Having bigger circulation doesn't mean the people don't know what series are running in what magazine. Also doesn't mean people will like anything Jump puts on. And the amount of failed titles in Jump is quite big, while some of them would have definitely be more successful in other magazines. Which means the 1.8m you speak of, doesn't like the same thing/genre. The reader's taste/preference changes over time. So the assumption "it's battle shonen it have to sell 1 million" is ridiculous. You compare Beelzebub and BC and state Beelzebub is huge success for selling 300k, but BC is below average in popularity. Just because Beelze is more about comedy. And that's stupid. They had the same exposure you speak of. The reader's have different preferences, so you can't just say if it's battle shonen it must do better than the other, otherwise it's failing (not to mention Beelze was also quite battle oriented too). That's the double standard. And again by your standard, Bleach is indeed average popularity, 500k sales at the end. And that's ridiculous. Average popularity series receiving so many different types of adaptations. Also 1.8m doesn't mean they purchase every series they read in Jump, heck I don't even purchase every series I want, why would they? If I own the magazine, I can easily skip the volumes for all series. There is also so much talking here about ToC position. BC has often been above other higher selling series, doesn't that also speak about it's popularity? Let me point out this started as he said BC had below average popularity, because it's sales are just 300k. Below average popularity manga, receiving PS4 game, anime, being in top 10 manga sellers, etc, yeah sure, happens each day. Another thing OP sells like ~3m per volume, with 1.8m circulation of the magazine. How does that work? So people reading the manga, without reading the magazine. So it's also quite possible, Jump audience to purchase Nanatsu for example, without buying Magazine. And that's how Magazine have lower circulation.

"You gotta look at the genre" no I don't... Jump isn't just battle shonen. It if was, if that was their only successful thing, then they would start only battle shonens, no other genre. How stupid they would be if they knew the comedy, romance, sport etc genre would not do well, but still start them? The fact they do start them, means, that they have readers for them.

"The push it gets", the same as the other series. Sometimes 1-2 series gets more promoted, other times it's other 1-2 series. It's obvious why. If something is hot right now, they try to promote it more (like Beastars, and like Neverland and Kimetsu will be soon). Also the push doesn't cost them anything. It's not like they do commercials on TV, pay websites to talk about that series, etc. Which brings me to the lame EA Battlefront 2 comparison. It seems you have no idea about budged at all. The amount of investment EA did, is normal to be disappointed at their sales. And that's not because the title didn't turn successful, but it's just that they projected more. This is also different, publisher to feel the title failed the expected sales and fans to think "hey BC sells 300k only, Shueisha are angry it failed". Huge difference: publisher thinks it failed vs fans think it failed. Battlefront likely had 70-100m budged just for development. And at least 50% of that amount for promotion. That's how big those budgets are. Also EA had to pay for the license of Star Wars = another investment. Thus they need crazy amount of sales to compensate that. It's the same for movies. In that aspect I can agree that 300m budged, making 350m can be considered box failure. But manga ain't like that.

Bottom line: the fact you brought up low vs big budged games and compared it to manga circulations, means you assume it works the same way. While in fact it's not. The investment of promoting your manga in your magazine is not comparable to the development costs and promotion of big budged games. Thus the returnable profit shouldn't be increased so much to compensate for the budged costs and turn successful.

I saw some comments before saying that early Kimetsu no Yaiba was close to get cancelled, is that true?
Didn't have good ranks in the beginning and the sales weren't great then the Togashi recommendation came and essentially saved it.

It took like 30 chapters before its ranks started to stabilize, and even then it didn't start selling well until like 18 months in. I imagine that's why it's anime announcement was so late compared to everything else too. I'm surprised it came as early as it did tbh.

The rankings were never cancel-worthy, I remember it mostly getting decent to good rankings past the first 3 chapters. It definitely got a lot more stable around the spider arc but I don't think it was ever at serious risk of cancellation.

I can get why it didn't sell well at first, but i was surprised to hear that it didn't have good rankings, because it had a solid first chapter and the first arcs were also good imo, so i just checked the rankings and they were actually better than what i was excpecting!

The rankings weren't Kimetsu's problems, it was the sales. It literally sold under 15k for the first volume on the week of release.

Wouldn't call those cancel-worthy but definitely not good. I honestly forgot that it got the top 5 a few times during its first year. Sales weren't great though.
Eleven times to be precise.

Even in retrospect I still don't like the first arcs of Kimetsu. Too many things being thrown without proper development and too dependent on exposition to reach me emotionally. It was kind of disappointing after such an interesting and unique first chapter. I even remember thinking "this guy is afraid of being canceled".

I always found the first chapter to be one of the weakest.

I understand it's difficult for incels to just accept that Gotoge is likely a women, however since there is what we may call "questions" on the matter; wouldn't it just be smarter and more respectful to just use gender neutral pronouns rather than only ever using male ones?

I liked. Samurai setting, family tragedy, bond between brother and sister, melancholic tone, distinct art style. A good mix.

That was what thought BEFORE the 2ch rumors. Anyway, I'm sorry. It was not my intention to be disrespectful.

I've corrected you specifically on this many many times since you heard these "rumors".

It's not only rumours, 2ch refers to Gotouge specifically as a woman, also, who would get offended here about her being refered as such?

The author comments were very feminine at times too...so yeah it's likely but no confirmation yet.

You misunderstand me.
I think people should respond to her with female pronouns or gender neutral ones if they refuse to do so.

Quite a big jump to conclusions there.
