Double taisei art is mediocre ?
At least you can you derstand what happens un the chapter, unlike samurai 8.

Well, yeah, but it's still pretty weak.

Worth noting of course that mediocre art is something that can be dealt with as long as the story is good. Look at the early chapters of Act-Age for example.

Yui Kamio had the best chapter of the newbies again this week. Saiyuki feels like it could be heading towards the end of the series, which while it will be sad, I feel like the author needs to get a better grip on how to pace a series for a weekly serialization. The artwork is fantastic, so I hope they'll be back with something soon or maybe team up with a writer. Despite my praise for Yui Kamio, that feels like it could be ending soon as well.

Beast Children officially dropped. TSS will most likely be dropped next week. Although I said I was dropping Shogi last week, when I heard the creepy bondage dude was in it this week, I was curious and checked it out; wasn't impressed with what I saw. Overall, this round has been a pretty big bummer for me. The biggest bummer is that Saiyuki and Yui Kamio will probably get axed before these 3. Hopefully Yui Kamio can squeak by until at least a better comedy comes around

Overall this has been kind of an underwhelming batch. Hopefully next one in a few weeks will be better.

Jump should just give us U19 2.
Even if it was a trainwreck, it was an entertaining one to read, something that a lot of this new series aren´t at the slightest.

Nah.

Much prefer something genuinely good over a punchline.

TSS....eh. I think supercow explained the Chapter 2 well. Great art (and an action Matrix like bit), but this chapter was just another showcase of how our bishonen MC is so edgy, cool, badass and OP. Meh. Move the story along or die by getting axed. The manga is called Tokyo Shinobi Squad, introduce the members instead of pushing a random filler for no reason.

I will admit that Samurai 8 became *slightly* more interesting for me, but it is still very weak, especially for a story from a veteran mangaka. Hey, at least it is better than some other questionable newbies, so there is that. *sob*.
Thanks for name-dropping me lol, makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. :verily

I think we should normalize the first volume test. All the chapters that comprise Vol 1 should be judged and, if they aren't up to standard, we can call the series axe fodder.

Also, I think I might have to revise my guess on WNL somewhat. We're now at Christmas, and starting Rizu's arc. I wouldn't be surprised if it were done by the end of this year.

Curious to see what will be the romance manga which takes stage after WNL will be. Fingers crossed its something relatively unique and engaging, I feel "traditional" Jump romance has been pushed to its apex by WNL.

It's probably going to end in the beginning of 2020. Senpai is totally on the cover of volume 13, Rizu in volume 14, Uruka in volume 15 and then all of them on 16 or 17, ending the series. It depends if more arcs will come and the size of a last arc.

Yeah, that is more or less my prediction.

BTW, looking it over, I think the issue with Samurai 8 is in part the lack of proper editing. Kishi's so well-known that no one is really going to try questioning him, and I feel that's causing the issue that no one is willing to tell him what he's doing wrong.

I am starting to get sick of people making that argument. Guys, it's nearly the end of Volume 1. If Samurai 8 doesn't pick up very, very soon, it's gonna be sinking.

Because why makes games for rising new stars when you can instead redo the Saiyan Saga for the 40th time >>

I guess that's the weird thing about Dragon Ball. It is arguably the most important title in Jump history, but it's scaling is not actually comparable to modern series in any way due to how it was written. Dragon Ball's cast is comparatively really small to later series, its arcs are very self-contained and a number of the relatively small number of "iconic" characters are constrained to certain storylines.

This leads to this weird effect where so much of the merch is only half drawing on the actual source for information. It's instead drawing from other material, movies, sequels, other video games, and it's consequently made Dragon Ball less a manga, and more this strangely incestuous meta-franchise of various different routes, all kinda converging together without logic.

Really, to me, it just makes the franchise kind of a chore.

Seems about normal. That said, it's kinda pathetic that Yuuna is selling less than a gag spinoff now.
