Yaiba in general isn’t a major Top 50 threat anymore, it seems. But I am curious as to how much this latest volume sold this week.

Have Dr. Stone’s sales actually increased? And if so, by how much? All of the volumes are there doing alright, but still. At least the show seems to be doing well internationally.

HeroAca backlogs are slowly creeping up, which is nice. Road to late December has begun, huh? Feels like the whole franchise is building up to that.

Fuck, man. Spy x Family is really outselling Black Clover per volume now. If it got an anime it would probably complete with the 500k+ sellers now.
We can't tell how much Dr. Stone's sales have increased overall since the backlog never reaches the top 100 (well it did once) but it's neither great nor bad. But the most recent volumes have fared slightly better, with volume 12 selling 117k in a month. It's on par with AA and WNL in terms of sales. For all the push Crunchyroll did for the series, though, the popularity is average at best.

If a big fight happens in MHA anime around the time the movie is release, we might see the backlog jump for that week at least. The series got a reprint not too long ago and it's getting another one. They are getting ready.

SXF blowing up in popularity once it gets an anime is a given. Unless, they make a really bad adaptation, which I'm sure Jump will see to it not happening.

After what happened with Kimetsu, Jump will definitely have to make sure SxF gets a good production staff unless Nak shows his incompetence again by letting a random studio/staff take it without any due dilligence whatsoever.

Ok guys. With 2010s decade almost over, what would be your favorite top-5 titles from this decade?

For me, in no order: My Hero Academia, Black Clover, Act-age, Kimetsu no Yaiba, Assassination Classroom
the mangas that present 2010's

HQ
Mha
Assclass
BC (even tho i slightly disagree with this, its still heavily known)

Why would Nakano be responsible for a Jump+ series. Editor in Chief of Jump+ is Hosono.

Crunchyroll didn't push Dr Stone in Japan. Ads in Times Square won't affect Japanese volume sales.
I was talking about the international push since he mentioned the anime's popularity overseas.

it's the 5th most popular show on Crunchyroll right now (https://www.crunchyroll.com/videos/anime) 4 days after the last episode aired. Not sure how much higher they wanted it to get.
That list changes in each country, doesn't it? They released a list of the most watched animes in summer not too long ago, but they only had it in alphabetical order and not in actual numbers lol.

no idea. Whenever I've brought it up before I've never seen anyone disagree with what I've said so I assume it's the same worldwide (maybe removing the shows not available in your country but Crunchyroll doesn't have very much that's popular and not in Canada so I can't confirm)

From what I see, Dr. Stone is relatively popular in the West. It’s no HeroAca or even Demon Slayer, but it’s doing just fine. Much better than Japan, at least.

I thought that while Nakano isn't officially E-i-C of Jump+, he also oversees the magazine as much as Hosono? I think it was from that interview with ANN when M+ first came out.

I've always found Dr.Stone and Jujutsu as inverse cases (dunno if someone else feels also what I'm saying in this post):

-Dr.Stone being one of most popular Jump manga in West, but it doesn't do as well in Japan.
-Jujutsu Kaisen being one of Jump manga that is having better sales in Japan, but is probably one of lesser and most unknown manga in West.

Is there anything suggesting its doing well in the west outside using Crunchyroll or is this another BC situation?

I disagree with jjk not known in the west. Espcially when viz is publishing Vol 2 feb. And slowly other European countries making jjk ads. For an new series like jjk, that's huge.

Then it may get an anime in 2020 and will be seen as the next bleach. Some manga just needs to start slowly, not every manga are meant to be instant global hits to be successful

Dunno. For example, in 4chan Jujutsu is probably the Jump manga with less talk (Act-age or Chainsawman manage to get more talk), and in Twitter is relatively minor (people like Yonkou ignore it for some reason). Maybe is just my perception.

Yeah, at least from the beginning. Not sure when series are already going:

Are you involved with MANGA Plus?

Well, Jump+ and MANGA Plus are both parts of Shonen Jump, and as the chief editor I get involved in the content of both the magazine and Jump+/MANGA Plus. I help decide what manga get serialized in both Jump+ and the magazine.

I've got some data for France if you want.

Stone's first volume did slightly more than 30k compared to Neverland's first volume which did between 50k and 100k in the same time frame (2018 or 9 months). And Neverland with its first 5 volumes managed to be the 11th best selling manga with 250k volumes sold for the year. Stone only had 3 volumes published in 2018.
Edit: We know Neverland #1 did "over 100k" in a year (so with the first four months of 2019, during which the anime aired). So it would make sense to assume that Neverland #1 did around twice as much as Stone #1 in 2018

To compare, Dragon Ball Super #1 did 90k, Boruto #1 did 70k, Attack on Titan #1 did 35k, AssClass #1 did 8k, One Punch Man #1 did 150k (440k for the series in its launch year) and HeroAca #1 did 60k (240k for the series). All in their first publication year. Black Clover #1 did just under 20k, but it only had 4 months of sales, and manga sales in France (maybe in the west in general ?) aren't front-loaded at all.
AoT, AssClass, Stone and Neverland all did this without an anime. MHA and Boruto got one at the same time as their first volume (1 month later for Boruto). DBS was currently airing and OPM season 1 had just ended.

Keep in mind that the first volume of a manga sells way more than the others.
One Piece is the best-selling manga in sales per volume, with 80k in a year for the new releases (which means it almost did 1M in backlog sales in 2018 when in Japan it did 1.4M, crazy stuff), then come DBS and MHA with around 70k per new volume.

So, with 5 new volumes in 2019 and an anime, Dr. Stone should reach the top 20 (the threshold is usually around 100k)

As for Black Clover:
Black Clover #1 came out in september 2016 and did under 20k in 4 months. In 2017, 6 volumes were released and the manga sold a combined 170k (14th best-selling manga, 1.1% market share). In 2018, 6 volumes were also released and the manga sold a combined 250k volumes (12th best-selling manga, 1.5% market share)

4chan is the least you should take serious. JJK bombs outside 4tard, twitter is an more reliable source

Who knows? Kimetsu no Yaiba was also relatively unknown before the anime and now it could go toe to toe with MHA in terms of western popularity. Time will tell how it endures, but still.
