I assumed it was probably always planned to be a long running anime, and they only initially announced 51 episode. Sure if it was doing drastically terrible it would probably get cancelled.
Before the extension, the TV guides for TV Tokyo didn't list anything beyond episode 51 while every other show like Boruto still had their episodes listed. There's also the fact that if it was planned as long running, Hulu would still have had the license to the episodes beyond 51.
But I never got the impression that Black Clover was doing exceptionally well. It’s a success and definitely doing well, but it’s not exactly a phenomenon world wide like say, DB, Naruto, OP, OPM, and it peer MHA worldwide
I never said it was a phenomenon but that it was well received. The anime has been doing really well in Chinese streaming sites which is currently the biggest overseas market for the animation industry. Unfortunately, I don't think most people in the west realize how big their contributions to the growth of the anime industry has been in the last 5 years or so. In iqiyi before the extension BC, was played over 200 million times and in youku, it's currently sitting at 60 million. (You'll have to take my word for the iqyi stat because they're not visible anymore). For comparisons sake, Boruto had been played over 1 billion times last time I checked. These are obviously big numbers. People who bring up Bleach in an attempt to downplay BC's achievement in TV Tokyo's fiscal report don't realize the Netflix deal that happened for the live action movie. It's no secret that the sum Netflix pays for licensing the shows are more than enough to cover up the entire costs of a production. I think a reliable youtuber called Canipa covers that.
With how low the boost was with the anime, once the anime stops and the sales start falling (like they always do), it will get cancelled. Unless OFC, it ends naturally before that.
Literally not hating. Just being realistic.
Just like World Trigger right?
Jokes aside. For that to happen, people will have to suddenly stop watching the anime or if there's no more material to animate, because I simply can't see it ending right now.
I mean, kingdom's anime didn't really give it much of a boost either and it still got two long seasons. So it doesn't really say or mean much.
Kingdom anime was airing in Nhk. Surely you know they operate differently compared to normal production committees? It was also airing back in a time when streaming wasn't really a big deal like it is now and China still had the ban on anime.
