But the art is still poor.
I gave the art grief back when it began as well but the artist is a 20 year old former pixiv fan artist that's drawing manga for the first time. I think she'll improve as the story goes on and even if Act-age is cut short, she'll probably be better by her next series. Just drawing 18 page chapters every week will improve any artist's skill tremendously.

I gave it a hard time at first too, but it's starting to grow on me now. Plus, it has been gradually improving as time goes on. It's a small detail, but I love when she does those reflections in the characters' eyes. It just really makes those scenes pop for me

Your art can be good or bad , but if you leave an impresion it doesn't matter how bad it is.We have this year/last year some new series that they have decent/good art but it don't make you feel anything.

I'd say the editors might be to blame for failing to properly raise new talents. We've had quite a bit of new talents run these past 2 years and almost all of them hardly made much of an impression, personally anyway. Jujutsu might be the one that stood out but even then the story needs work. From the 6in round to now, overwhelmingly, only the veterans are able to stick around but even then not sell particularly well by Jump standards. Go back even further and few newbies have made it with the biggest ones being Kimetsu and Neverland. I really think Jump has to rethink how its going to grow rookie mangaka who haven't had a series or maybe one series.

Neverland wasn't entirely newbie either, the writer was new I think but Posuka did a couple short licensed manga for Corocoro before. So yeah, it's been well over 2 years since we've had a successful newbie mangaka in the magazine (hopefully we get at least one of Jujutsu or Act-age sticking around long term).

I hope so, because I'm not just talking about the character design, anatomy and stuff like that, but also the way the pages are made. They are boring to look at.

That I'd chalk up to experience. If Bakuman is anything to go by, the writer might possibly do the neemu before handing it off to the artist and the editor checks that. Its also possible that the artist refines the neemu even further but both are newbies. I didn't see any particularly experimental or ambitious pages but that might be because I haven't read past the first 3 chapters. I'll wait until there are at least 20. But again, the editor gives the ok so they probably thought it was fine.

I have always liked the art in Act-age and I'm already seeing small improvements. Hopefully she doesn't overwork herself. At such a young age there's so much she can learn and this serialization will be valuable experience for her, even if the manga has a short life. I'm really rooting for this duo, they're really meshing together well.

I hope Jujutsu and Act-age become successful. I'm always happy when rookies find success. It's also good for the manga industry overall because younger generations are needed to keep the medium moving forward.

Btw, I have a question: the number of assistants depends on the success (=money) of the manga or the type of the manga?

depends on the author

some need a lot of assistants to finish their work on time

other need no assistant at all

Yeah, but, who pays? I mean, if I'm a newbie and need 6 assistants, will the magazine say yes?

To give an example, Higashimura Akiko has like 3 series running simultaneously with another 2 on break and has like 10 assistants to help finish all the work. From what I've heard, the mangaka pay for the assistants though the magazine will help in the beginning for sturggling artists, especially Jump. Keijo's mangaka had like 1 assistant, due to what I heard being a mix of the magazine not getting him more assistants and also helping him pay for them. That series was hardly a big hit. Regardless of the actual manga side, Jump is still one of the nicest magazines for mangaka in terms of accomodation.

It's up to the mangaka to pay the assistants, to pay them to eat, to pay for the studio and the drawing materials and that with just the income of the pages each month, if the tankobon do not sell well they are often indebted.

The paneling in act-age is so bad that I can not finish reading the 1st chapter

Alice no Taiyou
Debut raw: https://tieba.baidu.com/p/5777889683
Seiji Tanaka: Secretary to the Managing President - General Time Industries
Chapter 2 raw: https://tieba.baidu.com/p/5777896737
I'm already super into the first chapter of Alice to Taiyou. Not only to the main characters both seem likable (bonus points for the quick cat transformations), it looks like there could be a pretty lively cast of delinquent side characters. I'm hoping the next couple chapters continue to nail it.

Seiji Tanaka's second chapter was pretty good. I like these future weapons and battles better than the ones in Noah's Notes. I really wish they would've just stuck to adventuring and maybe some psychological battles/puzzle challenges against other academics and geeks. Seiji Tanaka still hasn't hooked me yet though, but the art style is starting to grow on me a bit.

Hopefully it just hasn't been released that. That'd be pretty sucky if all of the other ones have gotten one, but they leave out Alice to Taiyou
