Emma is cute. A female MC, finally. She just started to have spotlight now, tho. In the early arcs Ray and Norman were more relevant. She also runs away from those stereotypes I mentioned earlier, but, unfortunately, she fits into another: the perfect heroine. When Ochako fought against Bakugou, it was cool. She was was crying, bleeding, sweating, she was giving her all. I want to root for her. I root for her. GO, GURL! XD (I miss it, Horikoshi!). Anyway, this doesn't happen with Emma. And why? Because whenever there is trouble, she overcomes it with a speech, a secret plan, a special ability, a pen. It's time for the author to be less complacent with her.

So, give me more Ochakos with Emma's screentime. ;)
Yes. Emma is a textbook "strong female character" but she's not an engaging one and the least interesting character of the three. Ray and Norman pretty much stole the show from her unfortunately with Ray's whole development arc and Norman's final gambit now we're in an entirely new scenario with Emma with new characters being thrust at us and the only thing I can think is "I wish Norman and Ray were here" because we already know what the outcome is.

I gave up on reading this discussion a while ago, but we can all agree that Sakura Haruno is the best female character ever, right?

Yes. She's a prime example that perseverance will nab you a man of your dreams and lock you into a loveless marriage. Thanks Kishimoto!

This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion on here, but honestly, I don't really care about how much screentime the female characters get, and I don't expect there to be much of a female presence either. The only time I will care is if the female character I really like has too little screen time.
At the end of the day, Hero Academia, Black Clover, Reborn, etc are all shounen manga. It's only natural for the male characters to be in the spotlight. It's not like the manga needs a strong female presence to be successful.
Honestly, if that's what you're looking for in shounen manga, especially battle shounen, then you're just gonna find yourself disappointed.

So what? Anyone can have a character but if your only defense for her being a good female character is that "she gets stuff" but if its not substantial who cares and the fact that you're struggling to find what very little reliance she has in the story is hilarious in itself.
It's substantial. They're setting her up to inherit the throne over her selfish siblings.

Also Ochako had several chapters dedicated to her and even contributed in more fights than Noelle ever did.
This is blatantly untrue.

Except they didn't get written out since they both contributed in the fight against the Yakuza and the aftermath. They weren't written out.
They were written out because all "relevance" they were ever going to get is over. We will likely barely even see them again. At least not more than Mt. Lady.

I'm not even going to touch the latter point since that's just you grasping for straws.
The fact that Magne, of all characters, got killed is grasping at straws? One of the only two female characters in the whole Villain Alliance?

You literally said something that was false and then changed the subject like an idiot. And referenced something that was months ago to something that just happened recently. Good job.
I'm not calling you names so I don't know why you're calling me names. Is this really the level of discourse that you want to reduce this discussion to? What is the false thing that I said?

I'm not even sure if you're even defending Black Clover anymore
I'm not. I'm using BC to make a point about HeroAca, I couldn't care less about BC.

Despite the damning evidence that shows otherwise.
Such as their minimal involvement in the story or the fact that they're second-tier citizens compared to the male characters?

And thanks for proving my point that you don't even know what exemplifies good treatment of female characters in shounen I mean that's why you're defending Black Clover of all titles, citing that writing out a female character from the story is good thing but call it a poor treatment of female characters if they're not given panel time 24/7 and dimissing any evidence that proves otherwise. I mean you literally used Meleoleona as an example of a good female character in a shounen. Jesus Christ.
I said that she was better than a non-character like Dragon Lady.

That criticism can apply to males as well hence why its silly. Its a shounen manga for one thing and the most prominent and dominate characters are always going to be male. They're saying that somehow Hori is worse with treating female characters because they're not given as much panel time....as the main characters.
Iida and Kirishima and SUN-EATER are more "main characters" than Ochako, Momo and Tsuyu?

Emma is cute. A female MC, finally. She just started to have spotlight now, tho. In the early arcs Ray and Norman were more relevant.
Emma became the clear protagonist of Neverland since they met Mujika and Sonju, though. The chapter dedicated to her finally learning to kill living beings and coming to term with her siblings' deaths had a level of depth I doubt Deku or Asta will ever achieve.

She also runs away from those stereotypes I mentioned earlier, but, unfortunately, she fits into another: the perfect heroine.
Is Emma more perfect than your average male protagonist? This is a pretty ridiculous double standard.

When Ochako fought against Bakugou, it was cool. She was was crying, bleeding, sweating, she was giving her all. I want to root for her. I root for her. GO, GURL! XD (I miss it, Horikoshi!). Anyway, this doesn't happen with Emma. And why?
Because Neverland is not a battle manga?

Because whenever there is trouble, she overcomes it with a speech, a secret plan, a special ability, a pen. It's time for the author to be less complacent with her.
What point are you trying to make? You realize that this basically applies to every single shonen protagonist, right? I mean, whenever Deku is in trouble he overcomes it by unlocking another 5% of One for All.

This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion on here, but honestly, I don't really care about how much screentime the female characters get, and I don't expect there to be much of a female presence either. I won't really lose any sleep over it, I just find any and all praise for HeroAca's female characters silly when they're barely two-dimensional and experience very little growth. I'm just arguing against HeroAca specifically.

Facts may not be popular, but they are facts anyway. I agree with you, it is not necessary for them to have a big spotlight, putting romance aside, although it helps a bit having interesting female characters, which is rarely achieved outside of romances. Rare appearance for girls in MHA is the smallest of its problems, almost the entire cast is underdeveloped. I think MHA would be better with just Deku, Bakugou, Ochako and 2 or 3 more as actually characters and the rest of class fulfilled by bots. We would suffer less trying to guess the interesting stories of dozens of characters and get frustrated in the process. Even Uraraka barely appears, the CP this week had to remind me that she existed. lol Even Eri, who has the potential to be an extremely interesting character, was put aside, I think we will not see her colors until this school festival ends.

Noelle might like the MC, but she has a character arc, relevance to the story and has been getting constant power-ups since she was introduced. She got to humiliate her brother during the tournament. One of the girls that liked Asta gave up and was written out. Ochako's character arc is accepting that she likes Deku. That's the extent of her character.

And I'd take a Meleleona over the completely wasted dragon lady from HeroAca's newest arc.
Ochako had an entire character arc about tryin to support her parents during the sports festival arc. Which I’m sure we’ll hear more of that in the future.

And Momo has an entire character arc about overcoming her low self esteem.

MHA’s problems with females is that they don’t get enough screen time. But they’re not poorly written

I can count the number of complex female characters in Jump with one hand. Two hands if you include villains/antagonists.

They are hard to write

One of Emma’s plans backfired on her big time a few chapters ago. So she’s definitely not perfect

Let's ignore Deku, Bakugou and Todoroki since they're clearly a notch above the rest of the cast. Would you say that the treatment of Momo or Ochako is comparable to Iida or Kirishima? Sun-Eater, a character that was just introduced this arc, had a more dramatic and climatic character arc than Ochako and Momo.

It’s no secret that battle shonen don’t give a lot of spot light into female characters when it comes to combat. But that’s more so an issue with the genre.

Suneater isn’t a main character, and isn’t going to get a lot of spotlight in general, so of course he gets a shining moment that arc. And Kishima is a character that’s rising in popularity.
Both Ochako and Toga has their moments in that arc though. Toga has a huge moment the arc before

The point is that they don't get alot of screen time, but neither do the males, so it's not a female thing. Y'all can both agree on that. The thing is that he can't realistically make all 20 UA characters share equal screen time, that's just literally impossible given the way Jump readership works. He has to establish main core characters, and then slowly build up the side ones. He's done that with Momo, Aoyama, and now more notably Kirishima. And he"ll continur doing that with Class A. The fact that they're all interesting is an accomplishment

Wasn’t Magne transgendered? Along with Tiger.
I mean we can also talk about how Horikoshi included two LGBT characters, and for the most part they’re not treated as jokes

You know there's a manga in Jump that almost everybody bashes all the time but that actually put real effort in not forgetting most of its characters, especially the female ones, they get to fight as well: it's shokugeki no soma. Really unpopular opinion I know. So there are no excuses such as having a big cast when Ochako should be the "heroine" in theory. Erina and Megumi are far above her.

She didn't learn. Learning is a process. She just went there and did it.

Is Emma more perfect than your average male protagonist? This is a pretty ridiculous double standard.
Deku, Naruto, Tanjirou, they all strive to get things. Emma doesn't.
Even when she had to cut her ear, it didn't seem difficult. She just...did.

Because Neverland is not a battle manga?
But it has monsters, deaths, betrayals, weapons, walls to jump.

What point are you trying to make? You realize that this basically applies to every single shonen protagonist, right? I mean, whenever Deku is in trouble he overcomes it by unlocking another 5% of One for All.
The first time Deku fought against a villain, he trembled, he needed help. And the kid is trained for situations like that. When Emma had a gun pointed at her head, she didn't even blink. When Deku tried to change Todoroki's way of thinking, he cried, he needed to lose a tournament and break more bones. And Todoroki has not completely changed yet. When Emma needed to do that with that guy from the last arc, she just... needed to talk to him.

One of Emma’s plans backfired on her big time a few chapters ago. So she’s definitely not perfect
And it affected her for like... two pages?
Until she meets an important fella and finds a very important information in the easiest way possible.
Again, the author is too complacent with that girl. She needs to sweat a little.

This discussion has gone on long enough, it can continue in threads for each individual series involved but not here.

As a connoisseur of mecha anime young and old its...meh. It so desperately wants to be EVA it hurts because the director and writer are just not cut out for it I mean how fucking overt the sexual metaphors need to be for it not to seem like blatant propaganda to get Otaku to fix Japan's declining birthrates? But I would forgive the faults of the show if didn't look so ugly and if the fights themselves were more engaging. Basically the show takes elements from much better shows and tries to spin it into something that's more of an amalgam of those elements than its own thing. Maybe its a hit for people who aren't into mecha but it just left me bored.
nah you just don't know how it feels to have a butt as a cockpit. You're missing out. :cheez

Haven't seen the anime but i think the manga is pretty average, nothing too exciting. like a clone NGE.

The first episode of Franxx bored me so much that I wanted to fall asleep, so I dropped it.
