Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Found this part most interesting:

"This year, Nakano says that Jump still doesn't have enough hits. Although he highlights Chainsaw Man and act-age as titles that he has high expectations for, he describes Jump's editorial department as "desperate to create the next hit." He concluded by saying that the magazine launched three new titles in January, but "it wouldn't be Jump if none of them became a huge hit." "

Both Yozakura and Mitama did under 10k, anyway. Even manga with weak initial sales like Kimetsu and Act-Age crossed that on volume 1.
Somhow I don' think any of the newcomers will break 10k in their first week with their first volume. Just doesn't feel like it.

"Throughout the history of the magazine, Jump has relied on reader surveys in order to gauge the success of its titles. Nakano said that this system of "valuing new blood" is what has allowed Jump to produce "cutting edge" manga for the times. He also highlighted the global success of One Piece as a positive factor in producing new hits for the magazine, because it gives newcomers a distinct goal to strive for."

Am I the only one getting the impression Nakano is throwing Kishimoto under the bus?

A little, I guess. Got it from this bit in the otaquest interview, too:

Hiroyuki Nakano: It’s definitely a position where I have to make a lot of decisions for the magazine. That being said, when I first became Editor-in-Chief I gained the belief that I have the least authority in regards to Jump. Of course, I have the final say in regards to the actual decision making, but the voice of our readers is so much louder than my own. No matter how much I want to continue publishing specific works, if it’s not popular it can’t continue serialization.

-- --

Though if they're planning on having Kubo back as well, they still clearly value veteran authors and the (possible) draw they bring.

It would amaze me to no end if Kubo's next work outperforms Kishi's.

And assuming it does, I'm pretty sure Jump won't promote his next work nearly as much as S8 received, so it'll be more impressive comparatively.

I'm getting ahead of myself, though. We don't even know for sure if he'll start a new serialization.

So, uh, it turns out that, due to the poor quality paper Jump is printed on, Guardian of the Witch is borderline unreadable in places.

Probably?

Still doesn't mean we're going to get more Super anime unless Toei drags Toriyama's lazy ass off his chair :derp
Not really a problem at this point. The manga is far enough that they could easily fill a year if they wanted to.

Also, speaking of old-timers, I have trouble believing these names are a coincidence.

I hope for a Akira Amano comeback. "Hitman Reborn" was a good supplementary read during the "Big 3" days and my peak "Battle Manga" fandom. Wasn't that big a fan of the "Hot" one-shot, but I love her character designs in Reborn/Psycho-Pass.

Uhh, from my experience reading some Japanese manga mags, poor printing paper doesn't explain swallowing entire panel contents like this. Sure this isn't a printing error?

Not really. WSJ has always been about getting newcomers.
Most successful mangaka in WSJ were newcomers at some point when they started out in the magazine.

You can actually barely make out some of the outlines in the blunder. Think poor printing and the paper quality itself together are the reason.

Having a lot of Shonen Jump in my place, this kind of thing is not due to the poor quality of the magazine. This might be a mistake.

So there’s apparently another MHA controversy over the birthdays of the characters now.
Not nearly as big as the Doctor’s name, but I’ve seen a few people complaining about it on social media. And been seeing ppl complain about Bakugo’s birthday for a couple years now(which I think is pretty stupid btw)

Meh, the article only links to one tweet and one video complaining about said tweet. Can't see this ending up being that big of a deal. Seems more like somebody having a bad take and then somebody else highlighting it for clicks.

And we’re back to the “controversies” that make no sense whatsoever. No wonder the fandom gets a bad rap... Welp, I can just ignore this one, as it’s not important.

People are just finding things to hate on, I guess it's the after effects from the Maruta incident.

Right, yeah, Bakugo's birthday is April 20th, he shares his birthday with Hitler. I think I heard complaints about that before. Nothing really to be done about that, I'm sure you could find a terrible person being born on every single day of the year by now.

Eh.
I'm all for speaking out if something is offensive or not but this is just another of this clickbait-y Unilad/Buzzfeed type of posts meant to drive up traffic towards that website.
Millions are born on every single day of the year in real life meaning millions of actual living people share birthdays with military generals from WW II and scores of other shitty people.
