It took me 45 minutes- one hour to read through the weekly line up (14 series), more if Boruto/Spy/DB Super are in the line up.So roughly ~15 chapters per hour.

If i have time to read even 1 series in the Viz Vault per year I consider the subs worth (1.99 * 12 = 23.88$, the price of 4 volumes). Don't even have that luxury anymore :emocat

Yes. No wonder too. Basically just saying "Just binge it on a weekend, lol" doesn't sit right with people, rightfully so. No one claimed that One Piece is impossible to read from start to finish, but that doesn't mean people don't have legitimate concerns about the length. Some people only have the free time in a day to read a few manga chapters a day, really read them and not just browsing through.
I didn't say "just binge it on a weekend", nor did I say "lol". That's you inserting your own words and perceptions. I said, as an example on the extreme side, that it's technically possible to binge it within a weekend. I wanted it to seem at least a little bit more approachable scale of a goal. Two days as opposed to NINE HUNDRED ERMAGERHD CHAPTERS That's it man.

Yeah at that (already pretty fast) rate it'd take ~48 hours to finish One Piece non-stop without any breaks lol. So just to clarify, I am not endorsing the 48-hour One Piece marathon lol. Although I'm sure some crazy people marathon the anime non-stop :imslow

Your verbatim response was "It takes literally one weekend of binging. You have no excuses. "

That lends itself more to Serinox's perception than what you've just elaborated. If you had initially said "it can technically be binged over a weekend, and if you spread it out with a healthier reading pace over several weekends it's still unlikely to take much longer than a month" I doubt the discussion over this would have spanned several pages.

Actually, 959 chapters divided by 15 chapters an hour would be almost exactly 64 hours. So they'd need a 3 day weekend, and would get about 8 hours of sleep total. lol.

Guys, the current discussion about how long it takes to read One Piece is starting to become off-topic. If you wish to continue this discussion, please do so in the One Piece section.

Further discussion of this subject after this post will be subject to moderation.

That's not how it works. If that were the case, I should be able to read everything, since nobody is licensing manga in my region.

Plus even Neolation and Hell Warden Higuma are hidden, and I'm fairly sure they aren't available anywhere outside Japan...
For Weekly Shonen Jump, every single series is hidden. Also, we're not counting here series that already started with a chapter gap.

As of now, this has worked this way for whole Europe. I don't know if Viz licenaing the series automatically affects whole America, or if they use some other method there.

Also, maybe the main reason is not region, but languages in which series is available to buy.

Ok guys. With 2010s decade almost over, what would be your favorite top-5 titles from this decade?

For me, in no order: My Hero Academia, Black Clover, Act-age, Kimetsu no Yaiba, Assassination Classroom
We Never Learn, Act-Age, Black Clover, Saiki Kusuo, World Trigger

I think Viz has their Shonen Jump Vault if you wanna read official translations of cancelled Jump series in full, but yeah... if that isn't available to you you're SOL unless you're willing to sail the high seas.
Only for English-speaking countries...

That's what I meant by region. I live in a Dutch-speaking area, and nobody is translating manga in Dutch.

If they're going purely by country (instead of licensing region), I guess they could hide the series that have been licensed in France, since there's a French-speaking part of the country as well... Does Canada lose access when something is translated in French because of Quebec?

Also, that means that Dutchmen should be able to read everything forever. Any of them here to confirm?

Each country has probably a default language that M+ uses for this, even if it's not the first language used in the country itself. As far as I know, English, Spanish, French and German are some of those who are affected by this. And since you can read stuff on Poland, maybe Polish is also part of it.

That depends on the person. There's probably a lot of people who read One Piece without really knowing anything about Jump, then there's people who know about Jump yet don't or haven't read the manga. Though, I feel as if One Piece has become so crucial to Weekly Shonen Jump over it's run that it's kind of impossible to know about the magazine as a whole without at least having some knowledge about that particular manga.
I don't think it's necessary to read the whole series (or even 10%), but I do think it's weird that there are people here who haven't tried a single chapter.

I mean, every time a new series starts in WSJ, almost everyone around here will at least check it out once, to see if it's any good. But they won't check out the most famous one? Seems kind of backwards...

For me that'd be :

1. HQ
2. AssClass
3. CSM
4. MHA
5. World Trigger (now in SQ but ran in WSJ from 2013-2018 so counting it in there)

CSM definitely had the most unique MC of this decade.
Aside from that, I'd say HQ, MHA and Saiki. Don't really have a 5th.

Yaiba in general isn’t a major Top 50 threat anymore, it seems. But I am curious as to how much this latest volume sold this week.

Have Dr. Stone’s sales actually increased? And if so, by how much? All of the volumes are there doing alright, but still. At least the show seems to be doing well internationally.

HeroAca backlogs are slowly creeping up, which is nice. Road to late December has begun, huh? Feels like the whole franchise is building up to that.

Fuck, man. Spy x Family is really outselling Black Clover per volume now. If it got an anime it would probably complete with the 500k+ sellers now.

When I began thinking about it I thought where would I put Black clover, I really like the past arc and recent developments, but not as much as the series above.

Eyeshield 21 getting a reprint is great news for me, the series definitely deserved more love than it got. If we would have done a top 5 series that started last decade, it would be there for me.

Unless WSJ gets half a magazine worth of new hits in the next year Black Clover's at no risk for a long time. Sure it's not a top frontrunner but it's solidly at the top of the middle of the magazine (after OP, MHA, Kimetsu, Neverland and Haikyuu). Of the lower series Jujutsu will probably solidly overtake once it gets an anime but the others are a lot more doubtful, and we're also likely to lose 3 of the 5 series above it in the next year.

Plus once Haikyuu ends it'll be the 3rd longest series in the magazine (not counting HxH), so it'll have that prestige too. It'll probably start to drop off at some point but there's not exactly tons of hopeful new series poised to overtake it.

Black Clover will be around for at least half of the 2020s, guaranteed (as long as Tabata doesn't choose to end it early).

I think people are probably associating it with stuff like Nura and Beel, mid-mag series that were hits at first but gradually dropped off and ended earlier than they could've went, but they started to fail around the mid 100s from what I remember, while Black Clover's already well past ch 200 and still going strong.
