if you look good, all the mangakas surely use a model, I do not see what is problem especially when the model is a photo. you have no right to make any judgment to them.
I doubt all artists are litrally overlaying their paper over another artists drawing and adding their characters hair on top of it and calling it their own art.

tracing and homage are the same thing in this case, you only see it as an homage/tracing because you like/dislike the author, they are pro mangakas and they know how to draw.

Using a picture for reference is not the same as tracing over it.

In Inoue's case, one can tell it's not an exact trace, but the photos are used as reference, which isn't too strange considering it's depicting a sport. It does look awfully similar in some spots, but it's arguably excusable, and to me at least, less of a big deal as tracing others' artwork.

As long as you give credit to the artist I don't see the issue. If you're passing the tracing off as your own than there's an issue
The issue here is that you're more or less using someone else's artwork as your own. If I traced the entirety of One Piece volume 1, and published it as my own artwork, even if I credit Oda, I'm still using his artwork as my own.

None of this answer my original question, how do you distinguish homage to tracing :feelsbadmanCan you trace something and say it's a homage even though that means you are lying?
I think what Horikoshi does is clear Homage.

It’s clear that he’s referencing DC and Marvel, but no where does it look like he traced the original image. He uses his own poses and adds his own twists to the images. Also, with the Batman reference. That’s such a iconic Batman cover that it’s clear that Horikoshi WANTS people to catch the reference. The fact that he’s not referencing anything obscure and chooses iconic covers to reference shows that he’s not shying away from the fact that he’s referencing something.

Another example would be Alex Ross’ recreation of the very first Superman cover.
It’s a shot for shot remake, and it’s very likely that he traced portions. However he added so much detail and made it look so realistic that it does matter

shouldnt that be different? I thought whoever manages the superman character would probably have allowed him to recreate 1st superman cover anyway. Unless the superman comic characters has been owned by different companies through the years.

Art is not someone possession, artist can use someone else's art to make a new work, it's just your narrow mind that does not want to accept it
I won't deny that SharkBait is narrow minded (sorry, not sorry), but saying that someone's art doesn't belong to them, and that someone else can use that art as their own, is way more narrow minded than anything SharkBait has said the last few months, other than Ziga being good.

Thats kind of rude as I have no stakes in this discussion. I dont even read DBS or am working to defend or not defend the aspect of tracing. So can you please apologize for assuming that I am accepting or not accepting of this tracing discussion.

Thank you.

Yeah, I'm out of this discussion.

Anyways, I'm excited to see the Souma color page and chapter this issue. I feel like this chapter and next couple chapters will make it or break it for me on whether or not it's heading in a direction I'm interested in.

It's very hard to have hope for SnS, personally, I lost a lot of confidence in the writer. Tosh's amazing art is being wasted on SnS and a big reason why it got popular in the first place was because of Tosh.

In the midst of all this plagiarism controversy looks like Noah's Notes' artist IKEZAWA Haruto accused of tracing.

I think a submarine is kind of fine

Actually is it even tracing, it could just be like in some manga where they superimpose IRL scenary photos in their works etc.

This isn't even tracing anymore. He literally copy pasted the submarine and used filters to make it look like a drawing.

Hey man if Oku can make a career of copypasting Google Earth images in his shitty manga then nothing is sacred.

More like he copied an entire character design over from im@s. Hair color, hair style, gyaru theme. It's so uncanny that I wouldn't be surprised if the im@s girl is his waifu and he self inserts as the professor.

Yeah, copy pasting/tracing stock images is very different from tracing other people's artworks of characters.

Inio Asano indeed does this, Kengo Hanazawa for I Am A Hero too (them doing that was even shown in the Manben documentary episodes of them), Sui Ishida prominently does it for Tokyo Ghoul in terms of locations and city images and stuff, and many, many more mangaka do it.

The real issue with Noahs Notes is Ikezawa expecting me to learn history with an erection. It's either one or the other, I can't learn when her fat thighs are filling up half the panels
