Sure, don't pick a series up instantly. But if a series last 20 chapters+ and has been getting volume reprints in Japan with good ranks and CPs, VIZ should probably invest in it because that series might actually stick on for a bit.

Eh, it's been established pretty much that Viz has no idea what they are doing when it comes to new series. So whatever. It's also Viz's job to introduce new manga into their markets and if they don't take the effort to do it themselves, then they can't really blame a series for not being popular.
I don’t think Viz is responsible for series blowing up in the West, to some degree.
I think they contribute by providing official physical releases.

However, most ppl who are subscribed to Viz like know of most series going on in Japan. If ppl are that interested in, say Jujutsu Kaisen, then they would have voted or made it clear that they want it in the magazine.

Most ppl likely know of site like Jaimini, and Manga Reddit, so if ppl were THAT passionate about reading the series after Viz didn’t pick it up after the Jump Start, they would have found other means of reading the series.
When MHA and Neverland came out in the West ppl were vocal about those series from chapter 1.

You can probably view it the same way series get axed in Japan. If a series has a vocal fanbase in the beginning Viz will pick it up and keep it. If it manages to stick around Japan Viz will still release Volumes, we just won’t get week by week chapters.

I would say a good way viz could catch up and add series in the Magazine would be to release Volumes months earlier digitally at a faster pace than physical copies. But even then, they can’t expect that a large amount of readers will binge read

You can find the author comments on r/manga every monday.

>Dr. Stone
I wonder if that was Caleb lol. Then again, I think he would've mentioned it somewhere on his twitter, but I couldn't help but think about the Senku he made.

Edit: Nevermind, it definitely wasn't him.

reprints can be a deceptive measure, I dont think they tell us the quantity being reprinted and cancelled series also got reprints (rxl), cps could be deceptive, and length wise, some series still end in the 48- 92 chp range. Viz was just burnt on RxL afterall.

I have 2 SJ subscriber votes so if a series make it to the line up you can thank me, and if the series doesn't make it on Viz you can also blame me :derp

Also, keep in mind Viz gets the manuscript 2 weeks in advance (fact) so they can play the catch up game if they choose too.

then we get cases like mentioned earlier that Reborn, Gintama and Jojo that end up being dropped because they're huge in Japan but not cared about here.

It was censored and they started with Part 3 so could be that? Maybe people didn't like the art or something? Not really sure.

It was mainly a one person effort pushing its release since he was a fan of the series and the only reason why they finished Part 3 was because of him despite poor sales. Little did he know that the franchise would gain a resurgence of popularity with the 2012 anime and Viz would re-license the series again giving it the premium treatment and now they're reprinting Banana Fish thanks to the ne anime. I'm surprised they haven't picked up Gintama again since the series has developed quite the cult following online yet all its domestic releases have failed.

In comparison to latest jump anime movies (excluding recaps):

Weekend Opening (first 2-3 day sale)
¥1,155 million One Piece Gold
¥960.6 million Revival of F
¥590 million Boruto
¥515.3 million The Last: Naruto the Movie
BNHA is estimated around 500million

The only concerning about MHA movie is the weekend drop compared to Friday, which rarely happens on a movie, which suppose to climb up on weekends. The negative part, the succeeding sales most likely will fall down quicker than anticipated. On the positive hand, the huge friday sales is because of the free manga, and the next few weeks are lacking in animated movies so less competition. (Nanatsu no Taizai is the only notable)

I like to think that people either just found about this site, or that they have been a lurker for so long they decided to join (like me)

Unlike those films listed it had STEEP competition last weekend (Code Blue, Mission Impossible, Incredibles 2, Jurassic World 2, Kamen Rider Build) so while it was definitely front-loaded it did held on Saturday and Sunday and actually has been doing good this past Monday. The Last and Boruto also came with special manga I believe (which has been a thing for these movies since Strong World) so I doubt the free manga was much of a contributing factor but it still enticed fans to go see it. Also this week is the Gintama sequel alongside holdovers so its still pretty competitive.

Boruto is the highest grossing film in the franchise (before that it was The Last and before that it was Road to Ninja). Why do you think we're knee deep in manga and anime for it when Naruto already ended?

Didn't know about this but that's great since it's the best Naruto movie. And the arc that adapted it on anime was even better and more complete.
