Both started in the same round I guess. Here neither got picked up by the big groups at first and were translated by 4chan anons used digital raws for another similarity.
Both are still being translated by that same anon. Their Kimetsu chapter is just released btw.

kny first couple of arc wasn't liked (it wasn't as liked until the spider family arc) while yuuna was pretty liked
so when kny first volume didn't rank in oricon meanwhile yuuna first volume sold 90k (oh how times have changed) yuuna fans felt it's validated and felt the need to beat on kny
That's kinda weird. They are completely different series that I can't see a competition between them.
Early Kimetsu is pretty rough, plus Gotouge was a complete newbie while Miura already had a WSJ series under his belt (Koisome Momoji artist), so it made sense that Yuuna sold better.

Having experience helps but it doesnt always mean that the creator can make a more successful series. Miura having experience didnt mean that YnY was going to sell more than KnY, YnY just started better. Thankfully KnY picks up with the spider arc & helped with sales a lot (tbf it was growing a bit iirc with the drum house arc)

I think I remember KnY vs YnY, hell even KnY vs WNL, some guy here told me that WNL will end up selling more than KnY & I lol'd. (was before anime announcement)

I almost forgot to talk about Yozakura and Mitama. Yozakura definitely needs to survive, it's funny, the characters are interesting, there is potential for funny and serious arcs, all the potential is there.
Mitama on the other hand should join U19 group.

Huh, the tables have really turned on that one. It’s nice that both managed to survive, at least!

Even more interesting when one realizes they were both from the same serialization round

I didn't even bother with the second chapter, but from the first, Mitama felt like it's got some potential security as the next in the "end of the book gag series" slot, as I'm pretty sure Jump's currently lacking for one. I wouldn't expect it to have much of a chance as part of the "regular" lineup, but I don't think it's aiming for that.

It feels like everything that's been in that slot since Jaguar ended has been pretty short-lived, though. I wonder if that's just a new editorial policy to rotate the end-of-book series more regularly, or just that they haven't sold very well?

imagine forgetting about /ourguy/

Tomato Poodle would have been still in the end here if it wasn't for the hiatus and author health

I freakin' knew I was forgetting something! Though I feel like my sentiment mostly still stands that they seem to be cycling the gag series pretty quick. Didn't really realize that Lycopene was an artist issue, though.

For reference, it was explained that, for the gag series which are clearly aimed at a younger demographic (Spring Weapon, Japan, Mitama), the main goal is to give some short term boosts to Jump's young readership that'll stick around after the series is (almost inevitably) canceled. Any financial merit from the series itself is more or less a secondary priority.

As for the gag series which are for a teenage demographic? Eh, I'd just chalk it up to financial investment in series comparable to stuff available on pixiv not being that appealing a prospect for most people nowadays. Gag manga seems to do plenty fine on Jump+ (Lycopene, amusingly, is included there).

And the sad thing is despite everything the 3rd volume released in June sold better than almost every new series released this year, if it wasn't for his health, Lycopene would be safe and popular in the magazine =/

Whatever happened to that huge Stealth Symphony fan? Mx0 or something might have been his name. I remember when I first started lurking here during the Illegal Rare serialization and that guy was the biggest Narita fanboy on here talking smack and defending the series from everyone lmao

Also is Eru from Casanova still around?

I miss GIO so much that I’m not even sure if that was his name. It’s been so long since he’s banned

Welp, Taisei's bitten the dust now. That cancellation order can't come soon enough.

Also, while Yui has done better than the majority of newbies, I think it's still very much in the red in terms of numbers.

Too bad for Beast Children and Double Taisei, but hey, they won't have to join U19 club at least.

Having experience helps but it doesnt always mean that the creator can make a more successful series.

Having experience doesn't guarantee anything, but you can always count on fans from your previous work to check your latest series out. As long as you didn't drive your last series into a dumpster ground, that is (looking at you Tsukuda).
And what a bold prediction from that guy. Anime or not, harem romcoms don't outsell battle series in general.
