After rereading Build King, the weak characterization and overall simplicity which makes it feel like something out of CoroCoro definitely stands out, but the world has me rather intrigued. Putting aside the cliche "Build King", the MC not knowing about humans and the "nails from his hair" reveals rather nice possibilities. Shimabukuro's trademark psuedoscience can also be used here. The only thing is that he might have to update his art to really take off. Aside from being messy, which is weird for a one-shot for which he probably had quite some time unless he's already working on the serialization and he just pumped this out quickly, its honestly quite ugly this time around and I liked his Toriko designs. Its not even it being retro, there's just something off about it. But I too want a new hot-blooded shounen manga to read every week so I want to be hopeful.

shouldnt have gone the generic route for the 2nd arc, its harmed TPN immensely.

The villain reminded me of Team rocket and the house being like pikachu. It gave me those type of vibes, it was really really simple. So I do see where you're coming from with the CoroCoro example. Again, not really worried as both of Toriko's one shots were very simple too. I would prefer for this to be more of a Takeshi than a Toriko, reading Takeshi is like a huge upgrade as within just the first wideban the cast had more characterization/development.

The battle mechanics of BK hs a ton of potential. I really want to see the execution of that and the battle system fleshed out. At least there may be more human battles in this one. I remember in Toriko, it was noticeable that the battles against humans such as Toriko vs Tommyrod/Starjun were the better ones rather than against creatures. Although that 8 king tag battle against NEO was entertaining as hell.

As i said in the earlier post couple pages back, it read too much like Toriko and i do not like it. Shima already did it once with Takeshi and Toriko, why can't he do it again with Toriko and Build King? If this is a series and this is the first chapter it will probably be my exact same reaction just like Beelzebub -> Hungry Marie, Kuroko -> Robot.

I want to see something new, like Deathnote -> Bakuman, Eyeshield21 -> Dr Stone, Dr Slump -> Dragonball.

I can understand the Toriko vibes from the one-shot but the thing that drew me was the feeling and potential of the setting. The feeling I got as I was reading was "Ah! this is pure, fun shounen". Its a potential that can very well not be fulfilled. If its fullfilled then it could do well as a series but yes the Toriko vibes were big.

Its positive from wherever I've looked but I've come to learn that online, and twitter reception is only a part of the picture so it cannot be used to fully judge reactions.

Doubt it, would be way too soon. Chapters are probably drawn ~3 weeks before the release. So they should already be finished drawing them. This would mean they would serialize Build King without taking poll results into consideration. If the serialization starts this soon, what's even the point in releasing the one shot at all?

I would want to wait a while. Shimabu's best bet is to start planning everything out since it's likely it'll get serialized. The one shot was good but could use some improvements.

While I did like the Toriko vibe, I completely agree. I was hoping for something fresh, but this may as well be set in the sme universe. He’s done it before with Takeshi -> Toriko, so I’d like to see him come up with something completely different again if possible.

This is true, the chapters are finished a few weeks before they’re actually released (hence why Viz can get the raws a full week before street date). Not to mention a 50 page chapter can’t be drawn in a week either...
