Between this, and the new about the guy who spent 5000€ in making Bakugou the winner of last poll, I have the sensation MHA is already consolidated as the big Jump shonen from this decade.
I've never heard that rumor. Is reliable source who said this?

I mean I don't think Bakugou needs that help to win the poll, since he seems pretty popular.

I don't know if this has been already posted but I find it interesting.

I found these pics around, its come from the fanbook "Dragon Quest: Character Book", that contains some homages done by some mangakas from Jump.

Sorachi and Kazue Kato in the top image and Miura and Tsutsui in the bottom one.

It also contains a drawing done by Hiro Mashima and it seems that it's marketing the DQ manga that it will be on V-Jump, but I´m not sure in that.
Still funny that mashima make a collab with v-jump, hes that big of a goat

@redon do you know if My Hero Academia novels were coming to Spain, or it was only the Vigilantes spinoffs? I recall something about MHA Smash too, but dunno.

Meanwhile, Todoroki was yesterday Trending Topic at global level because this.

I love that Todoroki Tina is being noticed now. She’s been running the schtick for a while and it’s been so damn amazing. Like her passion for the character’s real as heck

10 years, holy shit. I remember that Akaboshi and Ane Doki were the first new series I followed knowing what shounen jump and ToCs were. I think I read Bakuman a little before it? But yeah, it has been a very long time.

I don't know how to answer that, I started reading Naruto and Bleach in 2009 and 2010 respectively, but I still wasn't aware that they were Jump sleeves; I would say that the 1st manga I read of the Jump already knowing the magazine was Ansatsu Kyoushitsu in 2012.

I started reading Naruto (yes, i read the manga first and started the anime after) in 2007 (didn't even had internet) when a friend lent me a cd with a Game Boy emulator and some roms but there was all the Naruto volumes released until that moment in the cd too, i ended up copying everything in my pc without knowing it, and when i saw i thought "ehh lets see how it is" and it was mind blowing, i read everything in just 1 day, obviously some of the chapters came with a Shonen Jump cover so i got curious about the characters that i saw and started going to the lan house to download the weekly chapters of Naruto and the volumes/episodes of other SJ series, with Bleach and Reborn i watched the anime first and One Piece i read the manga first, the toc and stuff i started to follow in 2011 when i got internet in home.

I started reading Jump stuff weekly around late 2006, a couple of issues before Ral Grad started, I think? Must have been, as Zan and Over Time weren’t cancelled yet.

That’s... boy howdy that’s too long

The first manga from WSJ I ever read was Naruto back then I started reading it by getting the volumes in the library. Then I discovered Onemanga and one things leading to another, I discovered Bleach then One Piece. That was all between 2007-2008. I started following the TOC and the Edited Manga scene around 2010-11 when I discovered Batoto, got into translating manga in 2012 and stopped in 2016 when I went to live in Japan.
For some reason Naruto being the first WSJ series I've ever read still has to this day a special place in my heart.
Also it's kinda scary that I've been following One Piece for so long and I'm gonna keep on following the series for a while more.

It's hard to say how long exactly, I've definitely been following manga for over 10 years since I remember reading Hellsing during my first high school exams at 13-14, but I don't think I followed Naruto and Bleach (never mind any other wsj stuff) until a few years later.

I did get viz Jump for World Trigger though and I'd been following wsj for a couple years already so maybe it has been 10 years.

Kinda crazy the number of one shots Jump+ released just for Chainsawman volume 3 for promotion. They've literally released everything Fujimoto has done so far

Also Jump+ released the first chapter of Chainsawman but this time with added commentary from the editor (Rin Shihei) and as usual a short interview by Fujimoto

Q: What message would you give to the readers as an editor?
A: For Fire Punch, my advice was to read the series in one go but for Chainsawman it'd be to keep up with the series if you can. This work is built to be entertaining, and leave the readers feeling "What's gonna happen next?!" continuously until the next week. That's the basis as to what makes a weekly series interesting. Life is just more fun when you've got something to look forward to! "Chainsawman" could be one of the many fun things in a gloomy Monday(lol).

Q: What did you realize by getting a series in WSJ?
A: At first a big wig at the editing department told me "Just draw whatever you want!". I took him to his word and never had to change anything. I'm able to draw freely.

Q: How did the series came to be?
A: At first, Fire Punch had a setting in which the main character was burning and all the people to which the fire moved to would also end up burning to death. But through that the story ends up being on a really narrow scale. Even if he makes a lover he can't hold hands with them. So my first thought this time was to have a main character and a story that could move freely. That's were I got the idea to make Denji a cheerful character now matter how dark the developments get.

Q: Please give a message to the readers
A: There's gonna be some pretty shocking developments.

Lmao that guy is a genius, in it's own way.

Interesting how Fujimoto felt Agni's infliction was a limitation on Fire Punch's narrative, and how Denji's demeanor was to give more free movement in the narrative. That's one of those fascinating insights I always appreciate hearing.

Hard to say when exactly I started following it, but I do remember following the magazine when I went to Japan in late 2013. Only watched my first anime early 2012 iirc. Pretty late start, but that’s still almost 6 years.

I bought an issue there and was only up to date on like 1/3 of the series, but quickly worked on catching up on AC, Soma, WT, Beelzebub. In those days most of the series translations were massively behind, so as up to date as I could be anyway. Was caught up on just about everything by the time Kimetsu started I believe, and then witnessed half of them end in 2016 lol.

I started reading WSJ weekly in early 2011 with Bleach. I watched anime before then, but catching up with the Bleach anime made me start the manga. Naturally, I just branched off from there, and eventually started following the magazine closely in 2012.

I'd say I discovered and have started reading Jump since 2006 and because Naruto, then discovering One Piece, Bleach, Death Note, HxH, D.Grayman, Gintama, and Reborn were also in the magazine.

I inmersed fully in Jump in 2009 though, when Bakuman To Love Ru, Toriko and Nurarihyon first, then Kuroko, Beelzebub and Medaka started serialization. At the same time I was learning about more titles like JoJo, Eyeshield21, or Hikaru no Go. 2012 was the final consolidation thanks to Nisekoi, AssClass, Shokugeki and Haikyuu. And in 2014 My Hero Academia was the first hit manga I started reading since the very first chapter in Jump.

My first Jump experience is "Mazinger Z", then Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya and Captain Tsubasa, then Kenshin and One Piece (and City Hunter in lesser degree), then Yu-gi-oh and HxH, then Kochikame, Bobobo and Shaman King, then the Internet era with Naruto, Death Note, Bleach (and later Prince of Tennis, Reborn, Gintama and D.Grayman) while discovering at the same time Fist of North Star, Slam Dunk and Yu Yu Hakusho (I had a previous first contact with Yu Yu Hakusho, Kinnikuman, and Dr. Slump though, but I didn't know catalan language)

PD: I'd say Saint Seiya has been the very first manga I've read. I remember reading Yu-gi-oh in 2002, when I knew One Piece from TV and I didn't know anything about the existence of Shonen Jump or Naruto.

Speaking of interviews, Manga+ put up the fourth editor interview (this time it's Dr Stone's editor).

--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

What segment of readership was “Dr. STONE” intended for?

Honda: From the start it’s not very clear, but the first three chapters are built around showing a world after the downfall of civilization, and subsequently finding a way to survive in that world. However, chapters two to four, which had a focus on creation of objects and crafting via science, became very popular with readers, and so it shifted to this new genre.
This part is interesting to me, as it implies there was maybe originally meant to be a much lower science focus with it just being a way to achieve the goals, rather than the core thing driving the series like it became. Perhaps a more typical post-apocalyptic thing like the initial Tsukasa stuff, heavier action focus and more tackling rogues.

I find it interesting to know that Taiju and Yuzuhara were both built around Senku.

I remember in the early days of the series that ppl were thinking Taiju was “suppose” to be the main character, but it shifted to Senku later. Or that Taiju and Yuzuhara were written out due to poor reception.

However, they were really just devices for introducing the world, since Senku himself would be too clever to be shocked by everything.
