Here it's $10 because obviously Viz needs to get their money and the rest goes to Japan. Importing only goes to Japan but you have to pay for shipping which goes to Japan not the author I would say. All this is probably obvious though.
That's where I have to maybe disagree slightly with you. We don't actually know how much of the money from an English volume goes to the Japanese side. Buying a Japanese volume might contribute more overall. Importing is actually cheapear for me than buying English volumes.

I love HxH and I love Togashi. But I'm not the type of fan who thinks he's perfect, sorry. Freedom is great, but sometimes even a genius needs a little guidance. The overexplanation of the current arc (distributed to a large cast of new characters), for example, prevents me from getting emotionally invested. And knowing the author, I know he's not doing it because he needs it, but simply because he wants to.
The thing is however that most of the current editors are in their 20s and early 30s. Most of them probably grew up watching the 1999 anime and reading the manga back in elementary/middle school. It becomes incredibly hard to say anything when you look up to a person like Togashi coupled with all the plot points he throws in. Lots of people in Japan had trouble even following the Hisoka vs Chrollo fight. While everything connected properly, people had to make flowcharts, etc. to properly understand everything. I'm sure there were people in the west that also had to do similar things to properly fully grasp the battle. Its entirely possible that giving guidance on these kinds of events is outside rookie/young editors's experience and maybe skillset. There's also the fact that when you take over you're basically thrown into this huge whirlpool of events that Togashi has months to fully plan out, though he may not actually draw the chapter. His style is to "have conversations with characters and have the story play out". His method of coming up with dialogue is also rather unique as he considers its a manzai skit. Each character says something and the other character almost strikes at that. There's more that I'm leaving out but essentially, it becomes really hard to correct things in such a structured method of working. You can possibly change the meaning of certain events and that might cause an inconsistency somewhere else. One of HxH's selling points is the almost lack of inconsistencies and its coherency.

One Piece is in a similar boat. The pages have become really cluttered with sound effects and dialogue compared to Skypeia but editors may find it really hard to say anything when the mangaka is Oda, who recently on a TV program was in the top 10 most talented people in Japan according to a poll conducted by a firm/TV Station. Oda however wants to hear their opinions so that a small offset but they're still not helping him de-clutter his pages.

Another thing is that recently, editors just sit back and let the artist do almost all the heavy-lifting. Its their job to help the mangaka come up with dialogue, plot points, make things easier to understand and more coherent, etc. Heroaca is the prime example of this. This arc had at least 3 abilities that were really muddled with bad explanations which made fully understanding what they can do really difficult. If Horikoshi has the ability fleshed out but is unable to properly explain it concisely, then the editor has to step in to make it more understandable and coherent. Monji didn't do that. He may be busy with other things as well but the story has to take top priority. I honestly think that editors need to be trained more rigorously so that they're able to fully bring out a mangaka's talent.

True we don't exactly know and wow lucky you! Lol it cost me $8 to ship and $4 for the hxh vol. 34 manga. And that was obviously just in Japanese. But hey if it's better for you to keep doing that by all means lol

I totally agree. I can't read One Piece now because of that. Hopefully he will change it but probably won't anytime soon

Monji was editor of what other series besides Bakuman and MHA? I've heard that he's responsible for RxL, dunno if it's true.
The Sugita in charge of OP is the same Sugita of TPN?

More Kurapika and Leorio is better for everyone involved, even if Killua is the best character.

Oh yeah, MHA color page on the come up soon for the new arc? Somebody said it but feels like we haven't got one in awhile, although recently was the Mirio holding Eri one like 6-7 issues ago.

Yeah that was me! I get the feeling that Hori really doesn't like doing color pages given how few color pages the series had despite the fact that they were pretty bad initially but got really good after its first year when Hori got better tools to work with.

Monji was also in charge of Kuroko towards its end as seen in the SWITCH interview with Torishima as well as Kurogane. He also supposedly did Mahou Shounen X.

Black Clover 13 is back to TOP 50 in 11/12 at Oricon (even in the position 50). Also the all volumes are within 126 first positions.

Bit of a random question, but do the surveys that determine the TOC order include a section to put your age? I was just thinking that Spring Weapon and Lycopene seem like they would both be good choices for toy lines for younger children. Spring Weapon has zany distinctive character designs, while Lycopene could make a good stuffed animal line for kids. I doubt it'd ever happen, but it just seems like a merchandising opportunity

yeah he did Mahou Shounen X, unless there's a different editor named Monji

and who can forget Monji did the legendary series Demon's Plan

he have been pretty active lately, editing multiple onehots beside Mahou Shonen X

Hako no Naka no Ao: A girl with a ghost living in her cellphone goes around and free souls and help them get to the other side

Ken Tauros: a delinquent get reincarnated as a racing horse (I'm not making this up)

Gorilla Mask: boxing manga starring a sentient glove

hmmm, Golem Hearts and Imawa no Juukurou were released on the same oneshots batch

add that to the supposed Shoodan getting the cover although it's doing terribly

and it's just too suspicious of a toc
