It's what you'd expect at this point. Saiki is ending after all. Spring Weapon is doing the same, finally.

The age of comedies is over. Shueisha needs to create at least two more successful sports manga with over 50 chapters before the 2020 Summer Olympics begins.

I hope not, I don't want to see another 10 failed attempts to get a new sports manga to stay around. The last time a sports manga from a new author was successful was Hinomaru, that was at the end of May in 2014.

Failed sports manga from new authors since then:
Takujou no Ageha (Ping Pong)
Sesuji wo Pin! to: Shikakou Kyougi Dance-bu e Youkoso (Dancing) - All things considered, it had a good run, not a complete failure in my eyes.
Best Blue(Swimming)
Buddy Strike(Baseball)
Ole Golazo(Soccer)

Then they went for a safe choice, with Robot x Laserbeam, from an experienced author in the sports field, at least this should stay around and rake in easy fujo money, especially after an anime comes in two years unless Fujimaki gives up on it.

After Robot, they tried again, and guess what, more complete failures.

Looking at the patterns, it's been a while since they've tried a baseball manga.

Ehh, Fujimaki made one of the best selling mangas of the Shonen Jump History, Kurobas anime is a sucess in BD/DVD sales, action figure sales, movie sales. Nuramago was just a mid-sucess

I don't think this is a fair comparison.
Let's say it is early 2013.

I hope not, I don't want to see another 10 failed attempts to get a new battle manga to stay around. The last time a battle manga from a new author was successful was Beelzebub (I'd say Medaka Box but the author is well known outside Jump), that was at the beginning of February in 2009.

Failed battle manga from new authors since then:
Hungry Joker (scifi)
Takamagahara (delinquent comedy)
Sensei no Bulge (scifi)
Sengoku Armors (fantasy)
Magico (fantasy)- All things considered, it had a good run, not a complete failure in my eyes.
Omagadoki Dobutsen (furries)
SWOT (school?)
Metallica Metalucca (fantasy)
Lock-On (martial arts?)
Akaboshi (historical fantasy)

I think Jump should always be serializing new manga of different genres because who knows exactly what will take off and won't. Sports manga are just as important to Jump as battle manga.

Who is Sano Rokuro? there isn't any info on him, no past work for him in any magazine, no mentions in any rookies awards

since there's no chance Jump wold give a complete rookie a series, it's most likely someone using a new pen name

He did the Giga one shot with the panda in it

that isn't a oneshot, it's a miniseries, it was supposed to get a volume but never actually did, I guess Jump is making it up to him by giving him a series

he also did Nikai Bongai Barabarujura oneshot in 2016 Gold Future Cup

Well we'll see, my track record has been spotless at predicting things so I will book mark these posts and revisit them when the series is ended.

I wanted it ending so we can get Kurobas style designs in a baseball or soccer manga..

Just wait for volume 4 released. If it stangants like vol 2 and 3 i don’t think it will survive in the bottom for 7 more months.

Remember KnB had a nice increase every single volume up till vol 18 where it gets an anime and a massive boost.

Doing whatever it takes to make the magazine exciting again and popular. Lets not forget, after Gintama goes, HQ!! will effectively be the 2nd oldest series in the magazine (not counting HxH because it doesn't serialize often enough). One Piece is effectively what's holding this magazine in place. They need other pillars.
