I mean, Dragon Quest is one of the most iconic and popular franchises in Japan. And the original manga sold over 40 million so not really surprising lol

No need to apologize, it's just that it's been like that since the original manga and anime so over 10 years. with a visual focusing more on a younger readership and audience. It's why Yugioh now is on V-Jump, for example.

This new one though, looks REALLY aimed at little kids. Like it has a Yokai Watch or Pokemon sun and moon look to it. Like it doesn't look like Yu Gi Oh!-GX-5D's at all. It's really jarring

A studio don't cut an anime, maybe except for Kyoani which leads all their production committee since 2010s. That ended because the 52 episodes were what was greelit and not more, which I don't know the ccompanies on the committee at the time but it wouldn't be the decision of the studio.

Also, we don't know if this is a remake or a sequel afaik.

Lol so this is a sequel to an unfinished 30 year old anime? This is a reboot, as every other anime of an old franchise has been.

You are in for a treat, it's definitely a manga on the level of One Piece, Naruto or Dragon Ball for me, the Dragon Quest name definitely helped but it's a title that definitely would have been a top seller without the title too.

Also you don't need any knowledge of Dragon Quest to enjoy this, I read the manga back when it was released here in Mexico like in 2005 iirc and I had never played a DQ game and totally enjoyed it.

I looked into the committee of the anime at the time and it was Toei (as in the parent company, not the studio) and TBS. Which while Toei was the leading, TBS is a TV Station so much more likely that it was their decision, even if they fund it less, since, well, the anime got out on their channel.
