Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Wow 100k for each of the first volumes is a lot. This week Kimetsu no Yaiba has sold 1.226.041 copies, graph update?

Btw, how is it possibile for KnY (#18) to sell more than 1M if the initial print was of 1M?

It's not exactly one million.

Is it just me or is MHA's new volume selling less than previous volumes?

MHA 23 - 424,426 (11 days)
MHA 24 - 406,721 (10 days)
MHA 25 - 406,342 (12 days)
So sales are basically flat... I don't think the movie and the anime will boost it anymore further. Probably if anything it will stabilize the sales

Maybe the reprints?

They did do a lot for the community and it is sad. But they could have avoided this outcome by acknowledging that the situation is different now, and changing with the times. They did not do that.

These consequences are not based off of the good things they did for the community in the past, they did not get cease and desisted for providing a scanslation of Naruto 8 years ago. They got cease and desisted for continuing to break the law after legal manga distribution has evolved. You can absolutely mourn the loss of a site that has helped the community grow, but it’s also worth noting that they could have kept doing that in different ways. They decided otherwise.
Sure. I'm not saying I support the direction they took. It's practically what most shitty twitter and youtube experts do. Get stuff out fast for most engagement on their account. Nothing new, just shitty current age trends.

I'm saying, some people here need to understand the good such sites have done to this community and for the growth of the industry outside Japan itself. No publisher in Japan is solely responsible for the mainstream attention manga has today worldwide. That falls equally on sites like MS.
It HAS to be acknowledged and respected.
Simple.

If it wasn't for them, none of the official publishers would have gotten their asses off to get started on publishing weekly digital manga. Plus, there is an added upside to having different groups translating, because it allows for more discussion and readers can compare to decide which translation better fits the context if something's off.

That said, what do you guys think of Jump getting out chapters as soon as they come out of the prints, (or as soon as the chapter is handed in) while releasing it out on the streets two days later? How financially viable do you guys think it is?

You can acknowledge and respect the past of something, while also shutting it down because it is bad for the industry in the present day.

In 2019 their scans were rushed and bad and low quality, and distracted from free, legal, well produced alternatives. They continued to do this while those alternatives were available for a year. Respect and acknowledgement for what they used to be and used to represent can only go so far.

What also has to be acknowledged and respected is that there are legal translations available on the same day as Japan now, we don't need WSJ fanscans any more except Yuuna. If people want an alternate translation sure, put one up, but show some respect for the creators and publishers and do it after the official scans like other nicer groups do.

They and other similar groups certainly helped the industry grow, and now that it's developing nicely they should respect the industry they're involved with and stop rushing leaked fanscans for quick clicks. They helped build it but now that it's grown MS early leak translations are actively hurting the industry, they are taking viewers and discussions away from a service that's completely free and up-to date.

They should've pulled back on the early leaks and started focusing on lesser known stuff, focus on some unknown favourites or another magazine without much legal online English presence like Sunday or Young Jump, keep helping to grow the industry rather than actively hurting the service we've finally gotten after wanting one for years and years.

I like your reply, but I don't agree with it.
The future is now, old man. Either you die a hero (rip groups like red hawk) or live long enough to become a despicable relic of past.
By choosing to stay the same, mangastream choose its own demise.
I could have respected them if I don't know the state of them today.
Good riddance, I guess.

So does this just mean that there’s only 12 episodes for Season 4, then? Cause that makes things pretty clean cut in terms of which seasons of the show people will recommend watching. Season 5 will likely cover the final arc of that show which is not... good.

Any reasons why shokugeki is getting a full adaptation? Was the anime very well received in Japan? I remember the 1st season being popular but just that.

Supposedly it's because the series is very popular overseas. I believe anime can break even just with licensing money nowadays, so if a series is popular enough in other major countries they don't need many Japanese viewers to keep it going.
