith in Horikoshi and his editor.

Digital sales will cannibalize print run numbers.

Its probably already around 700k right now seeing as Bakuman Volume 14 had a first printing of 700k and its sales look like this:

318535 (4)│432276│473225│493216│------┃*,547,792 (109)┃2011/08|バクマン。 14

Magi Volume 21 had a first printing of 660k and its sales look like this:
238886 (3)│434185│507417│548062│567134┃666,838 (*213)┃2014/04|マギ 21

This is Heroaca's current volume 15 sales:
│341780 (7)│438814│490771│522623│542079┃*,556,767 (*42)┃2017/09|僕のヒーローアカデミア 15

As of right now, its slowly growing each volume and if the backlog sales each week are any indication, it will keep growing. It was estimated to have done around 799k series total; meaning the new volume and backlog this last month. If its able to keep it interesting, it can definitely get up there.

I still see older volumes of BNH showing up on Shoseki ranking, so i think even after de second season ended, backlog sales are still good.

I think third season will help just like the second season gave another boost.

Heroaca is an immortal series like Gintama and HQ right now so I'm not worried about its position on ToC but i can't say the same about BC.

By the way how are HQ fans feeling about this arc? Its another series that got hit with low ToC positions recently. Gintama I completely understand since that last arc has been dragging for nearly two years now.

I think the editors are playing games, as Inarizakis have been a great team.

I kind of stopped listening to HQ fans after people got mad Nekoma got a set of chapters.

Gintama's average rank this year is one of the highest it had since 2012 when it begun to often appear in the bottom half of the ToC.

What I find strange is that because the plot has entered its decisive moments, I thought the editors would put the recent chapters of the series at high positions. After all, if the fans left the story because of the pace and the pauses, let's use the climax to get them back. But, no. Mirio fight, for example, was placed almost at the bottom.

They preferred to put newcomers like RxL, Dr. Stone and WNL, and series that do not even sell 100k after 3 years like Zumou and Saiki, in front of a best seller that for 3 years did not leave the top and that got a new boost with the second season.

Perhaps the positions of the beginning of the year were a lie, as icemeperor said, and now the editors simply stopped lying. Perhaps because of the author's health and his delays the series is receiving the neutral treatment of HxH and WT. But the fact that the editor-in-chief has changed and the ranking has changed as a whole in the last month, still keeps me from believing that the problem is entirely in the writing of the current arc. I don't mean that Boku no Hero is perfect and deserves the top. No. But honestly I don't its current arc has done so much wrong things to become, in terms of quality, so far from the current arcs of Neverland, Dr. Stone, Black Clover and Kimetsu.

BLack Clover has been more exciting and better written this arc than HeroAca so its understand that it would perform better than HeroAca.

I'm not saying that Boku no Hero is better, I just don't think it's done so much shit to go from second place to tenth.
