I wonder if a female editor would of helped clean up the idea of “Kishi is sexist” or if he shows too much sexism in his script. I don’t agree with that thought... but it’s so much shit from the story that fuel this that fans have been pointing out for years.

Speaking of HZ's anime.

I've been thinking about HZ and about some anime possibilities. We know it will cover the first 17 volumes and 159 chapters of content. The fact that they straight up claimed it will cover volumes 1-17 makes me assume it will be a continuous adaptation. With a pace of around 3 chapters adapted per episode, 17 volumes would fit nicely in 48-52 episodes.

Not many studios are willing to take on such long projects any longer. Then there's also the TV network aspect and timeslots.

HZ could air in Summer in the earliest, if that were the case, it would probably be an NHK production. The problem is, NHK have way more anime announced for this year than usual, but there is speculation that NHK will expand their anime block to fit two shows. There's also the educational NHK channel and other satellite exclusive NHK channels that can have anime. NHK have a strong connection to sumo, so it would make sense to for them to fund this anime, but it isn't set in stone.

HZ could also take the place of BC when that finishes, in Fall. Would that mean Pierrot would end up doing it, that would be weird. Toei also like their long anime and if Toei do it they'll surely find somewhere to air the adaptation.

Then there's the option where the show will be adapted in 2 two cour chunks, with breaks in-between. For a high quality adaptation, this would be the most viable option and it would fit NHK's way of doing things. But the announcement for the TV anime said it will cover the first 17 volumes, so it most likely means we'll get 4 continuous cours.
I'm assuming you haven't read HZ. People have been assuming it's going to long running but I think it'll be along the lines of Ippo where it covers a lot of material in a short amount of episodes.

It doesn't need 48-52, I honestly think 2 cour is fine. Matches aren't long, its sumo after all.

I dont know if we should assume that a female editor would be a questionable content filter.

Additionally it doesn't appear that females are concerned when female characters are giving really backseat roles in popular series (for example HeroAca is apparently massively popular but people are never questioning or even concerned that female hero class characters never get any big roles at all) or that super pervs like Mineta are consistently given attention or scantily clad characters/or characters with these really odd outfits are always in the limelight.

I'm not completely up to date, but I feel like 25 episodes wouldn't be enough. I am pretty bad at estimating a good manga to anime adaptation chapter ratio, especially when it comes to sports manga. The sumo matches are very quick. With 26 episodes, the pace would be 6.1 chapters per episode, seems pretty crazy.

Also, this female editor and mangaka discussion is getting annoying. If a mangaka makes a good manga, then the gender of the person behind it doesn't matter, the end.

Shit westerners care. Japs might not. But I agree though. Funny enough, Jiro is lowkey about to get focus the next few chapters. MHA has been going the slice of life route for this volume but I can’t get too fussed up if we get focus on lesser characters.

I will say this regarding HZ and putting all that content in 2 cours, Production I.G recently pulled off the re-adaptation for Mahoujin Guruguru perfectly apparently, adapting 16 volumes of manga with only 24 episodes and this adaptation is considered one of the best anime from 2017, so I really want to watch it.

HZ could be a 12 episode anime. Could easily do 1 volume per episode.

So 1 volume per episode, only 12 episodes, but each episode will adapt one volume and it's confirmed that the anime will cover 17 volumes. Something just doesn't seem to add up.

Yeah true, sports manga can be weird but I think 2 cour is doable is the staff is competent lol. Not every episode has to have the same chapter ratio plus it's inevitable that they'll skip certain parts out like they do with all adaptations.

Well it's been done before. Ippo is a popular example. It's not impossible and IMO much better than 40+ episodes which isn't happening for a series like HZ. I would be shocked if they did 40+ episodes tbh.

I remember reading an article about Hettapi, that Kawashita loves to draw breasts and provocative poses (= fanservice). She had been doing this ever since she worked in shoujo magazines.

Reborn, despite being made by a woman and having a large female audience, treats its female characters in a very poor way. I don't know if this is the editor's or the author's fault. Or both.

It's funny (or not) that two of the most famous female authors of Jump do things we would expect from male authors.

I feel like with sumo it's especially weird. In real life the matches are incredibly fast and even the longer matches rarely reach a 35 second-1 minute length and those are the exceptions. Like all sports manga, there's buildup happening all the time, between pages and panels, the intensity and tension is crazy in HZ. Then you have the infamous anime time where 5 minutes can be stretched out to like three 24 minute episodes lol. I really don't know how the heck they'll approach the anime, it'll really come down to the studio and the staff.

Well it's been done before. Ippo is a popular example. It's not impossible and IMO much better than 40+ episodes which isn't happening for a series like HZ. I would be shocked if they did 40+ episodes tbh.
It has been done before, but rarely has it been done properly. I don't see why HZ couldn't get 4 cours if something like Twin Star Exorcists could get 4 cours as a monthly manga with like 20 chapters of content out, as questionable as that was. It depends on the producer and time block really and HZ has a lot of content to work with. And HZ is literally the Godsend that the sumo industry needs right now to make sumo appreciated by younger generations in Japan, having an anime be on air for 1 year would be pretty helpful.

So basically moral of this convo is noboooooody’sssss perfeccct. We need more Temaris or Robins, will forever think they’re the most developed and intrusive females from a big title in our generation. Hopefully Momo can join them.

> i don’t see why HZ couldn’t get 4 cours

Because 40,000 copies sold. Sad reality

Be happy that it got one in the first place. Some of you guys so stressful about cour, just relax. We don’t even know the studio yet.

Like Sharkbait said it can skip content.

To be fair, there is nothing wrong with a character being sexy.
Maybe it's just me, a paradoxon, that as a woman, I want well-written (female) characters, while as a lesbian, I like big boobs on female characters, but there is nothing wrong with female characters who are also eye candy. Bayonetta from the game Bayonetta is actually a good female character. She's sexy, knows it AND owns it and has fun with it, while having a strong personality with a goal she's persuing.
The actual problem starts when the female character is forced to be sexualize, and is even embarassed about it.
Though to be honest, Bayonetta as a character is a topic of many heated debates, it's mostly my opinion here.

And that's what the anime is for, to boost the sales. The reality isn't that sad for HZ, it survived for over 3 years which is a colossal achievement for WSJ serializations and it's even getting an anime.

I'm not that into content skipping. People were saying the manga would end for a while, if I'm not mistaken and it's still here and getting an anime, so nothing is impossible when it comes to manga from WSJ. People were saying there's no way Food Wars would get more content animated after s2 and what do you know the fourth cour is coming next season. I wouldn't be so stressed about cours if they wouldn't have announced the anime will cover 17 volumes of content.

Because its never been an issue at least one that doesn't bog down to "why isn't this female character on the front and center stage in every battle in a comic meant for little boys" versus "why is this female character treated so poorly and relegated to a shallow love interest or nagging housewife". This criticism applies to the extended cast of characters not solely female characters and this is something he's been rectifying throughout the series going through various rotation ironically enough starting from Momo to Kirishima to Aoyoma and now Jirou. Also Mineta barely even appears in the manga anymore and only serves as a walking punchline.

Food wars was like 5 times more popular than HZ. Weird to bring it up.

Aoyama in a one chapter non major moment (hes male weird to bring him up).

jirou in a non major non action non important moment doesnt seem like its addressing the shortfall of the female characters lack of importance in major arcs.same for yaoyaorozu whose only notable moment was as todorokis decoy in a training single chapter.

Hell most Shoujo manga are even more problematic than shounen manga. You talk about poor representation of female characters? Watch how your average Shoujo lead winds up marrying her rapist by the end of the story.
