Personally, I feel as if there’s a lot Horikoshi wants to do but just doesn’t, whether that would be due to a lack of knowledge, experience or just time. He may very well have bitten off more than he can chew with HeroAca.

For example, characters: HeroAca is primarily set in a school. So that’ll have a lot of characters right off the bat, but then you have Pro Heroes, villain factions, civilians, sidekicks. And even within the school, you have two whole Hero classes, a support course, a general studies course, and The Big Three. It doesn’t help that Horikoshi’s actually really good with character designs, so naturally people would want to learn more about them. But Horikoshi doesn’t have the luxury of putting a lot of school antics in order to explore the school well cause this is a battle shonen, and people are here for high-stakes fights - the school arcs tend to be the more divisive ones in the fandom. Deku’s meant to become the greatest hero as well, so we have to focus on him the most. Horikoshi’s also drawing parallels between him and Shigaraki, as he’s on a journey to become the greatest villain and as such is a sort of protagonist in his own right. So he obviously needs some focus, along with his gang as well. All of this, and there’s only so much you can draw in one week (Horikoshi does less pages per chapter than usual, too) and you can only linger on an arc for so long. All of this has the unfortunate effect of MHA not really managing to develop many of the characters that it introduces, and the even more unfortunate effect of its female characters generally just barely getting any spotlight. It’s something I do hope the series finds a way to fix, somehow.

Other currently running shonen (Black Clover, The Promised Neverland, Chainsaw Man, Kimetsu no Yaiba) have a more focused cast of characters, which makes them easier to develop more. This might honestly be the preferred method for writing characters. Not every manga is One Piece.
Ironic that he wanted his characters to shine in joint training arc, but didnt work out. Well.. the anime is gonna do justice for it, so it's just a temporary damage on the franchise

I’ve heard this sentiment a few times and that honestly makes me want to read SHY, even if I feel it’s a bit unfair due to how long they’ve been running.

I really like a lot of the color pages here. Can’t wait for that new Mato Seihei chapter, curious to see what it’s about.

Also, wow. Beast Children isn’t ending. None of the flopping series are ending. It feels kinda weird knowing the last axe was Saiyuki. This might change within the next two issues, though.
As is the practice for this whole decade besides Shonen Shikku-Metallica Metalluca rotation, same batch newbies that also ended in the same round, ended in the same order they started. So per that it would be Taisei-Beast-Tokyo Shinobi Squad.

So I am more curious about Taisei rather than BC right now.

Well, we'll just have to see at the end of year now, won't we? :mono

If Kimetsu does overtake OP this year, expect the series to stay within top 3 until the end of its run.

Bolded: wait until they proceed to butcher the hype just like they did with S8....:derp
Lel one piece is the king. Do people really believe of having more than a decade being #1, suddenly kimetsu gonna overtake it. LOOOOOL
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Act-age : 1-8 : 1 800 000.
Beast Children 7 "arc" end in 49th issue. From 50th issue new developpement.

Waaht.. really? And Saiyuki, ne0, higuma doesnt even get a chance for that. Seems jump is desperate now for an new sport manga, (obviously since haikyuu!! Cursed EVERY new sport manga to flop)

Authors have free time, because they had been technically fired.

So, they may need to focus on other things.

I don't know how much they will earn by adding chapters and making a more complete story, but maybe it is not enough for the work.
I think they are still under obligations to finish the last volume. Epilogue could happened when author need to fill the page count of final volume. Or maybe the mangaka just can't let their manga bite the dust without closure.

Personally I don’t like calling any of the weekly Shonen Jump authors “Lazy”, due to the amount of work effort it takes to maintain a weekly series and survive in the magazine to begin with.
I think he has faults as a creator, as well as strengths just like every creator in the magazine
His writing is lazy, I'm not referring to any other part of his workload (although he rarely does covers or color pages).

I wonder if they would be allowed to continue the series on their own accord if they wanted to.

Not unless the series gets bought out by the mangaka, usually with the help of another publisher.
Only cases I can think of are Hokuto no Ken, Saint Seiya, and Shaman King.

I think Tabata knows how to handle the big cast of characters on Black Clover quite better than Horikoshi on BNHA, almost 250 chapters and i still feel like most of the Class A barely had any shining moment in the series, Tokoyami is by far one of coolest characters but when was the last time he was part of a important arc? i can't even remember, Tsuyu is such a popular character between fans and she also barely do anything important and the list goes on, majority only do something on training arcs while Todoroki and Bakugou are in the front every time, Horikoshi could do a lot better about putting the spot in other characters too.

I agree that Tabata handles the cast better than Horikoshi, but I don't think the comparison is fair, I don't think most of Class A are to be important characters, they are just secondary characters, almost extras, they are just classmates of Deku, while the Black Bulls are part of Asta's group. I often see people complaining about Class A's lack of prominence but I think they'll never be important characters, they just exist to be classmates

As I suspected. Per MangaPlus IDs for Arata Primal, it seems to be potentially ending next week. Only 2 new IDs, 1 filled today. Usually it is from 3-5 since it is a weekly series.

@RafGL probably knows more than I do.

There's nothing to buy out. Author owns the work, not the publisher.

Why you think Horikoshi writing is lazy?

If that were fully the case it wouldn't have been such a debacle the few times its happened.

This specific discussion about Horikoshi is better suited for threads/sections dedicated to MHA.

Let's course correct, please.

Isn't that unlikely ? Volume 95 is scheduled for December 28th, so there should easily be 3 more volumes released between January and November
The thing is, though, OP is getting into a quite delicate territory. With Oda getting frequent breaks (his last break was on issue 46 and he is getting another one on issue 50), OP has less chapters in its backlog to be compiled into volumes. By the time volume 95 gets realeased, OP will be left with 3 chapters in the backlog (assuming Oda will get another break in this period and we get the usual double issue in December). That means it would need another 2 whole months without a break to get the amount of chapters that are needed to be compiled in a volume but that is unlikely given Oda's breaks. If we assume Oda gets another two breaks in that meantime, the necessary amount of chapters for a tankoubon will only be achieved in the middle of March, meaning volume 96 will probably be released only in late April/beginning of May, which in return will leave the backlog with another unhealthy amount of chapters. OP releasing 3 volumes within a calendar year is becoming harder.

It's not?

There's nothing stopping authors from taking their series somewhere else.

I can understand why you would think One piece can't be dethroned, it's my favourite running manga so I have a hard time believing it myself, but the fact is that Kimetsu just had a week of over 700K while OP had a week of 70K, Kimetsu looks to be keeping this momentum in this week, and in the week when both volumes came out, one piece had an edge of 300K.
It looks like in the upcoming month, if this sales speed keeps up, Kimetsu can add ~2.5M copies to it's sales and surpass One piece by quite a wide margin(close to a million).

Where did you get that? Bakuman?
In most all cases in the publishing industry in the real world, artists don't get full rights to their work except in special situations. It keeps the artist from fucking over the publishers like that which clearly has not happened very often within Shueshia thus supporting the idea that they at least partially own the series they publish.

How weird. The series feels like it could be approaching the end, but one chapter is very little to wrap up all the loose ends.

Oda takes a break every four weeks, so that's 39 chapters a year. If they throw in some extras, four volumes should be feasible (just).

Articles and interviews from mangaka and publishers that tries to educate creators on what rights they do have.

Except it's exactly how it works in the Japanese publishing world. Publishers are licensed out distribution of specific chapters and volumes from the creator, but not the IP. Primary ownership always resides with the creator.

Doesn't Shueshia pay their mangaka a yearly salary even when they have no series running? Because that could also be a reason to stay.
