EDIT above because I want this to be the main focus: I've read in Jump discord that Act-age volume 3 reached 30k in first week.

So, last week issue Jump chapters are already out. My analysis:

Jujutsu 20 (please Jaimini, don't go lazy)
That new old man is a good teacher. Everything has a weak point. And Itadori is motivated. Meanwhile, seems the demons have befriended a normal human

Noah's Notes 19
One new scholar which is a lewd chemistry specialized woman who has her eyes blinded by a ''mask''. Another new scholar which is a crazy surfer young guy (specialized in gastronomy?). Another new scholar which is a half-naked desert guy (dressed in arabian clothes and for some reason can summon sandstorms). And he's a playboy with gyaru-chan. Another new scholar which is a flying folk with long coat and who can attack people with thunders. Seems they are infiltring in something guarded with armed army soldiers
Yep, this could very well be the beginning of its final arc.

Momiji 11
Something happening between main girl and one of shogi admited players, dunno. And some sort of shogi training? But seems focus is now on main girl.

Invade You 10
Council President a cute

Tanaka Seiji 5
Genius girl mother is hurt in the accident. Girl is also hurt but saved by MC. Sanaka Teiji is having serious problems. Genius girl saves the day with her screwdriver eliminating chains from Tanaka Seiji suitcase

Alice and Sun 4
Noah got tired from Noah's Notes and now is here. Seems like a chapter full of planning and then a little training.

Well if there's a barometer there's last year's Gintama live action movie which did ¥4.6 billion ($42 million) making it the highest grossing film in Japan last year
*Highest grossing domestic non-anime film, to be more precise.

As far as I'm aware, Henry wasn't involved with this project, he just posted it on r/manga. The series was picked up by Cyan Steam.
yeah, I didn't read it all the way through my bad.

Puts into perspective how big the Big 3 truly were.
The whole late 90s to early 2000s was a big time for WSJ. They got OP, HxH, Naruto, Prince of Tennis, Bleach, Gintama, Death Note all just within a year or two from each other. With the exception of Gintama, all pretty much had more than a million average volume sales. Gintama did spectacularly well for a comedy.

What live actions are known to do well even? Like it was no way Bleach was gonna beat Pokemon but nobody has provided a barometer of successful live actions to go off.
I assume Kenshin did well? It did get sequels.

That list is incomplete big time. It's missing like 4 WSJ 100 million sellers, plus the URL ticks me off the wrong way "jump_manga" but includes all the major magazines.

It's definitely missing many in between. Bleach is WSJ's 6th best selling series of all time, not 3rd.
But Im gonna assume this list is probably from the time One Piece was serialized? Which might explain why its missing the older manga.

It's on-going/recently ended manga according to the post. Bleach/Fairy Tail caught me off guard.

Some of them aren't even accurate. Like Tokyo Ghoul has 37 million copies in print but the list has it at 35. I'm sure it's the same for Kingdom.

Not only Tokyo Ghoul is incorrect, Jojo is missing, but IIRC One piece should have approximately 100M more for it's print worldwide.

I wonder how popular and bigger HxH would be if Togashi took the normal route.

But then the question of quality would come into play. Togashi's breaks are essentially what also enables him to keep the story as good as it is.

  • people would say the "quality" would be down compared to how much time Togashi has currently to form his plot out
  • the mainstream appeal of Yorknew arc would set the franchise for years only for it blow up further from the ant arc
  • Toonami boots Naruto for HxH in 2006 due to "explosive popularity"
  • HxH would be number 1 in every poll and in sales over one piece, Jump promotes a "secret interview" available for 4000000000000 yen special edition OVA
  • Hisoka vs. Chrollo aftermath in the anime triggers public outrage and banning petitions to Togashi and Keyakizaka46
  • Togashi "abruptly" decides to end HxH in the middle of the final arc due to the stress of being weighed down from his bank account
  • Nintendo sues Togashi 5 years later for stealing the model of the earliest GameCube blueprint from Greed Island
something like that

It will probably remain the same in popularity, just sell more volumes, and no 2011 version of the anime (the old version turns into a long running series).

2,922,876 Hunter x Hunter 2011 (2 volumes release in this time)
3,439,839 Hunter x Hunter 2012 (1,090,309 Hunter x Hunter vol.30)
4,231,475 Hunter x Hunter 2013 (2 volumes release in this time)

Not a lots of backlog sales, plus the recent Ame Talk show that it doesn't increase the sales of Hunter x Hunter.

Also, it would probably end way before then, 20 years with no break would put Hunter x Hunter at around 960 chapters mark.

perhaps its time that all of these just go in their respective threads. I dont think this thread is for chapter by chapter analysis, especially 10+ chapters in

It'd be at or a little above Naruto level, strictly speaking sales-wise anyway. HxH actually hasn't reached Naruto's peak first printing, even if its just by 20k. HxH benefited early on due to its early anime adaptation. It happened a little over a year into serialization whereas Naruto had to wait almost 3 years for the anime to start.

I still believe that they should put it on a monthly or at least bi-monthly schedule. That way he can have plenty of rest and time to put out 19 pages each time.
