These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Tbf you can say this for almost every series, the crew at Ufotable/Aniplex deserve alot of credit for putting together a talented seiyuu cast and a group of talented animators, but I think alot of people arent giving Gotouge enough credit for the source material, the anime ended several months ago yet the manga sales aren't slowing down
Yes but that only happened because the anime and specially the ep 19 that started the definitve boost and also the movie announcement came to solidify the phenomenon.

I get that can be annoying people putting everything on Ufo shoulders, but maybe people dont give the source material so much credit because Yaiba dont really have a story that seems worth of 2 million of copies and beating OP for many, the series was doing exactly the same as Black Clover pre anime, totally under the radar here, even in Japan, and suddenly after the anime it became this phenomeon that dethroned One Piece, something that not even AoT did despite being that global phenomenon at the time, so is just natural that people will give more credit to Ufotable since Gotouge alone wasn't enough to make much before.

Doesn't have a story "worthy" of beating OP?

How can you say that, exactly? What the hell makes a manga "worthy"?

At around 4:50 minutes, they start to explain how Inoue basically brought basketball into Japan thanks to Slam Dunk. Its cultural impact is really the stuff of legends. Well, Inoue is a GOAT for a reason ^^

Of course it doesn't have, i'm far from being a fanboy of One Piece but you can't really compare OP story and characters to Kimetsu no Yaiba, Gotouge is good in doing a solid and good battle shounen but that's it, Yaiba has probably the most "straight to the line" story on the current SJ, there's nothing going on in the story besides the "we hate Muzan!", there's no complexity, mystery or anything, is a very formulaic story about demon slayers killing demons and Muzan being the despicable big boss that everybody hates.

Still, is a very solid battle shounen with a charismatic group of characters, for me a 8.5/10

I do believe Demon Slayer deserves the success, but I also believe quite a few other series deserve this level of success also.

And I do agree that the anime played a huge part. Not the only part, but a very significant one.

Nice positioning for Mitama. Glad to see the editorial department hasn't written this off. Either Mitama is going to be given similar treatment to Spring Weapon for some reason or another, many readers respond favorably in the weekly polls, or hopefully there's a reprint around the corner for it/growth expected with the second volume. Regardless of the reason, I'm glad to see it not at the bottom, getting 2 chapters and a color page to boot.

It's nice to see Yozakura getting a reprint and color page as well. The story definitely has some areas that need to be improved, but overall, it isn't that bad. I'm hoping now that the author seems to have bought himself a bit more time that he's able to work out the quirks and get the story/characters on track.
Act-Age cover

The cover and color page are both beautiful. I still find myself getting amazed at how much such a young artist was able to improve in such a short amount of time. The growth in talent is awe-inspiring.

Oooo boi, this argument.

Look, lemme put it like this, One Piece's story and cast might be big, but you seem to mistake that for depth. Because, like Toriko, what One Piece has in scale it loses in terms of everything else, namely emotional connectivity and throughline. OP's cast have very little in the way of arcs or depths at this point, it's all large moving pieces.

I'm doing an essay elaborating on this so I won't go into too much depth (might share it here), but I think the simplest explanation for Kimetsu's rise is simply that people cannect to the characters. Tanjiro and his allies have a strong, fleshed and diverse set of personalities with backstories and emotional resonance that each make themselves easy to get attached . It's the same deal with MHA, BC, JJK and plenty of the other series which are popular today, they're all heavily slanted to the characters because that's what readers want.

Like, there is a pretty obvious reason why Jump's current readership make up the minority of One Piece's.

You just basically pointed out (correctly) that it's hard to say what makes a manga "worthy" of success, and now you're trying to connect your perceived problems with One Piece's story with its standing on Jump.
Like, I don't think that works, there's not a simple explanation for what is succesful and what's not. I don't even want to get in the specifics of the argument, because I disagree, but whatever, your point of view is fair. It's just that, you made the factor which makes something popular sound much simpler and more "objective' than what it really is.

I'm not trying to. I'm merely saying that, on a baseline, there is a pretty clear reason why people connect to fiction, at least in the 2010s.

The notion of "worthy to defeat op" is ridiculous and no wonder why I loath the op fandom so much.
Enjoy your declining sale :celebrate
If this was about me, i'm not a OP fanboy my friend, it can decline as much as it wants, i used as a example because is the biggest manga on Japan's history and the number one for over a decade, so beating it's nothing simple to do.

Nah, i'm not mistaking anything, Yaiba story is pretty much like i said, super straight to the line with nothing going on besides "we hate Muzan", the story have no complexity, good mysteries and etc, it's as simple as it gets: Tanjiro killing demons to reach Muzan and trying turning Nezuko back to human, nothing more, and even being so simple Gotouge still for some reason rushed things to reach Muzan when he/she could have developed much more things before going to the final arc.

Your question was "Yaiba doesn't have a story worth of beating OP?", and i'm answering about the story, no, it doesn't have and i'm not talking only about OP but many other series, also the characters are very charismatic and likeable but isn't like Gotouge is doing some writing masterpiece with them too, they can have distinct personalities and stuff, but all of them are pretty much the same "my family or someone important was killed by demons, damn Muzan, die!", all very straight to the line characters too, but charismatic

You guys love to do these adaptations comparisons, but this will never take away the fact Yaiba wouldn't probably achieve half of what is doing if it wasn't for Ufotable fantastic adaptation and that episode 19 that was the big turning point in sales and popularity, we can be here talking all day about how a anime doesnt need to have an "incredible quality" but the truth is that Yaiba was only able to achieve and reach this level of audience and popularity be on Japan or western because the amazing anime done by Ufotable, it would never do this with a average anime by Toei or Pierrot.
Except One Piece did it better... with a movie by Toei Animation?

A movie with movie quality for a series that were already a phenomenon since the beginning, very different context kkkk
