If they’re not using scan pics at all I don’t see the issue here. I wouldn’t even say discussing a leaked chapter without using pics is even a grey area. They’re allowed to talk about it still.
And even so, I think it would be a pretty desperate and lame of Shueisha to attack somebody for something so petty
Uh pictures or not, it’s still their copyrighted content that’s being revealed to people days before its release for free. Hell, they’re even making money out of it... And the bigger youtube channels are sharing this information with hundreds of thousands of people. It is petty no doubt, but they’re just an easy target since scan websites and groups are largely outside of their control.

??? When people using music in their videos, youtube automatically puts up the music copyright information as well as links to buy the songs, quite sure theyve handled that issue for years now.

Your video can still be removed from youtube for streaming tv shows and clips if over a certain length*. Unless youre using some weird form of youtube, Ive never seen any full length tv show episode, or movie last on youtube for any type of noticable duration before it was eventually auto removed, and repeat offenders get banned.
There are youtubers who discuss film and television while using short clips and screenshots that display what moment they’re talking about.
And you’re only allowed to use up to 30 secs of a song, but even then, I’d say not allowing ppl to use music in a video is pretty stupid depending on the context.

Obviously I know that you can’t show the entire chapter on youtube, and just talk about the chapter.

But I’m assuming we’re talking about the youtubers we normally discuss here, not random nobodies with little follow counts. And at most those youtubers will only show maybe a page or two in their videos when discussing a chapter, which I see no issue with

Just kidding bro. But your argument isn't making sense. So because they use a few illegal scans it shouldn't be a problem? It's still illegal lmao. That's like if I stole a few dollars from a bank, I shouldn't get arrested cause it was a "few". It might be petty but they expose themselves to this and should know what can come from it.

I assume it’s the early release that they can use as an arguement against them. Even game and movie reviewers have embargos they can’t really break if they want to keep going in the long term. Edited Manga has been under the radar until now, but there’s no reason it should be allowed when pretty much all other before-streetdate content on official platforms isn’t.

my point is that it’s such a none issue to even complain about. Maybe if it’s released before official release. But most of the big youtubers don’t seem to include actual pictures from the manga, unless they’re doing a discussion video(which usually uses images from official releases). Maybe the thumbnails, but most of the big youtubers use fan art in their thumbnails.

I think it’s a bit hypocritical to single one group out for something so small, when YouTube as a whole is a blending pot of using different materials from different media. I wouldn’t say Gaming Youtubers, or AMV Youtubers, or Drama youtubers should be removed when they’re using content from all over the place, so I feel like anime youtubers aren’t doing much different from them.

Plus, I read Edited Mangas from time to time, so I think it would be hypocritical of me to celebrate youtubers who get removed for doing the same thing

None of those Youtubers are doing things before streetdate though. For the next CoD or whatever big game (that will leak) go publish a review before the streedate that's just you talking in front of the camera or a static image of the box art or something and see how quick Activision/whoever take that down

I disagree since people can make, even if only a few dollars, from youtube. It is unfair and wrong to make money in such a manner when joe schmo who reads their weekly dose of BLack Clover, isnt making money either.

Also youtube, like any capitalist enterprise, isnt infallible in removing content or users from its site, anyone can find tons of controversy from handling of lgbt issues to fake news and beyond.

@savethecat the difference between us and them is they profit on illegally scanned japanese comics. I don't support Viz and only have a guest account on Crunchy to watch anime so I'm not acting like I don't read scans but I never did it for profit. Also I was speaking mainly manga, anime gets offically subbed a few hours after it officially releases in Japan. I don't see a problem with anime clips compared to pirated manga.

Anyway back on topic, at first I was sad both new series seem to be gag series since I doubt Viz will pick either up but at least Hunter x Hunter is coming back to tide us over a bit until the next round when hopefully there will be something for Viz. It sure would suck if they ended up passing on Jujutsu/Ace-Age then the remainder of the year is stuff they wouldn't license or flops.

It actually makes zero sense to have not added Kimetsu or Jujutsu at this point.

Kimetsu is a proven success and is getting an anime from Ufotable.

Jujutsu is the best preforming new tradiational battle shonen since My Hero Academia correct?

I remain convinced that Viz editors lurk this thread and refuse to add them out of spite for how much we constantly point out their incompetentcies.

did Kimetsu volume 1 flop here? I thought I saw someone posting the before. Both had rocky starts so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't do very well in the reader surveys making Viz hesitant. Just because something is popular in Japan doesn't mean its success will translate here.

I also feel there was something behind the scenes up with Kimetsu anyway. Back when I used to listen to their podcast they mentioned why they didn't run a Jump Start for Yuuna or that Straighten Up and Mononofu weren't picked up because despite a small vocal community they weren't that popular but they never mentioned Kimetsu once. Even if they were just sitting on it despite being popular they could have lied and gave the same reasoning as Straighten Up and Mononofu but I never heard anything. I haven't listened in a while so I don't know if they've continued this (it was usually from the questions on the survey) or if they ever commented on Jujutsu.

On what stature? Once again just because something is a success in Japan doesn't mean it'll be a hit in the US. The first volume of Kimetsu Viz released didn't even do all that well especially in comparison to Neverland so to say that "they should have gotten it" doesn't mean anything.

Jujutsu is the best preforming new tradiational battle shonen since My Hero Academia correct?
Yes but I can honestly say that its appeal is largely with its aesthetic and not its content, its previews didn't heat up discussion like Dr. Stone did but it definitely would not have hurt Viz to put it on the lineup given that they essentially wasted it by putting Robot on there which came to bite them in the ass.

I remain convinced that Viz editors lurk this thread and refuse to add them out of spite for how much we constantly point out their incompetentcies.
Trust me, those guys are lurking twitter and generally look for suggestions on their handle its why Kimetsu got picked up because people kept nagging them about it so my suggestion is to do the same for Jujutsu.

IIRC it didn't flop but it didn't do particularly well either, they're heavily promoting volume 2 though getting our favorite resident shill Yonkou and every anitwitter personality to endorse it before it release. Its pretty much depending on whether the anime will explode or not now but it'll definitely help it come spring.

I honestly think HxH came back with the worst timing and completely screwed whatever slight chances we had of getting something new. Even if it’s only for 10 weeks, it changes everything.

If they were smart they would announced two new titles alongside it but this is Viz the same company that sat on MHA for a year before getting it.

Shout-out to all the people who nagged Viz to add Kimetsu because I actually wanted to buy it and the semi-monthly release schedule works great. Vol 2 arrives tomorrow and I'm excited. :super
