I think what's more shocking is the fact that only 4 manga remain from that old toc. Shows how much of a change WSJ has had in the past few years.
Or why Nonoue never came back to Jump.

It's also possible that there are no "rankings", and the TOC doesn't represent how much ppl liked a chapter from 7 weeks ago. And it's actually just a reflection of popularity, promotion, and whats going on in the current issue's chapter.

I doubt the editor's would randomly decide to put a bottom dwelling series that isn't popular to give it a super push if the series didn't at least a moderate fanbase already. Some popular series have been at the bottom before. It's possible that maybe being at the bottom doesn't ALWAYS mean that a series, or a particular chapter, isn't doing well.

We are specifically talking about when a series starts off as a low-mid or low TOC placer before suddenly beginning to place highly a lot.
The explanation is that the editors data showed the series was growing.

You can understand why Kishimoto is taking his sweet time with his next work and also why Kubo isn't interested to return anytime soon. They did it for 15 years straight.
To be fair they could have ended those series at any point. Shuiesha wasn't forcing either of them to continue but it was plainly obvious that neither of them had any sort of forethought or plans for the series to last as long as they did hence why by their respective last arc they completely burnt themselves out and even series that don't last that long like Shaman King where Takei couldn't even be bothered to give it a proper ending until 5 years after its cancellation and Dragonball's ending was pretty much Toriyamam admitting to the audience that "Hey! I'm out of ideas so I'm wrapping this up. With Ishida its obvious that the success of Tokyo Ghoul was unprecedented and expectations from audiences put pressure on his content which majorly effected its overall quality come RE:. We may chastised Togashi for being lazy and keeping fans waiting but to the man's credit HxH has not dropped in quality (writing wise) since it started and he's still enthusiastic about the series. I'm not sure if things need to change but mangaka just need to have a better foresight into their stories so they don't run off course.

Yeah the 8 week rule is pretty much a fiction that people spread too much. Any comment from Jump editors and creators paints a less strictly rank-based idea behind the TOC

ToC position only matters when a series is on the low for a long period of time; and even then, for a popular series there needs to be a drop in sales, like with Bleach.

What are you talking about? Shueshia does force series to continue if they're super popular. Take Yu Yu Hakusho and Dragon Ball for example.
Also, Takei was only able to do the Kazenbang ending because there became new demand for it. I'm sure plenty of mangaka would like to be able to make endings for their cancelled series. It has nothing to do with Takei being too lazy to do it.

So I'm guessing AssClass wasn't Super popular then? YYH only lasted for 18 volumes the reason why its ending is a mess is because the entire manga was a mess with Togashi not knowing what the hell he wanted for it. Takei came back to Shaman King by his accord not because of demand, he pushing for Jumbor to become a new series and started Ultima so he must have regained his passion for drawing Shaman King again during that period. Really the only mangaka that was "forced" to continue working on a series was Toriyama giving all the back and forth he had withe editors about ending the series as early as Freiza.

Yep that's why Yusuke became a demon, we had another spirit detective who had multiple personality disorder and was also a gay man, and the last arc was yet another tournament arc but with all the fights skipped.

Well in the past there was a pretty decent correlation with placements and particular events of series. Since the new EiC came in that’s all but gone though. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 100% how the EiC feels on that certain week these days. Outside of the bottom 3, the ToC means very little nowadays.

You have to think that at this point Neverland holds a record for most color pages within its first 2 years. Not even Hikaru no Go, which won the freaking Tezuka Award, received that much attention.

I feel like claims like "so and so was forced to continue" are just things that can never be verified yet people continue say it like its the truth. how would anyone ever prove that that was the case? Unless I missed some hidden Togashi interview somewhere...i mean if he was truly capable of being forced to do stuff against his will, then we would have no hiatuses for hxh.

Its a fact that he did butt heads with his editor during YYH run was culminated into its shitty ending but anyone who says he was forced to continue are lying through their teeth. Shuiesha has had a pretty good relationship with their authors and they tend to have nothing but good things to say about them when they depart so any notion that an author is "forced" to do anything is hogwash since its really poor workmanship. The only time you would see an author butt heads with anyone outside their editor is sponsors (see Oda and his losing battle with Toei to make Chopper less cutesy).

To be fair, he's never claimed that he's the source.
When everyone in a thread you're involved in claims that you are the source and you never tell them you're not or correct them, then you are pretty much claiming to be the source.
