Nah, Beelzebub may also have been a gag-action but it was the Otokojuku type rather than the Gintama type, where it was primarily an action manga but used a lot of gags in the fights and on the side as a way of keeping the action fun.

Kamio Yui might be delinquents but so far it's more a 'gag manga with occasional fights' kind of series than 'battle manga with lots of gags'. It's still really early though so plenty could change.

gives to compares kamio yui with beelzebub, with gintama I find it somewhat problematic, because gintama has always been away with the jokes he did, just like chainsaw man did in the current chapter.

I'm curious about futari no taisei and tokyo shinobi squad.

LOL. How did all those grandpas at Shueisha allow Chainsawman's recent chapter?
People in the editorial have like 40 years at best. lmao
And in Shueisha there was much worse things than that. Like, only looking at Gantz you already could see that. haha

My bad. I meant SJ but I'm still surprised the editors let this go through. Sure there's been gruesome stuff before but this is sort of different. I wouldn't be surprised if the magazine gets a few phone calls from the parents lol.

Considering that the most recent survey guides have shown that kids are very much in the minority readership for Jump, I don't think that would really matter all that much.

Also, guys, let us not forget, Beastars and Magical Girl Site both run in a Shonen mag. If Champion can get away with such stuff, so can Jump.

If they're not getting calls for ghost tits, they won't be getting calls for this.

They did... twice.
By twice i mean not two phone calls, multiple calls happen twice. 1st year anni and one time Yuragi got a lead colour page.

Edit: Haven't read the ChainSaw chapter yet, probably some gruesome stuff? How gruesome can it be, the magazine had its fair share of gruesome series.

I finally read the latest Chainsaw Man chapter and it was absolutely glorious. :beer

I also caught up with Kamio Yui and I really love it, now it's much clearer to me what direction the series wants to take. It's focusing more on the comedic aspects and it takes advantage of its setting, the main characters being rich allows for some really crazy wacky scenarios to happen.
I love it when the color inversion happens and Yui transforms, it's a fun visual idea that I enjoy seeing every time. The character designs continue to be great and there's a lot of cool fashion sprinkled in with a constant change of outfits happening. The art is very charming and the wacky expressions do a great job to enhance the comedy and character interactions. This has an interesting twist to the typical romcom format because rather than having multiple girls as the main love interests we have one girl with two sides and both of them are turning out to be great. There are other girls that might be potential love interests, but for now they are excellent side characters, that's for sure. Kiito ended up being a surprisingly likable main character, he's a nice guy and we really get to see his quirky nature shine as we learn more about him. I'd like it if this manga did well, it has a lot of heart put into it and the whole idea behind it works really well.
Yeah, it did remind me of Gintama, but it's still much tamer than it. I think this fits nicely into the current WSJ lineup, now all it has to do is survive I guess. It also fits into the popular genre of never ending slice of life comedic school series with some kind of romantic elements attached to it, and in this case the romance isn't really the main focus for now. It helps that the series is made by a really experienced author, it's really well drawn and he throws in a lot of cool visuals that you wouldn't typically see in this kind of a series. Plus it has a lot of action in it so it appeals to that crowd from the magazine as well. Oh and it has some really nice fanservice also, so this manga definitely has a lot of things going on.

Edit: Some typos
It looks more a Beelzebub than a Gintama.
Kamui is like a worse version of Rokudou no Onna-tachi.

While they do have similarities, I consider their appeal to be very different.

This sort of weird "shock value" is what the author is using to get attention? I havent read Chainsaw man but this turns me off from the series.

Regarding the point of Yui Kamio...I'm really not sure myself, honestly. I'm not exactly a fan of the series myself, I find the art average at best, the comedy way too reliant on the central gimmick, and I think it's too slow still (it really feels like, at this point, the manga has none nothing of noteworthy ambition), but I won't really say it's dead on arrival....maybe.

Thing is, though, I'm really not sure if series like Gintama, Sket Dance or Beelzebub can really exist in current Jump. It's become a rapidly more fast paced environment, and the sort of calmer set-up those series need to grow just doesn't exist. And Yui...doesn't feel like something with the necessary speed, TBH.

Was a bit disappointed when I saw the big “shock” everyone was talking about in the new Chainsaw Man.
It was gross, but nothing SO bad that I’m question how it made it in the magazine.

I’m more shocked about the girl approaching Denji
to have sex at the end of the chapter. But even then, obviously they won’t actually do it

I don't think the pace matters that much for it since it's a fairly random comedy series. Whether or not a manga of this style still belongs in Jump will be up to the Japanese readers I guess. I think this series would appeal much more to the romcom loving crowd though, so if it manages to grab the attention of that readerbase it has decent survival chances. The fact that there are 4 new series starting will either come to its advantage or disadvantage and Saiyuki is also thrown in the mix to make things even more unpredictable. If the volumes don't sell much then it will definitely be in trouble.

I don't disagree there. Granted, part of the problem is that we don't have a lot of background regarding what works outside of battle manga (both physical and mental kinds) for this era. For romance, we have just Yuuna and We Never Learn, and sport and comedy have basically nothing.

Yeah. And I think series like Yuna are pretty much the only ones in which they get some problem. Which makes me wonder if To Love Ru had something similar at it's time. lol

This is basically in the story of WSJ after all considering that one of the first ecchi manga which was by Nagai had such backlash and was cancelled in the 70s.

Yeah, it was disgusting but nothing more than it. What you said is much more than it.

I mean, the controversy with Yuuna was because of the accusation of the manga normalizing sexual harassment, a big topic in Japanese feminism, not because the content being inappropriate. You might not have heard about this, but there was a pretty significant fan backlash in Japan over the recent bathhouse scene in One Piece, and how Oda continues to write Sanji, who's intended as a cool hero, as a guy who'd do such a thing.

Also, to give an alternative perspective on the Harenchi Gakuen situation, it was back when Jump was considered a kids magazine, and it was causing a pandemic of elementary school-age boys flipping girls skirts, so, not to advocate for censorship or anything, I think the PTA was justified in that case.

It has nothing to do with shock value. That's just the sense of humor the author has. It's a good series, and part of that is seeing the MC put in increasingly odd situations.
