Well I what I’m also asking is, do you think they would go with a Studio that goes that route this time
Keep in mind that normally the anime studio doesn't get to decide this for adaptations. Seasonal or all year should be a decision the production committee, so Shueisha among other people, makes.

Wasn't the speculated reason there's been no Black Clover or Boruto movies because they can't handle anything else right now? I guess they could always end one of those.

I mean, Pierrot has also done seasonal anime while doing Black Clover and Boruto (Tokyo Ghoul:re, Magmel) so its not impossible.

(Though I’m betting they’ve got some space opened up for Jujutsu Kaisen, honestly.)

Ok guys, have a little trivia-discussion for you, about a very important Jump manga that is in ways different to the usual action shonen.

What do you guys think about City Hunter? Or what do you know about it?

Just know the MC's design, and that Inoue was an assistant for the author.

I’m aware. That’s what I was referring to when I said “they”. Like, do you think they’ll want to go the route of long running. If they were going for long running they’d likely gear towards a studio that still does that sorta thing, like Pierrot.

I like 90% of the people here know nothing more than that it exists, it was a big hit, its premise and its protagonist.

I doubt they're doing Jujutsu. Nakano in an interview with ANN said that Black Clover was made constantly airing because its relatively lighter content was suited for younger audiences, while a darker series like TPN had to have a late-night time slot. Jujutsu is tonally very mature with complex battles, brutal violence and even some body horror, something would most likely necessitate it being in a later time slot.

Interview, for reference: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/in...-jump-editor-in-chief-hiroyuki-nakano/.143096

Just fun stuff that I discovered btw.

I'm sure a lot of you know Shuumatsu no Valkyrie/Record of Ragnarok, one of most popular manga from last 2 years. This manga is being serialized in Monthly Comic Zenon. I just saw what the roster of the magazine was and I was shocked. A lof ot Hokuto no Ken and City Hunter homages, Angel's Heart, Tetsuo Hara work, a lot of manly titles, etc (btw Arte is from this magazine too).

What has this to do with Jump? Yep, I saw Monthly Comic Zenon is owned by an enterpise called Coamix. And then I saw who are the owners of Coamix.

-Nobuhiko Horie (the CEO. Legendary Shonen Jump editor-in-chief, and the very responsible man of having both Fist of North Star and City Hunter serialized there).
-Tetsuo Hara (Fist of North Star author with Buronson)
-Tsukasa Hojo (City Hunter author)
-Akira Kamiya (both Kenshiro and Ryo seiyuu in the FoNS and City Hunter animes)

PD: The surprising thing for me is that Kurumada isn't there lol

I am still reading it (currently at vol.22, pls no spoil ^^") and I love the episodic narration. It's something we don't have anymore on WSJ and it could be interpreted as a part of the evolution of what the readers want. Obviously, some arcs are way better than the others (especially Saeko's arcs ;)), but it's always a good time reading them !

Also, at first I was kind of bothered sometimes by Ryo just talking about his mokkori constantly, but these kind of gags tend to disappear. Talking about gags, Hojo is really good at this : composition, running gags, accumulations and "meta-gags", he mixed them really well ! (I am reading Hokuto no Ken in parallel and it's fun to see some references in City Hunter. The fact that Hojo and Hara are close friends is one of the most surprising and wholesome thing I can think when talking about mangakas)

The art style ages very well, and I love how Hojo draw his female characters, especially the variety and coherence of hairstyles <3

I think that City Hunter is a staple if you are interested in mangas, at least to see how it has impacted on a generation.

If I remember correctly, I saw someone saying that the PVs promoving the first three volumes from a time ago (With Gojo talking) are animated by Bones. Apparently even the character design is the same as BNH (Not the one working in S4, the older ones). It's not like that they are confirmed already for Jujutsu anime, but this seems to be a trending with the ones who animate these PVs turning out to be the studio doing full fledge episodes.

Guess you don't know the tale of Weekly Comic Bunch, the anti-Jump magazine that was supposed to be the savior of the manga industry :hip

Never heard of that, actually. Care to share with the uninitiated?

Article I found with Jump's editors discussing the changes in readership and young people of today, specifically tying into TPN.

Anyone willing to give proper summarized points on the thing?

It aired on TV in Germany. Fun show with genuinely lovable characters but i think it could seem dated for today's standards.

In 2000, Nobuhiko Horie left Shueisha and together with financial investments from Hara, Hojo, and Shinchosha, founded Coamix, and worked towards the creation of Weekly Comic Bunch.

Their vision was essentially to create a magazine that's not defined by reader questionnaires. They weren't happy with Jump's policy of leaving the authors at the mercy of readers, and wanted to bring back the practice of older times (basically the days of FotNS, City Hunter) when mangaka and editor had a much closer partnership in the creative process.
On top of that, most of its authors were former (axed) mangaka from Jump, targeting the old Jump readers seeking nostalgia of the 70s and 80s. They even held interviews of popular old Jump mangaka such as Inoue, asking how it felt to see their first series get axed.

They guaranteed a minimum of 20K yen per page for all their serializations, which was a pretty high baseline, and took on the responsibility of providing assistants themselves. They tried recruiting new authors through their New Comer awards with a prize pool of 100 million yen (50M for 1st place), which was far beyond any other manga awards to this day. (1st place for Tezuka award is currently 2M)

Launching a manga magazine at this point in time was pretty much unheard of, let alone a weekly magazine, when the whole magazine business was in free fall and other magazines were closing down left and right.

Yet, they went on an launched Weekly Comic Bunch in 2011 with plenty of anticipation, hoping for their radical(?) approach to shake things up.
Their launch lineup consisted of:
  • Angel Heart - spinoff/sequel of City Hunter
  • First of Blue Sky - sequel to FotNS
  • Nemuri Kyoushiro - adaption of popular novel by Yanagawa Yoshihiro who had two axed series in Jump (Vice, Diamond)
  • ReplayJ - based off of Ken Grimwood's novel of the same name by Imaizumi Shinji (Sora no Canvas, Kami-sama wa Southpaw)
  • Restore Garage 241 - Tsugihara Ryuji (6 Jump axes)
  • Kabushikigaisha Taro-kun - sequel to Jump's Kenritsu Taro-kun by Koseki Kouji
  • Turkey Jumkie - Niwano Makoto (THE MOMOTAROH, Bomber Girl series)
  • Ruler of the Land - Japanese release of Korea's most popular manhwa, which ended up being the first one to get canned after less than 15 chaps.
Unfortunately, history wasn't too kind to the ambitious magazine. It's hard to even say they managed to stick to their original vision. While it started strong with 500K print in its first year, that number was halved by 2005, and in 2010 the magazine was put to rest at 140K print. (some say it was kept alive thanks to First of North Star's pachinko money).

Its remains were split into Monthly Comic Bunch and Monthly Comic Zenon,

Actually the JJK Wiki has the complete staff listed!

Fun fact: Yokohama is the same studio that animated...

It would be quite interesting if they were in charge of animating Jujutsu Kaisen giving a completely opposite contrast haha

Huh, this is honestly really interesting stuff.

Seems Horie, Hara and Hojo's disillusionment with Jump hasn't stopped. Just a few years ago Horie was openly complaining about editorial being too strict with handling of survey's still.

Today I read Yozakura, Mitama and Samurai 8.
Yozakura was definitely the best between them, it is very rare to have a reliable protagonist in the 4th chapter of the series, he looks cool now, but it was against a normal teacher this time, what he can do against professionals? We will see in it appears to be a new arc. Excited for that.
Mitama was a little better, made me smile when Mitama confused that terrible curry with a evil spirit. XD I will continue to read it for now.
Samurai 8 continues bland, didn't feel any emotion from wjhat was supposed to be a battle. Need to get better.

Woah, now I'm feeling dumb lol, didn't even know that all was listed.. Thanks! But that's a surprise, Yokohama is a pretty new studio, isn't? Gojo design in the PV looked on point.

Based on Yokohama previous project I'm just waiting for Jujutsu Tights become a real thing now.
