When does Oricon come out?

And imagine if this is a 200IQ marketing scheme for Kimetsu. They go "wait no Kimetsu won!!!" Later on.

Either way this is stupid. Are we to believe Shueisha people aren't aware of Oricon's existence?

And how is the sales number extrapolated from the partial selection of bookstores? I had mistakenly assumed Oricon numbers were not an extrapolation and we're not limited to only bookstores. Because I can attest that hella people buy tanks from combinis.
most likely this week,

sales from convenience stores are not counted by oricon

I mean, per Jump's own advertising, Yozakura got a CP based on popularity, which is indicative that someone is reading the manga if nothing else.

It's a good thing too, because, with Yui, Taisei, Beast and Shinobi all being axed, along with TPN, WNL and KNY all entering their endgames, Jump is, at max, going to be able to cancel just four new serializations this year. Accounting for things like the likelihood of Yuuna ending this year and the possibility of Yozakura and/or Mitama being canceled, and we could be looking at a year where Jump is able to cancel literally none of its new series this year. Let's...let's hope that doesn't happen, least we suffer an even worse example of the Taibei Squad.

Actually, I thought of a game. Since this year is done, and we still have yet to know what the 9 other new serializations will be by, name three cancelled authors and one established veteran you'd like to see return in 2020
lmaoo yoo you back !! how you doing xD. also talking about yozakura and mitama getting cancelled is useless, they just started

So even if the Oricon year end numbers come out aren't they just extrapolations anyway?

So KnY fans can go "muh lying corporation and jealous Oda" while OP fans can go "muh extrapolated year end sales"

I have a question, why does jump publish the weekly magazines ahead of the date they state on the cover?
So the magazine can sit on shelves longer without looking outdated.

Though Oricon has correctly extrapolated OP as the best selling of the year for the previous 12 years, right?

Curious what past discrepancies, if any, there have been between Shueisha's and Oricon's numbers, especially for OP.

Ignoring the whole OP vs KnY sales debate going on because at the end of the day the real winner is Shueisha....

Did anyone actually read the article? I found it pretty interesting, at the end they also mention that Shonen Jump may be entering a "New Golden Age" with hits such as Haikyu!!, My Hero Academia, The Promised Neverland, Black Clover, and other upcoming breakout series such as Jujutsu Kaisen, Act-Age, and Chainsaw Man.
in that way, every era is an ''golden age''. its becoming more of an norm than an special label

Oricon doesn't really extrapolate,

they report estimates based on the stores they track side note, the system is Point Of Sale (POS), they may or may not use multipliers but that is debated.

extrapolation imply they used that the data to calculate for total sales to be published , which they don't state ever.

Shoseki is the same way, right? Just a smaller sample size because it's not officially run.

correctly is a strong word, never will they be the same, most of the time oricon will be lower than circulation by ~30% (can vary by how distribution are done)

sell through data are only available to the publishers, which they rarely show, at best are circulation number (whether it be print, including digital, including worldwide, up to publishers)

less and not fully overlapping

So what do you make of Oricon's estimate for KnY (at least the numbers you guys have been compiling) being greater than Shueisha's numbers? Oricon really overestimated this time?

disregarding that article,

Oricon Kimetsu and circulation number Kimetsu is good, around the spot expected, especially considering stock shortage + race conditions still in affect

Oricon ~15M & Kimetsu 16M+

Shueisha is so desperate for OP to be on top that they have to cope with muh "digital sales". I didn't know Sharkbait was in charge of Shueisha's sales department.
This scenario is just furthur proof that people need to stop underestimating the effect of digital sales.

Outdated services need to catch up with tracking the digital marketplace.

I recalled a recent article in which One Piece editor 'begged' people who fallen out of One Piece to read Wano arc and talked about how great this new arc is which I disagree, but whatever. If KnY actually beated OP in sale, it would clash head on with that narrative of the editor.
There is undeniable trend slowly dwindling of One Piece sales year by year (despite still being the first for more than a decade). So maybe, maybe Shueisha want One Piece keep being on top with that announcement.
But all of those above is just my own baseless theory.
Anyway, I don't like the idea of One Piece keep dominating the manga world. To me, it symbolises the stagnant of Jump and the whole industry in general. I would never introduce something as gigantic as One Piece to a newcomer.
