Hmm...threads gone quiet...

Leeme pose a question, do you guys really think Jump is "missing" something? I don't, but I'm curious about everyone else.

Not exactly something "missing", but I would like to see another unorthodox battle series like Yu-Gi-Oh!

Hard agree. What in particular do you want from such a series that would set it apart from, say, Shokugeki? And what do you think readers of Jump in general would want to see?

Not surprised, no Jump news and Weekly Shonen Sunday had some big news instead (axing 4 series recently, 3 new series with 1 big mangaka (for the magazine) returning and 2 big tease announcements for their veterans)..

Maybe a mystery manga in a way of Enigma?

Funny thing, but MangaPlus just changed the names of the main characters on Spy x Family.

Per the reddit post 2 days before the today's translation, Tatsuya Endo was unsatisfied with the English translation of the names, so they changed to Loid and Yor (formerly Lloyd and Yoru).

I prefer viz's choices tbh. Non english-speakers choosing the english localised names is series can result in some weirdness sometimes, and changing a name that fits well and exists (Lloyd) into an awkward literalisation of the kana is one of those things.

It's like when a LN writer insists on the english version using the translation he made with google translate despite it not making any sense grammatically.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about that. I get the author's wishes, but the older names were more fitting.

Yor is fine. I love Hunter from the Future, after all. Loid is just... that might be the author’s intent, but it’s better and more readable as Lloyd. Localisation is important for a reason

Seems that Tatsuya Endo also proposed a name change for Anya to Ania, but that one was left to be decided by the translators.

What I find the weirdest is that the raws for chapter 2 on Jump + clearly have Yor for the name so it's clearly how the author intended the name to be, I wonder why the translators changed the naming 🤷🏽‍♂️

I can see that one being one they’d be less keen to alter. Loid still sounds like Lloyd, even if it looks worse, but Anya to Ania would sound different to a reader. Ann-yah vs Ah-nye-ah or such.

if you mean from the start the series was licensed at chapter 1 so they would have made that decision before chapter 2 was out in Japan.

I feel like it'll be

-OP in the centre (of course)
- then MHA, HQ, Kimetsu, and Neverland all about equal as the other face series. Haikyuu's dropped a lot since it's peak but I don't know if they'd take away its pillar series status when there's a good chance its two potential replacements will end before it.

It would look odd later to have it suddenly back in the big 3 after they end if nothing else gets big enough by then.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

- Middle will probably be Black Clover, Dr Stone and WNL as the most prominent
- Jujutsu Kaisen, Act-age, Chainsawman, Yuuna, Samurai 8 behind those as secondary middle
- and of course the floppy five hiding in the back corners
